Hello, I knocked my front tooth out when I was younger and wore a bridge (one sided) for years. Last year (aged 28) I decided to have an implant fitted instead. It was fitted and my dentist had to rebuild the gum above. Anyways it all went ok and then last Sept he fitted my new porcelain crown. Over the last 8 months my the gum surround my teeth EITHER SIDE OF the implant has become very red and has started to receed. This is gum above 2 good teeth and not above the implant. The gum above the implant has receeded a little too but I think that is cause they had to rebuild it so much in the first place. My concern is as to why the gum is receeding above my good teeth. My dentist cannot figure it out but says it has nothing to do with my implant yet before I had this fitted there was nothing wrong. What do you think? Do you think it could be to do with the crown itself? Please help as Im worried I might start losing some teeth! Thanks,

I am a 53 year old female. Have always taken great care of my teeth. Over recent years have been treated by my dentist and hygienist for receding gums. Visited my dentist yesterday with what I though was just a crack in one of my old fillings, only to be told that the tooth was actually fractured vertically. It is in my upper jaw and third from the back. I have a wide smile and it will definitely show if I have it removed. My dentist advised that it may last for a year, (he drilled out the old filling and repacked it)
He was less than helpful about my options and I left the surgery confused and shocked. My question is would I be better off having an implant or a bridge to replace the gap. One of the teeth that would be needed to support the bridge is deeply filled. Also a guide to how much this would cost would be useful.
Thank you very much for your time.

Q.
Hi Mark, I was the victim of violent crime some 10 years ago where I21 and 22 were knocked out, taking much of the surrounding gum tissue and bone with them and I 11 was cracked in half. I received treatment at the Leeds Dental Institute back in 2001 where they placed two implants, abutments and crowns in and cemented then veneered I11. It was decided by the surgeons at the time that, due to the large amount of discharging bone fragments, that to risk a gum graft was not sensible. Therefore I currently have a slight lack of gum surrounding I21 / 22. I am not happy with the positioning or visibility of the crowns today. Recent x-rays show that the implants are perfectly healthy with no further receeding of the surrounding tissue or bone. I am interested in understanding the process for replacing both crowns and the veneer to more aethetically pleasing versions, combined with a tooth whitening process. At the same time I would like to specifically understand how a gum graft can be factored into this proceedure and what the inherent risks are today and the likely costs of such treatments. I look forward to hearing back from you soon.
,

Hi Andrew, I have severe receding gums on the inner part (tongue side) of the front of my mouth causing looseness to 2 of my front bottom teeth thanks to periodontitis. I’m petrified of the dentist (thanks to a bad experience with braces in my teens) and have noticed this only over the past few days how severe this is-I can’t eat, teeth too sensitive. My confidence is being affected by this. What can I do if my teeth fall out? I’m really scared. Help!!,
