Q. hi i got a single yellow upper front teeth. it looks very ugly . iwant to get rid of this problem .if i go for surgery how much it cost for me pls help
A. Thanks for your question, you may wish to consider having a veneer placed on the tooth. This is a thin layer of porcelain which can be used to alter the size shape and colour of your tooth. The shade of your veneer could be chosen to match your other teeth, hence creating a more uniform look to your smile. Although the costs will vary between practices, you should expect to pay between £400 – £600 for a veneer. Many cosmetic practices who offer these services, will also have the facility to offer payment options such as interest free credit to help spread the cost. I hope this will be of assistance to you.
Kindest Regards
Dr Kailesh Solanki.

Q. I just had a 6 unit full porcelain bridge placed in December of 2009, I just noticed a very tiny chip in between my two front teeth. Is this repairable?
A. Thanks for your question, it is possible that the dentist would be able to repair the chip without removing the bridge.
Many Thanks

Q. I have had 4 porcelain veneers done in Sept 2009 on my front teeth and wish I hadn’t now as have had problems in that after the permanent ones were placed on one came off after 3 days as it appears I grind my teeth at night. I know the veneers are slightly longer that original teeth which i didn’t agree too and so now everytime i talk, they ‘catch’ with the bottom teeth. I am concerened this catching will lead to other falling off prematurely so want them altered so they are same length as original teeth. Will there be damage to underlying teeth if these veneers are taken off to be replaced?
A. They can be replaced without causing problems but the first thing to do is go back to your dentist and see if the bite can be adjusted. You may benefit from a nightguard that can reduce grinding.

Q. Hello I had bulimia in the past and my teeth are heavily damaged, the front teeth especially have lost enamel and left ugly yellow marks that brings down my confidence. I am considering teeth whitening. Would this make the yellow marks disappear? Thank you for your time
A. I have treated a number of bullimic patients and if all the enamel has been removed the teeth will not whiten, better option is bonded fillings or porcelain veneers or crowns.

Q. I had porcera crowns fitted in india about year ago but I have slight chips on the edges caused I think by grinding my teeth. Could these chips be repaired? Thank You.
A. Sometimes they can be repaired but it is highly likely they will re chip, one option is to have them replaced but ensure your dentist looks at your bite you may need to wear a bite guard at night.

Q. Dr. Moore, A year ago, I had a composite filling put into my front tooth. A few days ago, the bottom part of the tooth broke off in two places and the composite filling from the front remaining part to the top has come out completely; leaving only a thin part of my real tooth behind. Is this tooth salvagable for a crown?
A. Without seeing you I can’t tell for sure but it is usual for a there to be still enough tooth for a crown even after a breakage.

Q. Hi Mr Moore, I was a patient of yours until you left Mr Clough’s practice when I was 15. I’m disappointed to report that the poster has been removed from the ceiling of your old consulting room so now there’s nothing to distract patients from the drilling! Anyway, when I was 9 I fell over and broke my front two top teeth. When I was 15 you root canaled my front two teeth as well as the next one along to the right and then veneered them. I’m 24 now and i’ve known for some years there was a very slow growing infection above the root of the front left tooth and the one to its left. I was advised for years by oral surgeons at St John’s to leave it alone for the time being, until last November when Mr Falconer advised me I should have them re root canaled. Mr Brady at Clough’s practice re-did the front two, and also canaled the one to the left of the front two for the first time. This was done at Christmas. So now all four at the front have been root canaled – the middle two twice each, and the ones either side once each. I’ve been back to see him today because i’ve been experiencing sensitively for the last 3 weeks, usually when I have a drink. This in itself surprised Mr Brady because you’d think due to the very nature of a root canal that I wouldn’t be able to feel anything. Unfortunately the dark patch on the xray above my front left and the one next to it is darker again. We don’t think the bone ever fully recovered, despite the cleaning material that was packed into them at Christmas, however, the patch is now definitely darker again. Mr Brady mentioned that he didn’t think it was infection as such but the bone density seems to be suffering. Mr Brady is quite keen to do an apisectomy. I’m not quite so keen as my Mum ( who you also treated over the years) had two of these done at St John’s not all that long ago and suffered some gum recession. As i’m only 24 and have veneers on the front two i’m nervous about this side effect. The alternative Mr Brady suggested was to privately see an endodontist to re root canal again – he’s referred me to Richard Hems at the Colchester Dental Referral Centre. This option would be much more costly, presumably with no risk of gum recession, but I don’t know what the success rate is like. We very much trusted you for all the years you were our family dentist and i’d really appreciate your opinion as to which might be the better option for me. Kind regards
A. Hi, Nice to hear from you but sorry to hear of your problems wih your front teeth. I personally try to avoid apicectomy of teeth as it often fails and leaves the subsequent bone unsuitable for implant placement as the defect left behind is usually quite large. My feeling is to consider re-treating the root canal however I would need to see an x-ray first. I would be very happy to see you at my clinic if you would like a second opinion, one of my colleagues has extensive experience in root canal treatment but is not a specialist so his fees might be less. Please feel fre to contact me either at the practice on 01245 268 494 or by e-mail at enquiry@advancedentalclinic.com if you would like me to take a look. Regards Andrew

