My teeth were straight until my wisdom teeth started to come through, how can I resolve this problem?

Monday, August 13th, 2012
Q.

Hi there.

My teeth used to be perfectly straight until my wisdom teeth started growing in.

They are unable to grow properly because there isn’t enough room. Now I have a distinct overlap in my front two teeth. I have been advised that if I have my wisdom teeth removed then this may help resolve the problem – is this correct?

I am getting married in May 2013 and I was wondering how long it would take to straighten them and how much it would cost.

Thank you.

Can my overbite be fixed with dental veneers?

Monday, August 6th, 2012
Q.

I have an overbite. Both my top and bottom teeth jut out. I’ve been having on and off ortho work done for years and years. But turns out my doctor was a quack. And they are still not fixed. They are due to the fact that my teeth r just too big for my mouth. My bottom teeth are very close together not fully overlapping but the edges are very close and slightly overlap each other. I want to know if this all can be fixed with veneers. All the jutting, the crowdedness, all of it and I’m willing for them to shave down my teeth for as long as my lips fall on my teeth a lot nicer when closing and for a gorgeous smile. Can this happen? What do I ask for?

Is Invisalign the best treatment to straighten my top teeth?

Monday, January 23rd, 2012
Q.

I’ve a slight overcrowding on my top set causing a front tooth to overlap (from centre, 3rd over 2nd). So only cosmetically am i wanting treatment (similar to Holly Willoughbys i’m thinking). I’m not interested in any visibly obvious braces due to my age (21). I’ve already tried my local Dentist/Orthodontist who only offer old fashioned methods. I’ve heard of Invisalign but i’m aware they’d mean many visits as they’re a course. I’m willing to travel for decent results but unable to committ for something over demanding. I’d also prefer speedy work! Please advise where best to start.Thank you.

How can I correct my overlapping teeth?

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes,

I have noticed that my right hand front tooth is starting to slightly overlap the other tooth and I am wondering what my options are to correct this. Obviously I am not keen on a permanent brace which would be installed for a year or more, I notice the 6 month option on this website.

For your information, as a child I had several teeth removed due to overcrowding, I believe 6-8 teeth were removed, this involved a hospital over night stay and general anaesthetic.

I presume I am best to address this as soon as possible before it becomes a more significant overlap.

Any advice you can offer would be appreciated.

My buck teeth are a pain in the neck. Can you help?

Q.

Im 37yrs old. over time my two front teeth have been pushed upwards, creating a upside v, but have not overlapped. I think the cause of this was a wisdom tooth, which took many years to come through. Ive since just recently had it removed, and asked my dentist advise if my two front teeth could be straighten. He didnt think a orthodontist could help, and said having them filled or even veneers would solve the problem. i was really hoping he would of refered me to a orthodontist instead, but as he doesnt know any near where i live (my dentist is in Leeds, which im there every so often, but i live in London).. i feel my only option is to have what he has said, but im in two minds if thats what i actually want.. hope you can help.. many thanks

Unstable teeth are starting to Cross. Can you assist?

Monday, May 9th, 2011
Q.

Hi

Over the last few years I have noticed that the space between my top two front incisors has gradually been decreasing. Originally I had a sizeable gap, about 4-5mm, this has now decreased to the extent where they are begining to overlap. I am in my early 40’s.

My main question is what is causing the change after all these years of stable teeth, is it something to do with ageing and will it get worse?

Secondly what possible solutions are there? since my teens I have had partially errupted wisdom teeth, as well as an extra partially formed canine on the left (assuming you’re only meant to have one on each side, my siblings both had 2 per side)

Any help, advice or information would be very useful to decide what to do next, thank you.

I have two overlapping teeth which cause one to protrude, what treatment do you advise?

2 of my front teeth are overlapping …i think through being crowded. Other than that my teeth are fine. Do u think stb lingual braces would be suitable…and how much do you think it would cost around….its only the one tooth at the front that has been squeezed out. Thanks

What advice do you have for wisdom teeth that have forced teeth to overlap?

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011
Q.

Please could you advise what to do when you have a canine tooth in this case my right, that has grown on top of or at least slightly overlapping the teeth surrounding it. My mouth is small and as my wisdom teeth have emerged all my previously straight teeth bottom and top are becoming more uneven. I would like to have braces perhaps but don’t know if an extraction bottom and top would be required before straightening could start. I would also like to have some whitening done but not sure if it is best to wait until the other problems are sorted first. I have never shown my teeth in a photograph and try not to laugh or smile as i feel it looks bad. If you have any advice i would be grateful.

Could overlapping teeth be the cause of my wobbly teeth?

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011
Q.

I have two front bottom teeth that wobble but not lose enough to come out, one of them cross the other which is why i think they are wobbly do you think a brace would help.
thank you.
