Can I Have My Tooth Polished So It Doesn’t Feel Rough?

Thursday, March 5th, 2015
Q.

Hi. I had a filling done on my tooth and the dentist put a clamp over it and scratched the surface, leaving it feeling rough. Next time I was in I mentioned it and he buffed the tooth surface. Now the whole thing feels rough and a bit sensitive. The rest of my teeth are smooth and shiny feeling, can it be fixed? Or is my tooth now completely damaged and irreparable? Will this lead to my tooth decaying and having to be removed? Many thanks in advance.

I Have Worn Dentures For Over Fifty Years But I’m Not Happy With The Texture Of My New Flexible Dentures. Could I Have Them Polished?

Thursday, February 20th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I currently have a top set (8 teeth) of flexible dentures, they have a strange texture and seem furry to me. They make eating most food quite an unpleasant experience. Can they be polished or are all flexible dentures like this? I have worn dentures for over fifty years so I am not a novice with dentures I have had several sets of cobalt dentures which I have been pleased with, but needing new dentures I have read good reports about the flexible dentures but now I really regret not going for the cobalt ones. Thank you for taking the time and listening to my problem.

After I Had My Teeth Sand Blasted, They Feel Rough. Should I Have Them Polished Or Will It Damage The Enamel Further?

Friday, February 14th, 2014
Q.

Hi, Dr Hughes. I hope you can help me. I had my teeth cleaned they used a sandblast to clean them. I did not have much staining but they said it is really good. Since I had it done my teeth feel very rough and not much shine on them any more I went back as my teeth looked very frosted, he polished the two top teeth up which now feel smooth an silky but all the sides of teeth still same feel rough and full of dirt which I never had before. Will I be better getting them polished up or has he damaged the enamel from the sandblast treatment I had done? Please help me with this, it’s really bugging me.

My Porcelain Crowns Are Too Big For My Liking. Can I Have Them Shaped And Polished Without Damaging Them?

Thursday, January 9th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr. Moore. I recently got porcelain crowns on my front two teeth. I think they look a little big. Can they be shaped now that they are in place? I have always hated my two front teeth because they looked too big and I would preferably like them much smaller. I was hoping that the crowns would have made them look smaller. If they try and shape them now will it dull them and is there any chance of them cracking or breaking? Any advice you can provide will be very helpful and I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

I Feel Silly Going Back To My Dentist A Third Time, Why Didn’t My Dentist Polish It When I Went Back A Second Time?

Friday, September 13th, 2013
Q.

Earlier this week I had two top front crowns replaced however when I got home I realised that one crown was longer on one site. I went back the next day and my dentist filed some of the crown down , a little too much if I’m being honest but he made me feel so silly for coming back I did not feel like I could say anything so I just left.

The problem is the filed tooth feels so rough and sharp and I am constantly aware of it when I talk as it rubs on my upper lip and tongue, but I feel too silly to go back again. My question is should my dentist have polished my tooth or something else in order to smooth it out? Thank you.

How often should an x-ray be used during routine check-up? Should I request one?

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010
Q.
How often should x-ray be used during routine check-ups? I have been going to my current dentist for 15 years for 6 monthly checks with cleaning and polishing. He asks me if I have any problems (which I dont at present) but I have a lot of very old fillings, some I reckon over 40 years! I cant remember the last time my teeth were xrayed, should I request this next time? Many thanks,

Can you recommend any treatment that can get rid of the white marks on my teeth?

Thursday, April 15th, 2010
Q.
I have these white, almost chalk-like in appearance, marks on my teeth that I find to be embarrassing. I went into a dental clinic, once in the past, to get Zoom Teeth Whitening done…and the Doctor wasn’t sure whether the treatment would make the chalk white marks disappear or possibly make them brighter. I was wondering if you could suggest a treatment that would rid me of the annoying teeth marks.,
