Q. Hi, I have full upper dentures, I have had them for years. I am 41, and would like to know if it is possible for me to consider
dental implants? I seem to find conflicting advice on the Internet, and I am unsure if it is worth pursuing any further. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks
A. Hello , It will be possible to place implants but you may need the bone rebuilding prior to the implant placement if the teeth have been missing for a long time. The next thing to do is to find a dentist to assess you and to arrnage a CT scan to measure the exact amount of bone available for implants to decide what can be acheived. let me know if you’d like me to take a look- implant@advancedentalclinic.comregards Andrew

Q. I have had a root filling and a gold cap put over the tooth. The tooth keeps getting infected and it may be better to have it out. I have a 5 tooth bridge one tooth away form from the cap and if nothing is replaced it could undermine the bridge. Ive been told that a good option is to have an implant but the cost is 2,000 which i cannot afford can it be done chaeper or have you got any suggestions?
A. That is a reasonable cost for an implant. The only other option would be a denture if there is not a tooth either side of the gap

Q. I am due to begin work for a full upper denture on 17/11 due to the loss of all byt 4 of my upper teeth. This was due to
gum disease causing bone loss, passed down from my parents! My dentist tells me that an implant to fix a denture in would not stay put due to bone loss? Is this correct? Glad I found this site, and someone to answer my question, thank you!
A. Implants can usually be placed but you may need bone grafting to increase the amount of bone available

Q. Hello I had ValPlast dentures fitted and got a pain in the upper gums on wearing them. I persevered before 4 months before I had a tooth pulled from that side and thought it might be the reason and it would get better over time. Now the other side hurts as well. Sometimes one side hurts and I can chew on the other and another time the other side hurts. I thought it might be cavitations? I recently did a heavy metal detox. Do you have any idea what could be causing this?
A. Your bite may need to be evened out to prevent excessive pressure on any one part

Q. I currently wear dentures but the lower was originally made with a bar on a few of my teeth; but then one side came out of the gum; so the dentist removed the other side; so I’ve been wearing the lower using the pad. Now, I did go to a dentist who made a new complete set; however, I can not wear them-the lower-the first time the front teeth was almost laid out flat; so I couldn’t bite, chew, talk or sing; so he had it redone & then it was straight up way back behind my top; so I can’t chew-they just sit in the container. What should I do? They were very expensive to not be worn. The dentist did offer to refund half ot the money but at that time I refused. Should I sue him because if I call or go by; there is usually no one there.
A. You should be aware that lower dentures often cause a problem for patients because ther is no plate to support them . If you need more stability the best option is 2 or 3 implants in the lower jaw to support the lower denture- It is unlikely to be the fault of your dentist and as such does not deserve to be sued

Q. I have just been told that my remaining teeth need to be removed and have both upper and lower dentures. I am considering implants but at this time the cost is an issue. I would like an opinion on whether to pay the extra for non nhs dentures in the interim or to have nhs dentures until next year when I can have the implants. Thank You
A. I would guess Private dentures should be a better fit but this depends on who makes them. Implants will provide you with greater stability to the dentures or even fixed teeth. They might be worth paying for in the long run for extra comfort and confidence

Q. Hello Dr Moore, I am 42 years old. I had my mouth half full with crowns by 20 yrs old. By 34, many were needing to be replaced. I begged the dentist to give me an upper plate. I made a good case and I got it. He made me 4 or 5 before I got a good fit. I still have to use a large amount of Fixodent daily to keep it in. Now, at 42 I have had most of my bottom teeth extracted and Im down to 5 in the front. THere are no other teeth/replacements on the bottom at all. The plan is to remove the 5th tooth and I will be left with 4 in the front, and get a partial bottom plate. And make a new top plate to fix the new bite. How will the teeth in the back stay down? I will need to glue down with fixodent? Will it somehow hook on to my front teeth? People Ive known with this, had hooks onto back teeth which I do not have. Please let me know. At this point I just want to be able to chew again.
A. Anything put into the lower jaw will help you to chew although a denture is very difficult to wear if there are only a few teeth to anchor it in place. You might want to consider a denture held in place with
dental implants this maybe your best solution in the lower jaw in the long term

Q. I have two large front teeth and absolutely detest them. its giving me really low self esteem and i would really like to do something about them. What are my options and honestly how much will this kind of treatment cost? My two front teeth are longer than my “wedding finger nail” (short) just to give you a rough idea. im getting increasingly depressed about it what can i do?
A. The cost depends on what you have done. If they need veneers this will normally cost from around £500 per tooth. If the teeth need removal then you could be looking at £500 for a small denture or £4000 for fixed implant supported crowns.