Q. I need a crown for one of my upper central front teeth, my dentist has suggested that I have the crown which is totally made of porcelain – it is the most expensive option but my main concern is will it be as strong as the porcelain crown with the metal interior?
A.
There are different types of all porcelain crowns with flexural strengths ranging from 56MPa to 900Mpa. If your teeth are not especially worn all porcelian crowns do very well – even in bruxers the zirconium crowns900
pa seem to be doing well if properly made. Porcelain bonded to metal substructure can also fail as the prcelain can chip if the bite gets in the way

Q. Dear dr, Can we have a veneer on a porcelain cap for front teeth for adjustment purpose? thanks for the answer
A.
Yes, it is possible to bond porcelain to porcelain- but this should be done by a dentist who knows what they are doing. I would advise that you see a cosmetic dentist who has excellent liason with the dental laboratory. This way, perhaps the lab technician can be present with the dnetist and yourself at the appointment. Discuss this with your dentist.

Q. i am getting invislign i have a porcelain tooth will the cement break off it is in the front lower
A. This is very unlikely but a possibility. If this were to happen your dentist could either recement the crown if the underlying tooth was healthy and the crown fitted correctly or replaced if there was a problem

Q. Today I had a porcelain crown put in. In order for the dentist to not have an interference with my jaw closing he had to grind a large amount of porcelain away to the base metal. What are the specifications of doing such a thing. I.E. how much base metal showing is acceptable. I paid a significant amount of money for the crown. Thanks,
A. Sometimes teeth move during the time the temporary crown is in place. this can be in a vertical direction and so can require the dentist to adjust the bite. If metal shows the only issue is aesthetics usually. On a back crown this usually is not the main issue – rather function and longevity. However if you are not happy contact your dentist to discuss this matter with them.

Q. I have had gum recession for years and am very long in the tooth! I also have lost teeth but thankfully not front ones. Can I get my smile back with porcelain teeth, will I have to have painful surgery or will I just have to have false teeth. I would travel to England for treatment
A. You need to make sure that you don’t have gum disease. This could be a reason for your recession and tooth loss. It is possible to have porcelain teeth placed on your existing ones and implants where you have lost the teeth. If they have been missing for a while, bone grafts may be necessary. We would only be able to tell by seeing you and taking x-rays.
Implant placement is not painful and neither is bone grafting as everything is done under local anaesthetic. If you are nervous then sedation can be offered so that you don’t remember any of the treatment. You are sore and a little swollen afterwards.
If you are going to travel to the UK to have the treatment done and you would like to come for a consultation we can arrange for transportation from the airport to the practice. If you are interested in coming for a consultation it would be better to e-mail the practice at komal@smiledesigndental.co.uk and the appointment and travel arrangements can be made

Q. Over the last 12 months, I have lost all but 3 of my bottom teeth. I have dentures which are awful looking and ill fitting. I asked my dentist about cosmetic dentures, but am not sure he understood exactly the type I want, as he told me they would cost between £300 – £500, yet looking at internet sites they seem a lot more expensive. The type I am thinking of are the sort seen on tv shows such as 10 yrs younger. What sort of cost would I be looking at please.
A. There are two types of cosmetic denture. One with porcelain teeth and one with acrylic teeth. The dentures with acrylic teeth cost between £1200 to £1500 each. This means that for an upper and lower set of teeth would be up tp £3000. The dentures with porcelain teeth cost between £6000 to £10000 for upper and lower dentures. Porcelain teeth are harder wearing and can look more realistic but are heavier and can feel slightly heavier than acrylic teeth. If you are going to have these types of dentures made it is best to find a cosmetic dentist that does dentures regularly for patients.
The other option to dentures is implants and these can retain a full arch bridge which is fixed so you won’t need to remove it at night.
The cost of the treatment would vary depending on how many implants are needed. If you want to investigate this option further the best thing to do is have a consultation with an implant dentist so that you have all the options
I hope this helps
Kind Regards
