How Much Risk is Involved in Reshaping Overlapped Teeth?

Wednesday, April 29th, 2015
Q.

I went for a consultation for reshaping overlapped teeth. We discussed the braces option and C-Fast, but I don’t want to go through that. The cons were discussed. I would have to remove a lot of enamel and the dentist might hit a nerve that they can’t take responsibility for. If there were any damages, I would be charged to repair them. I think that If the dentist knows what he or she is doing, it shouldn’t be a problem, otherwise why advertise the reshaping of severe overlaps when there is so much risk involved. What do you think? Reshaping and crowns seem the best and cheapest option.

I Think My Porcelain Crowns On My Two Front Teeth Look Too Big. Can I Get Them Reshaped?

Monday, December 9th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I’m looking for some advice. I recently got porcelain crowns on my front two teeth. I think they look a little big, can they be shaped now that they are in place? I have always hated my two front teeth as they looked too big. I was hoping that the crowns would have made them look smaller in comparison. If they try and shape them now, will it most likely dull them? Is there anything else that could go wrong if I got them reshaped? Thank you. Any advise you can provide me with on this matter would be very helpful.

I Chipped A Front Tooth A Few Years Back. Should I Have The Other One Reshaped?

Monday, November 25th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Shaffie. I chipped one of my front teeth a few years back now but the tooth I chipped has always been longer than the one next to it. Do you think I could I get some sort of reshaping to make it the same length as the one next to it? If so how much do you think would it cost? I need about 2 mm taken of the tooth so its the same length. The part of the tooth that is chipped is now the same length as the other teeth, so the reshaping would also have to match the chip. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer me.

I’m Wondering How I Should Treat The Chip In My Tooth. With Veneers Or Reshaping?

Wednesday, November 13th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I hope you can help me. My enquiry relates to the fact that I have a chip on my front tooth that is filled with composite, however this constantly keeps coming off. I have been told a veneer is an option however I am wondering if having the tooth reshaped would be a better option? I am worried that the chip in my tooth may be too large to reshape. Any advice you could offer would be great as this is something that constantly worries me and affects my confidence. Thanks, I look forward to any advice you can offer.

Can you reshape a gold crown?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Q.

I recently got a gold alloy crown fitted on one of my tooth. When closing the jaw, it wasn’t very comfortable as the crown was too high. So the dentist used one of the instruments to heat the top of the crown and adjust the height.

On returning home, the surface of the crown looks smooth on the sides but on the top it looks rough which I guess is due to manual adjustment.

My understanding was that the height of the tooth is reduced so that the crown fits over it and is in level with the neighbouring teeth.

My concern is that heating the top of the crown might have created a tiny microscopic hole that might over time lead to bacteria seeping in.

Is it common procedure to reshape the gold crowns?

I have two big front teeth that I really hate, what can I do about this?

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr Riten Patel I have 2 big front teeth that I hate. Is there anyway to make them smaller so as to align them to the rest of my teeth?

The rest of my teeth are ok, but its only my 2 front teeth that are longer and bigger then the rest.

What can be done about a veneer that is slightly discoloured and misshapen?

Friday, December 17th, 2010
Q.

Hi Dr,

I broke my front tooth last year and had a veneer fitted. I feel a bit disappointed in it’s appearance as it seems slightly off colour and the tooth seems wider than it should be, it also seems to not be shaped as the one next to it. My teeth were absolutely perfect before and I’m so upset that I broke it and now I feel that I will never look the same or do not want my photo being taken as I now hate my smile. Everyone says it looks ok, but it just doesn’t look right to me. What do you think I should do? Can my veneer be reshaped? This is causing me a lot of upset. Thank you for your time.

I would like a smile makeover but don’t know where to start, please help!

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr. Rob, I am 21 years old and am actively looking for a smile makeover, but ofcourse dont know where to start. My Teeth: I have an overbite (my 2 front teeth stick out and i hate it.) also my teeth feel overcrowded and crooked. Sounds really bad when i write it out, but it does hurt my self esteem. Could you please kindly advise any options for me (besides visual braces, and treatments that take over 2 years), which will fix my problem. I hope This all made sense:) I look forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards,
,
