Wednesday, February 24th, 2010
Q. hiya, recentaly i got a retainer for my 2 frount teeth to push them back to a stright shape again… i was wondering is it ok for me to take them out every day for 6 hours just wen college is over for me then i will put them back in soon as i can?,
A. It will take longer to move the teeth the longer you wear it the better if you are going to wear it at all other times than it should still work, please tell your orthodontist about this.

Do teeth have to be straight to be able to have veneers?

Friday, February 12th, 2010
Q. Hi Justin, I just wondered whether your teath have to be straight to have porcelain venners? I have quite uneven teath and wondered whether I would have to have a brace before looking into this?,
A. That depends on the positioning of your teeth. In some cases, veneers can be put on the teeth in a way that makes them look straight. I would need to see you first before coming to a conclusion.Justin Glaister

Can teeth with veneers and crowns be straightened?

Thursday, January 21st, 2010
Q. Hello, Would really appreciate some advice as I live outside of the UK. I’ve had rather alot of work done on my teeth. I used to wear a wire brace when I was younger to bring in my eye teeth. (UK) Since then I had lost a tooth on my upper right, 2nd back from my eye tooth. As a result I have a gap which isn’t too noticable but my centre line from my front teeth and teeth next to the gap have moved to the right an slightly in the way. On my upper left, I have had crowns and a bridge as a result of my molars breaking from previous grinding.(Belgium). I also had lovely porcelain veneers on my upper front 6 teeth about 10 years ago (in UK). I’m now in the process of getting old mercury fillings replace to white porcelain inlays here in Belgium. I have slightly larger than average teeth but not unsightly. I’m still unhappy with my smile as I find that they are going more to the right, off centre and the upper front left 3 teeth are slightly more buck teeth than the left due the gap on the right. I feel this could be sorted out with the 6 month smile..? Or some kind of brace..? Even though my dentist thinks they look great..but knows they are off centre but won’t offer any solution. I feel after the birth of each of my 3 sons births during the last 5 years, my teeth have got more off centre and buck on the left! With all of the above, my question is can teeth with veneers, crowns, still be straightened without tension that would ruin the veneers. My confidence has been down re my smile for years.. Please just let me know it’s possible without redoing everything again?!!,
A. You will need to consult a dentist to get a second opinion and have a full examination with a treatment plan outlining the least invaisive way forward.Kind regardsDr Justin Glaisterwww.umbrellasmiles.com

Any disadvantages of six month smile over traditional braces?

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Hi, I am 41 years of age and have been to a couple of people to help me straighten my teeth. 1st was an orthodontsist who has offered to fit traditional braces (tooth coloured upper, and steel lower) which should take approx. 12 months. 2nd was a dentist who has took on the 6 month smile method (which would be tooth coloured upper and lower). Is there any disadvantages of the 6 month smile method against the traditional, and how would I be able to find out if the dentist is suitably qualified?

A. 6 month smile is a technique suitable for certain types of crowding, assuming you’re suitable then it should as well as a normal brace

I need a cost effective treatment to straighten my front teeth.

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Dear Dr Caplan, I am 23 and had braces as a teenager. However, since my wisdom teeth came through, my front two teeth are no longer straight. The left one has been pushed out and I look pretty goofy as a result. I find it quite upsetting. The rest of my teeth are fine. What kind of treatment could help? I do not have much money. Thank you.

A. We use a brace that fits on the inside of your teeth to quickly straighten your teeth – it takes about 3 months .  Following this the teeth are best held in place with a fixed retainer to prevent relapse.  We charge £1540.00 per arch- you may only require the upper teeth treated.  If you are interested please contact my surgery

I want to straighten my front teeth which are inclined.

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. HI! Im interested in getting my teeth straightened, but im not sure how to go about it. My teeth are pretty straight, except for my two top front teeth which go up abit like this / (but dont actually overlap each other). What would be the best form of treatment? Should I see my dentist first? Hope you can help.

A. A simple fixed brace would likely sort your problem out – in my practice I place a fixed brace on th tongue side of the teeth taht is invisible and comfortable.  This takes about 2 to 3 months to move the teeth at a cost of £1540. If this is of interest to you please contact my surgery

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009
Q. I bite the inside of my cheeks alot, almost ever day since almost 10 or more yrs im 23 now.I don’t know what trigged this behavior but i cant stop. Every time im idle, i tend to do it.Even when im studying i do it the most also when im anxious. Im scared that it might lead to cancer since its a chronic habit. I really need help to stop it.Do you know by any chance why i do it and how i can stop it. Thank you

A. It can be because your teteh angle outwards or do not meet properly which can be corrected by orthodontics(tooth straightening).  Sometimes wisdom teeth can cause this go to your dentist so your teeth and bite can be checked.

Need to straighten and whiten my teeth

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009
Q. I am 46. I have recently noticed my teeth are discolouring. I dont smoke or drink fizzy drinks, but I am a coffee (not tea) drinker. I roughly drink around 4 cups per day. The tooth next to my front left is a milk tooth with a tiny filling, and the one next to that is slightly twisted. I would like to know the following pls. (a) can I have whitening treatment that would include a milk tooth? (b) to straighten the slightly twisted tooth, how much would that cost? Thank You

A. Thanks for your questions, it is possible to have teeth whitening treatment, despite the fact that you still have one of your baby teeth. However it is also possible that this tooth may not whiten as much as your permanent adult teeth. In respect of the teeth straightening treatment, there are many systems available today, with different benefits, with systems that are virtually invisible to systems whioch work in as little as six weeks. The cost of straightening will vary between systems and practices, however I can tell you that I currently offer teeth straightening from £999, with the option of interest free monthly payments available. I hope this information will help, but encourage you to contact me again should you require further assistance.

Could I ask my dentist for more aligner to straighten my teeth further?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Q. I am on my last aligner. I still feel that my teeth can be more straighter wih more alighners. could I ask for more aligners? Thanks

A. Thanks for your questions, this would depend onthe system you have used. If you have had Invisalign type treatment, you should be able to return to your dentist for refinement. This will involve taking further impressions and having more aligners made to acheive the results you are expecting. Please do not hesitate to contact me again if you need further assistance.

Would you recommend Inman aligner for straightening my teeth?

Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Q. Hello , i am 22 years old, i am in london for about 3 years and i am asylum seeker i dont work and i cant work but can you tell me how much is fees to straighten my upper front teeth for inman aligner treatment? and and if its affordable can i pay treatment fees in installments? and if not then can u tell me which is fast and easy way to straighten my teeth? and can u suggest any doctor who do inman aligners treatment in india? waiting for your reply . Thank you.

A. Thanks for your questions, the cost for the Inman aligner will vary between practices, but I am currently offering this service from £999. Many cosmetic dental practices do offer payment plans, but to the best of my knowledge, you (or your partner) would need to be in employment. The Inman aligner is one of the most cost effective and quickest treatments available to straighten teeth. I would suggest, that you research providers in India on the internet. Kind Regards.
