What Medication Should I Expect To Receive After Root Canal Treatment?

Thursday, May 2nd, 2013
Q.

I am going in to see a dentist today for root canal treatment. The last time I saw the dentist was about 5 days ago and have had massive headaches and sharp pains in both my face and the infected tooth. The dentist prescribed lortabs until I get to see him again for the actual root canal treatment. Is it typical for a dentist to prescribe something stronger then tylenol after I get a root canal done if I have been having a lot of pain thus far with it? I’m scared to go in today and not be able to get adequate relief pain wise. What would you advise? I know he’s a dentist and knows what he’s talking about but the other medication just did not seem to work and I haven’t even had the treatment yet. Thank you for your time and help, regards.

My Bridge is Affecting A Nearby Filled Tooth, What Can Be Done?

Friday, March 15th, 2013
Q.

hi there, i have recently been fitted with a maryland bridge just (3rd from the last tooth at the upper back). The tooth was missing for over 20 years so i have suffered from quite severe gum recession in this area. the tooth next to the bridge has a large filling and since the bridge, I have had nothing but pain, sensitivity and more pain. It is not even like I can pin an exact cause or anything either because the pain comes with pretty much everything in my day to day life. So like it will come with pressure, with any food or drink that is hot, cold, warm, anything that contains even a little bit of sugar, it’s everything. I’ve been back 6 times and the filling changed but this has made no difference. Should I ask for the bridge to be removed?

I Had A Crown On A Twisted Tooth Now It Is Infected And Causing Pain, Should I Have Had Root Canal Treatment Beforehand?

Monday, March 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi,

My front tooth was very twisted so had some by drilling some of the tooth away and a crown, which looks much better. This was done privately as it was for cosmetic reasons. About 18months later I have had pain and infections but doesnt show up on X-rays. I have been suffering with this for about a year as the dentist just kept saying clean better as there is a pocket that food can get into. I clean thoroughly and regularly and it doesnt help and am still suffering. I was given antibiotics eventually but it didnt work at alll. I have continual pain and much discomfort when I speak. The dentist has recommended specialist root canal treatment but he said due to the very thin root he cannot do it himself. I am normaly an NHS patient so this is becoming very expensive for me. This makes me question should I have been given root canal treatment before the crown?

I would very much appreciate your help.  Thank you.

For my painful third molar should I get the tooth removed or get a crown?

Friday, December 21st, 2012
Q.

Dear Respected Dr Safeer Butt,

I am in immense pain and was very lucky to come across your highly informative, very caring and educating article/ web page.

I am by no means a person who knows teeth or their issues. I am almost 45 years old , diabetic for 10+ years. and have taken just modest care of my teeth. But I was blessed with a simple dietary style and a good mother who breast fed me ( I have heard and believe that breast feeding does provide good teeth and good development of bones and muscles in mouth)

I go to doctors and dentists regularly, I get regular cleaning / scaling and dental exams, since I am a disabled person , I get basic dental coverage .
In June and July 2012 , I had lot of dental issues , dentist did procedure , fillings, but now ever since June I have unbearable sensitivity .

Now I am out , of my country, I am with no dental coverage, all of a sudden I am in unbearable pain, and I can clearly see that my third molar from upper right is aching, feeling broken, tender, in burning pain, and loose
What should I do, If I approach a dentist , here , while I am out of US , should I get the tooth out , should I get a crown, is there any thing that a very very proficient and concerned dental surgeon like you would advice. should I pass the time by using pain killers till I get back,

I would very anxiously wait for your help and feed back

Thanking You

I have a shooting pain from a cracked molar, why is this happening?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011
Q.

I have 4 wisdom teeth that are not fully erupted and are impacted. they have been bothering me for about 3 years now. I have to wait to see a dentist for a month and i have an upper right cracked molar next to the wisdom tooth that also is painful.I have been experiencing sharp, electricity shooting pain throught the right side of my face and body out the cracked molar .What is going on to me? It happens out of the blue. I have told the dentist when I first saw him and he didnt answer to what I have asked him. I cant bare with the pain any longer. It is worst then giving birth to a child.

Can I have teeth extracted and replaced with implants instead of root canal?

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011
Q.

I have chronic dental pain in all of my molars (lower and upper) bilaterally. I do have several fillings which will probably need to be replaced and seem to be headed towards root canals in all of these teeth. I also have 2 root canals that are both failing and also very painful so I am reluctant to have more root canal therapy on the other teeth as it seems pointless having them done when they will most likely fail like the other two. I’ve been seen by a professor at a specialist dental hospital and they said my failing root canals would be best replaced by an implant. Is it possible to have most of my molars and two premolars extracted and the teeth replaced with implants instead? How much would this be likely to cost?
