I was involved in an RTA last February, I lost 1 tooth and had a lot of damage to my other 4 front teeth. The NHS dentist I went to did (in my opinion) a really poor job. They patched them up with filler, using two different types so they don’t even match! The sizes are wrong and the bridge he put in sticks out like a sore thumb. I had root canal on both my upper two front and and the damage on one was half the tooth missing. I’ve had to go back as the filler has come off twice. Surely I need crowns or veneers? I cannot afford to go private. Where do I stand getting this sorted on the NHS? I’m 31 and have taken really good care of my teeth, check ups every 6 months/brushing/flossing. I’ve never even needed a filling so this is all very upsetting.

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012 Hello, I am 17 years old but turn 18 in 4 days, I have wanted braces for a while now but only recently has it come to my attention that I should really get braces as my teeth are affecting me everyday and is sometimes uncomfortable the way my teeth are arranged. I recently phoned up an orthodontist to make an appointment to see somebody, but they informed me that, because of my age, I have left it too late and would have to go privately, I’m in full time education and will not be able to afford to go private. I was just wondering if there is anyway that this particular orthodontist is wrong and there is actually a way of getting around the problem of age and cost?
If not do you know what other options are available to me?

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012 hello, im wanting to have porcelain veneers, im 18 years of age and im in full time education, and dont have a job, can i claim on the nhs ? or will i have to pay in full?
i go to Grangewood Dental Practice, in wollaton nottingham.
my teeth are ok but are just stained from tea and coffee and two chips are at the front of my teeth.
i really hope you can help me out as im in desperate need of these, due to me not being able to smile correctly without hiding behind my hand when i laugh.

Monday, April 11th, 2011 I need a second opinion.
6 months ago I was advised to have 5 teeth removed on my upper mouth as crowns had come badly adrift and also there were 2 abscesses .The dentures I have been given a) are so much bigger than my previous denture and as a family we all have small teeth so now I have a mouthful of huge teeth.
b) they are so loose I have to use copious amounts of strong fixative . The dentist says my mouth is too small to have flanges on the left hand side so it just doesn’t stay in.
c) She had another one made but it was worse than the first on , looser and teeth even longer.
This process has so far taken 6 months and we are still not sorted.She keeps blaming the technician.
Am I being unreasonable to have expected this process to be done in a much shorter time and to have teeth which fit?This is private work.

Monday, March 14th, 2011 Do you happen to know if dental students (or NHS) require anyone to practice fitting a full top jawbone of implants? I was a Police officer who lost most of my top jawbone teeth trying to break up a large fight (resulting from an assault) when a group turned on my colleague and me. I was fitted with a bridge, as I was unable to cope with a plate (I could not stop gagging, was unable to speak properly, and lost a serious amount of weight during that time). Many years later, I broke my back (representing my country in the high jump) and required to lay flat for over ten years (obviously in that time unable to have dental treatment).
Nowadays, I am at least on crutches (having had a spinal stimulator fitted, albeit a faulty one)but my back used to ‘go’ quite frequently and having fallen quite a few times my bridge got broken, not to mention all the cuts and bruises. I am utterly terrified of having a full denture and simply cannot afford to have any dental treatment (probably other than a plate) as I am on disability allowance; therefore, I have been attempting ‘home’ dentistry. One of the teeth that held one side of the bridge, I drilled into and fitted with a post (part of a metal coat hanger) whilst the other tooth I super glued but unfortunately I am required to redo them maybe once/twice a week. I know this is not good, not to mention the fumes when I have to use the glue (I can feel it filling my lungs).
All I want is to be able to eat reasonably and have a nice smile again. I am just so paranoid of people looking at my teeth I do not leave the house at all in case I have to speak or feel the need to smile (serious self-esteem issues).
Do you happen to know of anyone who would/could help me in any way?
