I found out a light brown line on my tooth is it decaying?

Q. I been recently to the dentist to have my teeth clean and he didnt mention anything but I notice on my bottom tooth their is a light brown line. Do I have to worry is it tooth decay.

A. Not if you have seen your dentist – however if you are still worried please visit him to settle your worries

Confused as I cannot find a reason for my smelly and rotting teeth.

Q. I had a veneer on my lateral incisor around 4 years ago. Last year I noticed that the tooth was discoloured around the gum line and had a bad smell/taste and feeling of pressure – never pain. After several courses of antibotics my Dentist performed root treatment, twice as it was unsuccessful the first time. My tooth still smells and tastes bad and my dentist is baffled – any ideas? I think perhaps there is a gap between the veneer and my tooth and that the front shell of my tooth is rotting, could that be the case – is there anything can be done? Thanks

A. You either have the abscess still present, gum disease or decay underneath your veneer.

Q. Hi, my nearve has been took out off my frount tooth at the time i dident no what the dentist was doin untill about 1 year ago i noticed that my tooth is going gray,i dont realy like smilein anymore because people notice it, and as i have not got a dentist naw and been waiting on the nhs list for 2 years i dont realy no what to do about it iv been thinkin ov goin privert so could u please tell me what and haw much would be the best thing to do to get this tooth sorted out. Q. I have quite a complex dental history and received 10 years of orthodontist care…. I had two operations when I was younger as I had an extra set of front teeth that were blocking the other set coming through. I had chains attached to my front teeth while they were still in the gums (am sure there’s a dental term for this!) and they were gradually pulled down with a brace. I didn’t get my front teeth properly until I was 17 and was brace free from 18, wearing a night retainer until I was 19-20. I had root canal treatment on my right front tooth approximately 18 months ago and then a replacement root canal 12 months ago…. through the NHS I requested to go back and see my old orthodontist at the dental hospital as I was concerned about the movement in my front teeth and how it had become discoloured. And I was unhappy with my NHS dentist… These are some of the comments made by my orthodontist in his letter to my regular dentist… I have: – a mild anterior open bite – somewhat spaced malocclusion – a mildly rotated left maxillary central incisor – a discoloured right central incisor I was discharged by my orthodontist but he is happy to see me again, and he has offered to correct the anterior and buccal spacing if this is something I wanted to persue. … and my gums are now receeding! My right front tooth has recently been causing me pain again and I am due to see my NHS dentist late december. At the last root canal treatment I had on my front tooth I also had it whitened but it has returned to its previous discoloured state. I have been thinking about veneers for a long time as I dislike the discolouring, wonky teeth and spaces BUT I’m a little bit clueless as to what would be the best option for me…. It is my two front teeth that concern me most, the discolouring and spacing. Any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated.

A. If the roots are stable then veneers would be a quick option to straighten the teeth and improve there colour.

Need treatment for my discoloured teeth for reasonable cost

A. Thanks for your question, you may wish to consider having a veneer placed on the tooth. This is a thin layer of porcelain which can be used to alter the size shape and colour of your tooth. The shade of your veneer could be chosen to match your other teeth, hence creating a more uniform look to your smile. Although the costs will vary between practices, you should expect to pay between £400 – £600 for a veneer. Many cosmetic practices who offer these services, will also have the facility to offer payment options such as interest free credit to help spread the cost. I hope this will be of assistance to you.

What are prices for cosmetic bonding?

Q. Hello, I am interested in the option of cosmetic bonding as my teeth are slightly even and discoloured. I would like to know the kind of prices that this would involve (I understand this will vary from dentist to dentist so just a rough idea would be great) Thanks

A. Thanks for your question, you are right in that the prices will vary between practices, but you should expect to pay between £80 – £150 for this treatment.

Scared to visit dentist for my discoloured rotting teeth

Hello, I have a front tooth that is rotting, it has turned black and does not look nice, I know I need the dentist but I have not had any good experiences with the dentist hence why I’ve put it off for so long, I know I have to go sooner rather than later but I’m worried about what they will do with the tooth in question, will they take it out or can they repair it?

You need the check up before you can get down to details. The good thing is that you dont have to have anything done at the first visit , just decide on some likely options.

What is the best way to cover discoloured teeth?

Q. I damaged my front tooth when i was younger this made it slack I was then given root treatment and in time my tooth started to discolour, it was then suggested i get an veneer, this venner looked good but after 3 yrs it chipped and I needed to get it replaced,my second veneer was only in for 2 weeks when it cracked from the inside.I was then given my third within 6 months this one became noticeably darker, my dentist advised me to get yet another, I am just home from appt and this veneer is slightly better but at my gum area all you can see is blackness. I did say that I was’nt happy with it but he expressed that is the best he can do with what he has to work with, my own tooth is black and yellow as he showed me. i am wondering if you could advise on any other options. thanks

A. Thanks for your questions, you may wish to consider having a crown on the tooth instead of a veneer. Although it would involve more preperation of the tooth, a crown would be much less transparent hence consealing the discolouration. I would recommend that you speak to your dentist to gain his professional opinion on the merit of this in your case. I hope that his helps.

What are the symptons of acid erosion?

Q. My two front teeth appeared to be thinning and therefore appearing darker for the last few months, however recently I managed to look behind my front teeth using a mirror and saw that there is a black mark on each one. Is this acid erosion and how do I get rid of this problem?

Is plastic teeth caps better than others?
