Hi Mark. I have a question I hope you can help me with. I had a root canal on one of my upper molars almost three years ago and I had a metal crown fitted. Now, I keep getting a severe cold, fever or a bad neck. I also get severe pain in that particular tooth for around one week and then the pain goes away by itself. I have been to the dentist for normal check-ups, they have X-rayed it, but they can not see anything wrong. Is there any reason for the pain in that particular tooth and do you know of any solution or remedy? Please help me! Thank you.

I Get Pain And Fever Ever Since I Had Root Canal Treatment. Is There Any Reason For This?
Tuesday, April 15th, 2014Since My Root Canal Treatment My Tooth Has Been Sensitive And Causes Pain Spreading To My Ears. Why Is This?
Monday, January 13th, 2014Hello Dr. Moore, I have undergone root canal treatment 2 months back. Currently my root canalled tooth is highly sensitive even to normal water. For both hot and cold things it is sensitive. It’s causing a pain and spreading to my ears. I am brushing with Sensitive pro-relief for 3 weeks, twice daily, yet no relief from the pain. While having chewing gum I can feel slight pain in the root canalled tooth at a particular spot. From that particular spot only, the pain is getting triggered. Can you suggest why this could be happening? Thank you, I shall look forward to your reply.
I Had A Root Canal Recently And The Pain Is Still Intense. Antibiotics Don’t Seem To Be Working. What Should I Do?
Monday, November 4th, 2013Hello Dr Moore. I’ve had really painful toothache on a crowned tooth which has previously had root canal work on it since last Sunday. I have taken amoxicillin 500mg for 5 days. The pain is still really intense and I can’t eat or drink as it flares the pain to intensity even further. What do you suggest is the best course of action? Do you recommend extraction? The crown has been fitted over a year ago now and I have noticed my crowns coming away from the gum line possibly due to receding gums. Really hope you can help me with this. Many thanks.
After Root Canal Treatment I Get A Pain In My Mouth And A Funny Taste. Would Removing My Tooth Be The Only Option?
Friday, September 20th, 2013I went to the dentist with pain which was going up my face and in my ear and when I bit on the tooth it hurt and felt like spongy. I also occasionally get a funny taste in my mouth. The tooth was one that I have had root treatment for last year which I had a few problems as I have a small mouth! Well that was what I was told and this was done through a crown(the crown wasn’t removed to do the treatment) When I went to the dentist today all they could say was that the tooth was decaying and couldn’t see much else wrong, basically try antibiotics to see if they would help but the only option would be to remove the tooth or retry root treatment privately for£400.00. That’s out, but would removing the tooth really be the only option? I have a fear of the dentist and I had a lot of problems with my teeth and required a LOT of treatment and I am only 46 and don’t have many of my own teeth.
I’ve Tried Many Treatments To Overcome My Root Canal Pain And I Don’t Know What To Do Next?
Wednesday, September 4th, 2013Mark,
I had a root canal job done on a molar in October last year, however the pain has come back – I have tried various antibiotics, plus gone back to the Endodontic specialist in Manchester who has re-drilled the canals again and put a temporary dressing in. I still have the pain. The specialist suggests the next step is to send me to a neurolgist, as nothing is showing on the x-rays and there are no other options.
A friend in Canada is a specialist Endodontist and delivers PIPS Laser treatment (LVI Global based) and has suggested I try to find someone who practices this in the UK and also look for a dentist who has a TENS machine. I’ve not had much success so far. Any advice was be very gratefully received.
Thanks.
My Jaw Is Still Swollen Following Root Canal Treatment, Is This Normal After Two Days?
Friday, March 15th, 2013I underwent an initial root canal treatment for a lower molar on Wednesday 6th March, the dentist also discovered an abscess which he removed.
Two weeks prior to the root canal treatment he x-rayed my tooth and proceeded to fill it, he hadn’t noticed the abscess or the dead root, that sparked my curiosity somewhat and got me thinking, how easy are these to spot? I have never had an abscess before so I didn’t know what my problem was and would have expected the dentist to spot it properly. I am grateful he rectified it though. He then had to remove the new filling and start the initial root canal procedure.
However 2 days later my jaw and glands are still extremely swollen and sore, is this normal, or at least is it to be expected?
I look forward to receiving your response.
Regards.

My teeth hurt after root canal, is this indicative of a problem?
Thursday, March 3rd, 2011HI
I had root canal treatment yesterday, and whilst the treatment went well i have a temperary filling and crown and need to have it finished next week. This is because my dentist said the roots are very long, she actually shown me the Xray and they practically come to the bottom of my jaw line. So more prep is needed.
Now to my concern: after the treatment everything was fine with no pain, however this moring i have woke up with quite a sensitive tooth, it’s not painful in general, just when i bite down. Is this normal, And can having such long roots cause more serious problems in the future? My dentist seemed quite….not concerned but well a little bemused!! Don’t get me wrong i like my dentist she is very patient with me as im a very nervous patient, i would just like a specialist opinion.
I am in the midst of root canal treatment, should it be hurting this much?
Thursday, February 24th, 2011I’m in the middle of Root Canal treatment on two of my larger teeth near the back (one on each side). I have had no pain from the first one I had done 2 weeks ago but the one I had done 4 days ago is aching when I bite down. Is this normal? (this one has had some rods drilled in whereas the other one has only been drilled out, nerves removed and temporarily packed.
I just wanted to know if it was normal to feel more pain when the rods have been put in place.
The work is being completed on both of the teeth in 4 days.
Many thanks.
