Q. I had root canal on my bottom front tooth which was a grey colour, i since had my teeth bleached and was told to inject the tooth after the bleaching procedure using the trays and bleach provided. This didnt work and the tooth looks terrible compared to my other teeth which are white. What do you suggest? I just want a nice smile.
A. Thanks for your question, you may wish to consider having the tooth veneered. A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain which is made to fit over the front surface of the tooth, and can be used to improve the colour, shape, size and overall aesthetic appearance of a tooth or teeth. The veneer would be made to match the whitened shade of your other teeth, to give a uniform look to your smile. I hope this helps.
Kind Regards

Q. HELLO DR MOORE, I AM A 40 YR OLD FEMALE I DO NOT SMOKE, DONT DRINK RED WINE OR COFFE. BRUSH MT TEETH TWICE A DAY AND FLOSS BUT MY TEETH HAVE STARTED TO GO OFF COLOUR (YELLOWISH). IS THIS PURELY AN AGE THING. I AM SCARED OF BLEACHING AS I DONT WANT MY TEETH TO GET SENSITIVE. I HAVE HAD SO MANY PROBS THIS YEAR WITH MY BACK MOLAR (TOOTH WAS DYING). I VALUE YOUR THOUGHT.
A. Bleaching can cause some transient sensitivity but on the whole is a very good way to improve the colour of the teeth with a minimum of fuss and expense

Q. Hiya, my teeth developed without the enamel being there when i was younger and i’ve been left with ugly discoloured teeth. Am i still able to have my teeth whitened?
A.
If you have amelogenesis imperfecta it is unlikely that bleaching will help. You will need some type of porcelain restoration to replace your missing enamel

Q. I just had a root canal done. I used Bleaching gel to white my teeth is that a good idea what the chances of me geeting an infection in my canal
A. please consult your dentist, usually it is fine to whitening teeth that have had Root canals, however it may be that the tooth has not had the treatment completed and in this case i would not recommend it. When having treatment carried out always ask your dentist any questions you may have pre and post treatment.

Q. hi i have the start of tiny pittting to my front top 2 teeth but not decay. each tooth also has white half moons on the tips (i have been told these white markings are genetic) the white half moons change daily from white to yellow (have u ever heard of anything like this before). my dentist says i have 2 choices he can either bond my teeth which would enable him to tone down the white bringing the colour more all together or bleach my teeth. i dont know what to do? i dont want to damamge my teeth i dont want a holowood smile just a more uniformed coloured front teeth . kind regds
A. The white patches on your teeth can be caused by many things but often is due to a change in calcium metabolism at the time of the front teeth tooth formation. My first treatmetn of choice would be totry bleaching but please be aware tha tthe white spots will get a lot whiter and stand out form the surrounding teeth. However once the bleaching is finished you will find the white patches will fade to blend in with the whiter surrounding teeth. If you still need bonding or veneers this can be done later

Q. hi there my front teeth have 2 white half moons on the tips (some days these tips are pure white another day are yellow) i also have some slight pitting to these 2 front teeth . my dentist has offered to bond them with composite filling and this will make them more of a uniformed colour or deep bleach them. i am not sure which road to take. what do you think? i dont want a holiwood smile just a more uniformed less yellow one kind regs
A. If you just want a slightly improved look then composite bonding works very well

Q. i would like to have my teeth bleached, but i have crowns on the front,is it still possible for me to have it done
A. many thanks for your email, if you do have whitening treatment there will be a possibility that the colour of the crowns and natural teeth will not match, if this does occur then the crowns will need replacing. hope this is helpful.

Q. I’m currently whitening my teeth at home with a custom set of trays made at my local dentist’s office. I’m using Optident 20% carbamide peroxide gel (2 hrs per session). After two nights in a row my teeth feel somewhat sensitive and on the third night during whitening I have experiences a couple of mildly painful ‘zingers’. So far I’ve been leaving the treatment a couple of days and then repeating. However, I feel that to get some real results I need to continue the treatment each night for a couple of weeks – which I’m sure will make my teeth more sensitive as I go. Is there any danger in feeling zingers and general sensitivity, and is there more merit in the treatments being done daily rather than spread out over a longer period of time? Many thanks for reading my question and any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
A. To get the best results you should bleach on consecutive nights for 2 weeks. The bleach penetrates the enamel, dentine and nerve hence the sensitivity. There is no permanent damage although the teeth do become porous and you should stay away from staining foods and drinks for the time you bleach and for 2 weeks after. Please be assured that once you stop the bleaching the sensitivity will go away after about a week.

Q. i hv extremely sensetiv teeth i want to know if i can hv teeth whitened at dentist without using peroxide. and what is safe to use for whitening teeth on a low budget. thankyou
A. hi
any non peroxide systems will not bleach the teeth per se , but if you have a high amount of surface staining air abrasion is very effective but you will still experiance sensitivity during this procedure which takes around 20 minutes in chair and is cheaper than bleaching.

Q. I am thinking about getting my teeth whitened. I have two crowns. Will they come up the same shade as the rest of my teeth. Thanks
A. Your crowns will not be affected by the bleach and you may well need them replaced following the bleaching treatment

Q. Hiya im a 60 yr old lady with very yellow teeth the bottom 4 are root filled so one has gone really dark the other 3 very discoloured i also have a bridge on either side at the top with 2veneers either side can you tell me if laser teeth whitening is going to work on all my other yellow teeth which are straight and neat looking where do i start to get advise from a dentist or a smile clinic cosmetic dentist Thank you
A. It is probable that even with bleaching you are going to need to have some type of restoration such as a veneer or a crown to disguise the discoloured teeth. I would try bleaching first and see what results you get but expect to go down the restorative road.

A. Book a hygiene visit at your local NHS dentist it will be free or low cost.

Probably you need to see a hygienist – if you manage to do this you should stop what ever is causing the staining, such as smoking, coffee drinking etc

Q. Hi, I have four crowns in the front of my mouth. I can recall the injections very well! (Felt like they were going through my gum, nose and into my brain). As most of the treatment has been done previously (20 yrs ago) and just the crowns need replacing (black gum lines) would the pain be less? And would the fees be less? Also i am thinking of buying my own bleaching kit from a recommended beauty agency. Do i complete this procedure first then visit the dentist to match the new crowns to the newly coloured teeth? In your opinion what is the most natural colour for a forty year olds teeth? Sometimes too white looks unnatural (TV news readers etc) Thank you.
A. High quality crowns which look natural takes time to make and therfore this is reflected in the price.
