Q. Hi, i had a brace when i was about 13 for 10 months and had to have some teeth removed to make space for them to straighten out, well i am now 20 and during the last couple of years i have started to grind my teeth, they have become sensitive and look awful my two front teeth are the worse one is shorther then the other and 3 of my bottom front teeth have been ground down aswell so all my back teeth are fine but when i bite my front teeth dont meet, what is the best way to sort this and least expensive? Thankyou so much

A. hi many thanks for your email, the best least expensive way to sort this out is rebuild the front teeth using white filling material and then invest in a nightguard so if you do grind your teeth at night it will be the nightguard which is ground away and not your teeth.

hope this is helpful.

A. Thanks for your enquiry, at a lot of practices, it is possible to apply for finance to spread the cost of your treatment. At many practices this can even be interest free, as you have been resident in the United Kingdom for more than three years, you should be able to make an application. I would expect you to have to provide both a proof of address and a proof of signtaure but I foresee no problems in qualifying to make an application. I hope this helps. Many Thanks.

Q. I was born without incisor teeth but the eye teeth grew in where the incisors should be. On the left side there is no gap for an incisor to go and on the right side, the gap is very small. My incisor teeth are right next to my front teeth. How do I get these teeth when there is no room in my mouth? what are my options?

A. You need to have a consultation the options would either be closing the residual spaces or opening the spaces and then adding 2 new teeth.

A. Whitening the teeth will cost around £400. the replacement tooth could cost around £200 if it is a single tooth denture.

Q. Hi, I only have 1 back molar tooth on the bottom rear (the 1 behind it & ahead of it had to be extracted). Are there any problems down the road if I don’t do anything about it – or should I be getting a bridge? I’m told a bridge will run around $3,000.00 but that’s a lot of money! Please let me know if there would be any problems leaving it as is? Thank you!

A. Its always best to replace missing teeth despite the cost as not replacing teeth causes added stress on the other teeth

A. The 3 ways to restore missing teeth are with dentures, bridges and implants. There are a number of factors that would determine which of these options would be best for you. Please contact my surgery for an appointment when I would be able to find out which of these options I would recommend.

Q. Hi, Im 21 and I have had a root filling in my front tooth a while ago, which made it appear discoloured, i then decided to get my teeth whitened, before the treatment i asked my dentist if the whitening would work on the root filled tooth as this was the main reason for the treatment, he said he would whiten the tooth from the inside and fill it again, after doing this i went back for a follow up appointment where he replaced the filling again and added more whitening treatment, my tooth felt very thin after this that i didnt even think he had filled it yet, when i mentioned it felt very hollow he said he had filled it. On a 3rd follow up appointment he was going to replace the filling again until i mentioned i thought the whiteness of the tooth appeared “grainy” again, he THEN suggested getting a crown and to go away and think about it. Shouldnt this have been suggested in the beginning? I then noticed a crack appearing in my tooth from the inside and today while brushing my teeth the tooth has cracked off completely. I’m so upset as it looks awful. Is there something the dentist could do straight away as i couldnt face going into work with no tooth. thanks.

A. I am one of the few dentists in the country who could give you a new tooth within a few hours. Please ring my practice on 01727854429 to see if we can see you this week. I certainly understand your embarrassment but it is a very unusual situation for a front tooth to fracture like this unless there was a lot of decay present in the tooth before youre dentist started treatment.

Q. Hi there i have a tooth that is half missing! my dentist wants to do an extraction on it but i keep putting it off, it has started to hurt abit now! but if i go let my dentist extract the remaining tooth will there be any problems duing the extraction? where the tooth has brocken the gum has gone over the the broken part so i think that she is gonna have problems getting it i am more frieghtend of the dentist cutting my gum open! im am terified of going to the dentist ever since a dentist i used to go to messed up one of my teeth.

A.

It sounds as though you do need your tooth removed- please discuss your anxiety with your dentist as the problem of removing the tooth will only increase the more the decay is allowed to grow
