I have a reverse overbit and need it corrected. Can I do it on the NHS?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Q.

I am turning 18 this summer and starting university away from home this year.
I have a reverse overbite and have previously had braces, however my teeth have relapsed from a period without retainers.
I feel my bite has changed, as I now find it difficult to close my mouth without catching my cheeks in the process and find that my speech has changed as a result.

As a prospective medical student, I feel this will damage my confidence, especially when communicating with my patients and also personally.

I have researched the proceedures available and am aware and prepared for the commitment and post-operative care.
Do you think I am a suitable candidate for corrective surgery, who would I need to talk to, how long will the treatment take and would it be available to me on the NHS?

Thankyou Very much for your time!

Is there treatment for an overbite available on the NHS?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Q.

I was just wondering if there is any treatment for an overbite available on the NHS? I have had braces for five years, and yet my my smile is still awful, to the extent where I don’t like smiling or laughing. And is there a way to make a nice smile without surgery? Thanks for the help.

Could I have ceramic braces placed on my top teeth and metal braces attched to my bottom teeth?

Thursday, November 18th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr, I’d like to wear ceramic braces, but my dentist say that because when I bite my bottom teeth go behind my top ones, they could damage my top teeth. My question is: should i wear metal braces at the bottom and ceramic at the top? Thank you,

Could I have the herbst appliance with damon braces to treat overbite?

Friday, October 8th, 2010
Q.
Hi I’m going to be 20 in a couple of months time but I have overbite of about 6-7mm. I had braces when I was younger but my treatment was never completed and my teeth have since shifted again and now need a brace to re-straighten them, but my overbite is the problem that concerns me the most as it’s horribly noticable to me. Would the Herbst appliance with Damon braces be the best treatment for me? If so, which orthodontic surgeries offer the Herbst? I live in Kent, so travelling to London wouldn’t be a big problem. Thanks for any help in advance!,
