Is an implant suitable for filling a gap in my bottom teeth?

Thursday, December 6th, 2012
Q.

I have a gap in bottom teeth, can I get an implant or what else do you suggest I do to solve this? I have severe receding gums I just want a nice smile. I’ve been to the dentists but the plaque builds up quicker than ever. No amount of brushing fixes this. The gap in my teeth started 10 years ago and now looks as if I’m missing a tooth. The other teeth next to the gap are starting to slope and look crooked. Please advice on what I can do and how much it would cost? Thank you

What can you suggest to help me beat my dental phobia so I can receive treatment?

I haven’t been to a Dentist in 10 years or more. I am very Dentist phobic, I am an ex smoker. My teeth are very stained, I have a huge build up of plaque. I’m pretty sure I have some form of gum disease. I have a couple of teeth that feel as if they are shifting/loosening bottom front. I have a couple of back teeth that are broken. I’m really not sure how many of my teeth can be saved. My Daughter is getting married in August and I really need to get my teeth sorted once and for all. I’m ashamed of the state I have let my teeth get into. Would it be possible to have them all sorted before August if I could pluck up the courage to go. Also would a cosmetic Dentist be able to do the work if most of my teeth couldn’t be saved? Thank you.

What can I do to prevent plaque build-up on teeth with periodontal conditions?

Q.

I am 69 years old and have quite severe gum disease. I brush my teeth twice daily and floss before going to bed every night. I go to the dentist every six months but can’t prevent plaque building up. It’s getting to the point where my lower teeth will have to be removed. Can I do anything to save them at this stage?

I went through a patch of depression and neglected brushing, now I think my teeth are loose, what problem do I have?

Q.

Hi thanks for your time i am due at my dentist in march ( appointments booked) i went through a very bad patch of depression recently lasting 8 months where i basically let my health run down my diet, eating habbits, and oral hygiene i basically missed about 274 days of brushing im ashamed to admit however i did at points use mouth wash whenever i didnt brush ( im very ashamed of lack of oral hygiene during this time) recently ( since nov / dec time) i have got back into a routine where i have started brushing occasionally flossing and motuh washing ( cortisol gum mouth wash) basically i have noticed in last few weeks ( aprox 12 day ish) i have noticed when i touch my tongue against my teeth usually bottom front they “click” or rather feel like they move however this is not noticeable when i check in mirror my fiance tried wiggling my tooth with his fingers and said “nope thats not going anywhere thats in there” when i try the tooth with my fingers it doesnt move either i just hear a click which i inaudiable to anyone else. i have noticed a vast improvement in my gums of late and they dont seem to be bleeding as much if at all when i brush should i be worried about the “clicking/movement” or is this normal when bad teeth as i call them start getting healthier. Thanks again and any advice you can give would be appreciated

Ps my fiancee says he has noticed ive been grinding my teeth occasionally in my sleep could this be another factor of “clicking/moving” ?

I have noticed a sulphur or rotten egg smell in my mouth since I got veneers, why is this?

Q.
I have noticed a sulphur or rotten egg smell in my mouth since I got veneers. I am having dental cleanings every 3 months and practice good oral hygiene at home. I didn’t have this problem before the veneers what can I do? I am told that the veneers can not be removed altogether but can be replaced without 100% guarantee that the smell will go away. I now have a great smile but the trade off was not worth it. I’m devestated!,
