Will My NHS Exemption Card Entitle Me to a Porcelain Crown?

Thursday, May 19th, 2016
Q.

I have a ceramic crown that broke and my dentist says he will need to make a new metal crown. This is for a molar, number 6. You will be able to see it when I smile, so I am hoping to get a porcelain bonded to metal crown.

I am pregnant and have an NHS maternity exemption card, but I am not sure if this will only cover a metal crown or if I will need to pay privately to make it look like a normal tooth. Would this be considered cosmetic? I am not really sure what the “free” NHS exemption card entitles me to. I am happy to pay privately because it is important to me that I don’t show metal when I smile. I would just like to be prepared.

How Can I Restore my Missing Teeth?

Monday, March 30th, 2015
Q.

Many years ago when I had my first child I lost a lot of teeth whilst I was pregnant, it didn’t matter how much milk I drank and healthy food I ate, and had to have a plate fitted. Then 16 years later it happened again.I lack confidence in a very big way. Can you please tell what I can do? I was referred many years ago for implants but I got scared and didn’t get it done on the NHS back then. My dentist said in time I’m going to loss the front one. Please can you help to advise me on what I can do? Thank you.

Friday, December 12th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. My front teeth wobble just a little bit, but on the top of one of them the tooth is a little bit black. I brush my teeth every day I am worried that I will loose my front teeth. I am already extremely paranoid about them and don’t smile at all. I am currently pregnant, and only 23, so I certainly don’t want to loose my teeth. Please can you help?. Also, my front teeth stick out a little. I need help, I have lost quiet a few of my back teeth and I’m really scared of the dentist. Thank you.

Does Pregnancy Cause Problems with Inman Aligner Treatment?

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Gambroudes. I am picking up my Inman Aligner this Friday, and the treatment is due to be complete in a few months. My question is:
If I were to become pregnant during this time, would this cause problems my treatment? I have read some things on the internet that it shouldn’t be a problem but others have said it would be, which is true? Thank you in advance for your time!

My Daughters NHS Crown Is Too Bulky. Can She Have Her Crown Re-Done?

Tuesday, April 1st, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I hope you can help me. My daughter who is 18 years old has had a white crown fitted by a NHS dentist. The treatment was free as she has had a baby within the last 12 months. The crown is much bigger than her other teeth, although it is fitted at the back of her lower teeth. The dentist realized that the crown was too big before he carried on with the treatment. He did not offer to re-size the tooth and asked my daughter if she wanted the crown or not. She had no alternative but to carry on with the procedure. Can she have her crown re-done? Thank you for your time.

I Was Wondering If Payment Plans Require Taking Out Credit Or Whether You Can Just Pay A Certain Amount Each Month?

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. I had a root canal done a couple of years ago that failed and the tooth came away (molar), a pre-molar in front of it also had to be removed after my first pregnancy. I have seen someone who advised me that I could have a dental implant and the cost of this however they didn’t offer a payment plan. I was just wondering whether your payment plans require taking out credit or whether you can just pay a certain amount each month? I live in the North West area and I am really looking to get this done as soon as possible. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

I Had Two Pregnancies Back To Back Which Really Did A Number On My Teeth. Will I Ever Be Able To Get A Beautiful Smile Again?

Monday, February 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello doctor. I had two pregnancies back to back that really did a number on my teeth. I ended up with periodontal disease and I am now paying the price for not paying close attention to it. I have a couple of teeth that are loose and some that I think are going to need root canals, fillings, etc. Can a mouth full of horrible teeth like mine ever be beautiful again? My biggest fear is ending up with dentures or toothless. I look forward to your advice. Thank you.

I Am 5 Months Pregnant. Would I Get A White Filling For Free Through The NHS?

Thursday, December 5th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I’m currently nearly 5 months pregnant, I have a maternity exemption form and I just wanted to know something, a couple of months after I had my son I was brushing my teeth and the inside corner up to the halfway mark chipped off one of my top front teeth, I never got it looked at because I was always ashamed of it never smiling in front of people and never laughing and so from then a month or two after that it broke up to the top and was more ashamed to let anybody see it. It’s been like this now for around 2 years, would I have to pay for this as it would need a white filling, thanks in advance.

How Can I Find More About Collagen Injections For My Receding Gums?

Friday, November 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. How can I find out more about using collagen for my receding gum line on the bottom front teeth. Where is this procedure offered and how much does it cost? Since having my third child my gum line has gone and worried I’m going to lose most of my teeth if they get wobbly as I can see the roots of my teeth, is this my only option before I end up with no teeth? How many times has this procedure been done in the Uk? Please help me with this.
