How Long Does it Take to Recover from An Apicectomy?

Friday, July 22nd, 2016
Q.

I had an apicectomy done in February of last year. My mouth is still swollen and numb. How long does it take before the swelling actually goes away? My lip always feels like I have a fat lip. Some days are worse than others, it effects my speech. If it stays inflamed is there something over the counter I can take to help with the swelling? It still hurts on most days, I can’t eat on that side at all. I had this surgery in February 2015.

What Can I Give To My Granddaughter When She Gets Her Braces Tightened?

Thursday, April 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Patel, I hope you can help my granddaughter. What can I give to my granddaughter for the pain caused by the tightening of the brace every 4 weeks she’s in agony for 3 days after it’s done, her mouth is all swollen and she says she can’t go on with having it. She’s 15 years old. They have put blue blocks on the back teeth this time which is making it more sore. Please give us advice. She has been eating ice poles which seem to soothe the pain but this is only temporary relief. She is saying she has had enough. I hope you can help. Thank you for taking the time to listen to us.

My Jaw Is Still Swollen Following Root Canal Treatment, Is This Normal After Two Days?

Friday, March 15th, 2013
Q.

I underwent an initial root canal treatment for a lower molar on Wednesday 6th March, the dentist also discovered an abscess which he removed.

Two weeks prior to the root canal treatment he x-rayed my tooth and proceeded to fill it, he hadn’t noticed the abscess or the dead root, that sparked my curiosity somewhat and got me thinking, how easy are these to spot? I have never had an abscess before so I didn’t know what my problem was and would have expected the dentist to spot it properly. I am grateful he rectified it though. He then had to remove the new filling and start the initial root canal procedure.

However 2 days later my jaw and glands are still extremely swollen and sore, is this normal, or at least is it to be expected?

I look forward to receiving your response.

Regards.

I recently visited my dentists about Inman aligners, but she said I could’ve have them due to gum disease. Is there any way around this?

Monday, August 23rd, 2010
Q.
I recently visited a dentist about the Iman aligner as i have a large gap between my two front top teeth. She stated that I had gum diseases and I would not be able to have the braces until I have several cleaning /treatment. I do not feel that my teeth are as bad and I am very disappointed. Is there any other way around this and can I have any other type of braces. I was hoping i would be able to have the braces and treat the gum silmultaneously. My gums feel and look fine and they are not swollen. Please let me know if it is still possible to get the braces. Thank you.,
