Q. I just had a root canal done. I used Bleaching gel to white my teeth is that a good idea what the chances of me geeting an infection in my canal
A. please consult your dentist, usually it is fine to whitening teeth that have had Root canals, however it may be that the tooth has not had the treatment completed and in this case i would not recommend it. When having treatment carried out always ask your dentist any questions you may have pre and post treatment.

Q. Hiya, I’m 14 and have just been advised to get braces
. I have a huge overbite due to sucking my thumb at an early age and I really hate it. I’m really interested in getting my teeth straightened, have deneers and having my teeth whitened. Will I be able to get this treatment at my age and how much will it cost? Thanks.
A. At your age you can have braces on the NHS at no cost, however this does depends on your case but it sounds like you may be a candidate.
Veneers are not recommended at your age. I think you will find that once your teeth are straightened you will not need veneers. If you would like to whiten your teeth i advise you wait till you are 18.

Q. I am interested in having my teeth whitened. would you recommend that I should see my local dentist or use your whitening kit. Are results guaranteed? What if I am not completely satisfied do you have a money back guarantee?
A.
No dentist will give you a money back guarantee on tooth whitening as your teeth are the limiting factor, not the product. Everybody achieves different results, some people jump 10 shades, some only 2 It is impossible to tell you what result you will achieve pre treatment. /you just have to try it. Tooth whitening is the least invasive way to achieve a whiter smile.

Q. I have quite yellow teeth, always have since a child. I have recently had bone grafts in both upper and lower jaw due to peridontal disease.Which i am told has been stopped. Now i need 4 crowns.I would like whiter teeth before the new crowns are made. The dentist told me that as i smoke the results will only last a few months?.So i may have to opt for two veneers on the canine teeth, which are the darkest teeth. I live in Cyprus ,so a UK visit is not an option with dental costs involved. What do you think about whitening as opposed to the 2 veneers. Do you have any contact info of a clinic that uses the enlighten system in Cyprus. For over 30 years all i ever wanted was a nice smile, now im confused and wary!!!Please help.
A. I would rather you tried whitening you can always have veneers later. I use the enlighten system and think its the best you could try contacting the enlighten company directly to find a dentist.

Q. i currently have a false removable tooth in my front left tooth and my teeth are discolored! i wish to get my teeth whitened and my false front tooth made the same color as my teeth when there whitened. To do this i would have to have it replaced i assume. what are my options and what cost would this be?
A. Whitening the teeth will cost around £400. the replacement tooth could cost around £200 if it is a single tooth denture.

Q. Hi im interested in getting my teeth whitened, however how is this allowed as i read an article that says th Eu only allows 0.01% hydrogen peroxide. Surely this wouldnt work. MY dentist says he can do it but im now sceptical as it sounds illegal and dangerous. Can you help, thanks
A.
Teeth whitening at the dentist is not dangerous. Teeth whitening is non invasive and is the best, least invasive way to whitening your teeth. The only side effect is that you may get some sensitivity, which will subside within 48 hours of stopping the treatment.

Q. I recently had my old ,crumbling (due to eating disorders) teeth ,removed and dentures fitted….a ghastly experience ,but i thought worth it ,as i`d now finally be able to smile with confidence.. However ,the teeth i`ve been fitted with ,are no where near as white as those i`d been shown (as mine). My dentist then left ,and i went elsewhere for the fitting.. Is there anyway at all i can help to brighten my teeth..i`m not vain (ever!) ,but it`s really affected (and still is) ,the way i talk….and i still don`t feel much like smiling….help???Thank-you..
A. hi many thanks for your enquiry, the problem you have is once a denture is processed, the tooth colour cant change. so if you want whiter teeth, you would need to have a new denture made. hope this is helpful.

Q. hi, one of my front tooth has developed a yellowish grey color (after having a filling due to decay many years ago) and is very visible. will having my teeth whitened help?
A.
The discolouration has happened inside of the tooth and so whitening the outside of the tooth will not help. Ask your dentist about possibly whitening the inside of the tooth and if you have no luck with this, the next nest would be a porcelain veneer.

Q. I was wondering if you could help, I have a gap between my front two teeth and am looking to get this closed. I’m also looking to get my teeth whitened but have no idea where to look or how much it would cost? There appear to be many places that offer treatment but How do I know they can be trusted? Many Thanks

Q. I’m currently whitening my teeth at home with a custom set of trays made at my local dentist’s office. I’m using Optident 20% carbamide peroxide gel (2 hrs per session). After two nights in a row my teeth feel somewhat sensitive and on the third night during whitening I have experiences a couple of mildly painful ‘zingers’. So far I’ve been leaving the treatment a couple of days and then repeating. However, I feel that to get some real results I need to continue the treatment each night for a couple of weeks – which I’m sure will make my teeth more sensitive as I go. Is there any danger in feeling zingers and general sensitivity, and is there more merit in the treatments being done daily rather than spread out over a longer period of time? Many thanks for reading my question and any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
A. To get the best results you should bleach on consecutive nights for 2 weeks. The bleach penetrates the enamel, dentine and nerve hence the sensitivity. There is no permanent damage although the teeth do become porous and you should stay away from staining foods and drinks for the time you bleach and for 2 weeks after. Please be assured that once you stop the bleaching the sensitivity will go away after about a week.

Q. my grandson has not grown, he is 12 years of age and still has almost all his milk teeth. He has breathing difficulties and there is little evidence of his adult teeth in his jaw – what treatment should he have, he lives iin Italy and opinions are severely divided as to the treatment necessary.
A. in the UK this type of case is managed in specialist clinics. three consultants, surgical, orthodontics & restorative would asses together and decide together

Q. i hv extremely sensetiv teeth i want to know if i can hv teeth whitened at dentist without using peroxide. and what is safe to use for whitening teeth on a low budget. thankyou
A. hi
any non peroxide systems will not bleach the teeth per se , but if you have a high amount of surface staining air abrasion is very effective but you will still experiance sensitivity during this procedure which takes around 20 minutes in chair and is cheaper than bleaching.

Q. Hi, My teeth are discoloured due to drinking a soya based milk as a baby in 1986 which was found to contain phytoestrogens. Will whitening remove the discolouration?
A.
The best option would be to have a consultation with a dentist so they can assess this problem and advise more appropriately on the best option for you.
There are many different types of whitening available from home whitening kits to in surgery whitening or a combination of both to get the desired result.
I would suggest you see a dentist for there opinion on what type of whitening would best be suited for your concern.