Q. Hi Dr Moore,I would like to ask you what I can do in my situation.I start a full mouths restauration last year,I already pay 10 .000 pounds .all the
extraction been done, manage to have 6 implants on my upper jaw as well; still have four off mynteeths on upper jaw who need crowns,on my lower jaw just four teeths on the front. Now my circumstances change,I m on benefit I have a Hc2 certificate wich is not seems to help me much.I am stuck in the midle with a temporarty bridge wich is not even done properly because my dentist not pay any interes any more.My dentist even sugest to have the implants extracted and have ba denture instead wich I think is ridiculos.Anyway what I want to ask is if I have any chance to finish the work with a private dentist and pay the diference for the abutments for example.
A. I’m sure you would be able to find someone who will be happy to finish the work for you. It would be very useful for them to know the type and sizes of implants used so the correct components can be ordered. Unfortunatley none of this treatment is available on the NHS so your NC2 cert isn’t any use. Let me know if you’d like me to take a look Regards
Andrew

Q. Good afternoon,I have just visited a dentist who says that I need
root canal surgery, and prescribed antibiotics because of an abcess.I had an upper bridge 10 teeth fitted 5yrs ago, though not by him, and have been told that I am about to lose all of my teeth, plus the bridge. I am at my wits end. I will not contemplate dentures, and need advise on implants. Please help
A. Options for replacing mising teeth are
1. bridges
2. dentures
3. implants.
Implants are a great way of replacing missing teeth. My advice would be to see an experienced implant dentist to provide you options.

Q. I have one missing front tooth & currently a single tooth denture that I am not happy with. I have been told I can have a replacement tooth glued to the adjoining tooth instead. I am told this is a successful procedure although not often used. What do you think?
A. It might work in the short term but an implant might be a better long term solution

Q. Hi After years of neglect ,all my top teeth have badly decayed ,and broken off . Im so embarrassed about this ,and hence cant face a dentist because of the shame that I let my teeth get into this state. Unfortunately I cant afford private ,so will have to go nhs , I would like to know what is available ,as I know I am probably going to have to have them all taken out and have dentures, but I have been told nhs wont cover this? Also ,what would you advise me to tell the dentist before my appointment ,as I want to let him know the state my mouth is in before he actually sees them ,im so depressed about this and really need some help .
A. You will be able to get denture treatment on the NHS. I would be worried about what the dentist might say, thats our job to fix peoples teeth and we are very used to seeing less than perfect mouths!

Q. Hi, i was wondering if a real tooth can be a replacement for a dental implant rather than titanium?
A. Thanks for your question, the titanium rod is placed into the jawbone but has a natural looking false tooth over the top of it. If you wish to avoid having the titanium rod placed, then you would need to have either a bridge (attached to either one of or both of the teeth either side of the gap) or a denture to fill the gap left by your missing tooth. I hope that this helps.
Kindest Regards

Q. I’m quite young, Actually just 21! I used to always hate going to the dentist when i was little so i had Pretty teeth in the front but horrible ones in the back. When i finally went to one when i was 16 he did 4 root canals on 2 of my back teeth on both sides. I had medicaid at the time and didn’t tell me that medicaid wouldn’t pay for the rest so basically i couldnt do anything about it. From then on i had to get 2 back teeth pulled (on the same side) which doesn’t bother me.. I’m goin to have to get the other teeth pulled soon and some on top in the back. My question is. well my front teeth are decaying and almost gone. What are my options that i can get done. I will save up the money to pay for it but just trying to get info on what i should be getting done! and its about 4 teeth up front! Thanks so much for your time!
A. It depends on the extent of the decay if the teteh can be saved
root canal treatmnet and crowns may be an option, if the decay is quite shallow you might be able to have fillings. if the teeth need to be removed your options are dentures, bridges or
dental implants.
