Why does my tooth keep rising, 18 months after a root canal?

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011
Q.

I have a molar ( #19) that had a root canal 18 months ago. The tooth continues to rise slightly in the socket, and my dentist has to grind the crown down slightly twice. I do wear a splint at night on the upper teeth. I do not feel any pain in the tooth, but as it continues to rise it meets the upper teeth and begins to become tender in the root area. My question is why does the tooth continue to rise, and will it stop rising?

What causes severe pain and swelling following a wisdom tooth extraction?

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010
Q.

Hello Doctor,

Please help me. I had two lower wisdom teeth extracted on Friday 19th of Nov. Surgery went well under general anesthesia.

Bleeding stopped second day and a severe pain started on third or fourth day. Swelling was really bad especially on the left side which has now gone down.

I still have persistent sharp excruciating pain on the left side, it runs through the jaw and merges into the chin., i can feel a vibration in my temple and its really bad.

I went to hospital for a check up today at Eastman Dental, the dentist said it ‘could’ be an infection, she eliminated possibility of dry socket as she said that would not respond to pain killers, I am taking 2 mandanol 500 g to relieve pain.it gets better for a few hours.

She did not take any xrays and said because i could feel pain when she ‘poked’ at the site it was a good sign.

I have been prescribed Amoxicillin 500 mg for five days,

I am still worried as i have to teach in college and i can barely talk longer than five minutes, i have been off work for ten days now so this whole thing is really affecting me pretty badly.

DO you think i could still have a dry socket, and are these pains due to infection? I was given antibiotics at the start for five days, how did infection still develop, i have been keeping the site clean.

Please help, all i need to know if the diagnosis was alright or should I worry, I am due to travel in a few days.

How long will it take for my gums to settle down following apicoectomy surgery?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

Dear Dr Kailesh
I have recently undergone an apiceptomy, however I am growing concerned because it has now been two weeks since the procedure and my gum where the apiceptomy was performed is very swollen and sore. Is this normal? if so how long is it before the swelling disappears.

Do you know of any cases where white fillings have caused OFG?

Monday, October 4th, 2010
Q.
After many years of neglecting my teeth I went back to a dentist and needed some filling work and extractions. After attending the dentist for a number of months I noticed that I was getting a swelling [non tender] around the mouth and lower face. This was eventually diagnosed as OFG [ora-facial granularmytosis]. I still suffer from this and, whilst not painful, iit is unsightly. Do you know of any cases/instances where having white fillings fitted kicked off a condition such as this? I don’t seem to be able to get to the bottom of the cause and wondered if it might be the white filling material in the mouth? Many thanks,,

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010
Q.
hi andrew, i had root canal treatment and and crown replacement which has led to what was described as a facial nerve being danaged over 7 months ago a consultant along with another dentist has indicated that either part of the root canal treatment has been left inserted in my gum or its part of an instrument as yet they are not quite sure but may require micro surgery to remove in addition to this during a treatment session the wrong crown was pulled from my upper front left side casing trauma and severe facial sewlling to date this swelling is still evident and severe pain is constant as a result of poor treatment. can you advise. thanks,

I am experiencing pain in the tooth next to the one that was root canaled, is this normal?

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010
Q.
Hi, i did a root canal on friday on an upper tooth that was damaged but had fillings done months ago. im traumatized after the treatment, felt shaky right after i walked out of the clinic. After the root canal treatment, i did feel good for awhile but on the saturday, i had swelling on my whole of right face, even my tonsil and neck..swelling got worst by the day. Doc only prescribed me with mefanamic acid for the pain (no antibiotic given). even my head hurts. i visited the doc again on monday (today), re-cleaning of the tooth was done. swelling is still there (this time antibiotic was given), when i got home, i realized that the tooth next to it felt some pain. is that normal? or do i have to remove that tooth (the tooth that was re-cleaned seems ok so far).. swelling didnt go down yet, i still look like i got punched on the face, pain is minimized but i am feeling feverish after taking the antibiotic..is that a bad or good thing?. very worried and in pain…=’( Help…,
