What can be done about one crooked tooth?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010
Q. I have a back tooth (the one that is next to my wisdom teeth that is crooked. I had the wisdom tooth(this was the tooth behind it) and the tooth in front of it removed because of decay so now that tooth has become crooked. Is there a way to straight that one tooth? I’m preparing to get a bridge placed there but that tooth must be straightened first. My dentist said that I could have it filed down or that I could go to the ortho and get braces. Would I need a full set of braces just for the one tooth?,
A. Usually a local solution to derotate your tooth is possible

A. Before doing any recountouring of the teeth to make them smaller, you will need to have them straighten. Firstly you need a consultation with an Orthodontist who will be able to give you all the different options available and let you know which is most suited for your teeth. What treatment is suitable for canines that are forward of other teeth?

Monday, February 22nd, 2010
Q. My bottom row of teeth is almost perfectly straight, but on the the top row the canines (I think) are further forward than my other teeth. Also, due to an accident when I was 11 (I am now 23) two of my teeth are chipped and one of the front ones has the bottom section missing and is capped. As such, I don’t know if it would be worth having my teeth straightened if you could still see the caps, or what my other options would be? Please advise? Much appreciated.,
A. Thanks for your questions, it is still possible to have your teeth straightened, despite the presence of the crown. You seem reluctant however to make the repaired teeth more visible, if this is because the restorations do not appear natural, then you may wish to have these replaced after the completion of any Orthodontic treatment. If you would like to discuss this further please do not hesitate to contact me again.Kindest regardsDr Kailesh Solanki

Will teeth move back if I get braces to fix teeth?

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010
Q. Hello Dr Kailesh Solanki, I had braces when I was 14, i am now 20 and as time has past my teeth have moved and look quite crooked. I was thinking about getting braces again but I worry if they may move again and the prices of braces at my age?,
A. Thanks for your questions, there are many teeth straightening options available today, each with their own benfits, from systems that can acheive results in as little as six weeks, to systems which are virtually invisible. As with all Orthodontic treatments, you should wear a retainer on the completion of the treatment to avoid rebound. This can be a removable or fixed retainer, but is essential. The costs for each system will vary between practices, but to give you an idea, out teeth straighening currently starts from £999.Kindest RegardsDr Kailesh Solanki

I am a dancer and want veneers do my teeth need to be straight?

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009
Q. Hello, As an exprofessional dancer my smile has bothered me for many years. I have had various treatments as a child to align my teeth and endless braces, but due to going abroad never finished my treatment. Now 40 and unable to look in the mirror without feeling low about my smile,I really do want do something about it. I would like to enquire about dental veneers but I am not sure if your teeth have to be straight to have this treatment. Would appreciate any information you can give me on what I could do to improve my smile and confidence. Many thanks.

A. In an ideal world an invisible brace would be used to realign your teeth followed by veneers.  However veneers can be used on crowded teeth although you need to be aware that the teeth need to be heavily trimmed and they may require the nerve removed.  I have done many cases as you can see from my website utilizing both techniques

Does age matter for correcting crooked teeth?

Thursday, December 10th, 2009
Q. I was given a brace (one that you take out at night) when i was younger, and due to the stigma they had back then and the names i was called i took it out most of the time so my 2 fangs stayed where they were resulting in me living with them and crooked teeth till now (im 37). i dont smile as im very self concious of them and would love to have this corrected. is it too late to have this done and what kind of price would i be looking at. thankyou

A. Thanks for your questions, initially, I would ike to reassure you that it is not too late. There are many teeth straightening options available today. Each system has its adavantages, from being able to acheive results in as little as six weeks, through to being virtually invisible. I would recommend that you visit a dental professional to gain advise on which systems would be most effective for you, and the costs associated. In many cases, the practices who offer these services, will also offer a free initial consultation. Although the prices for teeth straightening will vary for each system and between practices, I can tell you that our prices currently start from £999. I wish you well with your treatment.Kindest RegardsDR Kailesh Solanki

Is bonding required for straightening teeth?

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009
Q. Hi i was wondering if you could help. my fang teeth are pointy and not straight at the bottom which makes my smile look uneven. would i be able to get bonding on the bottom of the teeth to straighten them out?? or is there another way i could do this? thank you

A. Thanks for your questions, bonding may be able to disguise the appearance of your canines. However you may also wish to consider having veneers placed on the teeth. These are thin layers of porcelain which are made to fit over the front surface of your tooth after it has been prepared. They can be used to alter the size shape and colour of the tooth to improve the aesthetic appearance of your smile. I hope this will be helpful for you.Kind RegardsDr Kailesh Solanki

Any disadvantages of six month smile over traditional braces?

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Hi, I am 41 years of age and have been to a couple of people to help me straighten my teeth. 1st was an orthodontsist who has offered to fit traditional braces (tooth coloured upper, and steel lower) which should take approx. 12 months. 2nd was a dentist who has took on the 6 month smile method (which would be tooth coloured upper and lower). Is there any disadvantages of the 6 month smile method against the traditional, and how would I be able to find out if the dentist is suitably qualified?

A. 6 month smile is a technique suitable for certain types of crowding, assuming you’re suitable then it should as well as a normal brace

I need a cost effective treatment to straighten my front teeth.

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Dear Dr Caplan, I am 23 and had braces as a teenager. However, since my wisdom teeth came through, my front two teeth are no longer straight. The left one has been pushed out and I look pretty goofy as a result. I find it quite upsetting. The rest of my teeth are fine. What kind of treatment could help? I do not have much money. Thank you.

A. We use a brace that fits on the inside of your teeth to quickly straighten your teeth – it takes about 3 months .  Following this the teeth are best held in place with a fixed retainer to prevent relapse.  We charge £1540.00 per arch- you may only require the upper teeth treated.  If you are interested please contact my surgery

I want to straighten my front teeth which are inclined.

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. HI! Im interested in getting my teeth straightened, but im not sure how to go about it. My teeth are pretty straight, except for my two top front teeth which go up abit like this / (but dont actually overlap each other). What would be the best form of treatment? Should I see my dentist first? Hope you can help.

A. A simple fixed brace would likely sort your problem out – in my practice I place a fixed brace on th tongue side of the teeth taht is invisible and comfortable.  This takes about 2 to 3 months to move the teeth at a cost of £1540. If this is of interest to you please contact my surgery

I would consider even extreme treatment for straightening my front teeth.

Thursday, November 26th, 2009
Q. Hey i was interested in knowing if there is a way of straightening my front teeth without braces. The main problem is my 2 front teeth are protruding out more than the rest of the teeth which is causing me to not smile or have a conversation with people as much, and braces would just intensify this problem for longer. im open to all suggestings, even the extreme to help solve this issue. Thank you.

A. If you are set against a brace then you should consider veneers to make the teeth appear straight. This is a very quick way of making the teeth look better but it usually means trimming some of the front teeth back.
