Could my daughters teeth be treated without extractions?

Friday, March 18th, 2011
Q.

I am directing this question to you specifically, as I have read a little on the affects of some procedures on facial asthetics/profile, and have been concerned. That you are clearly aware and interested in these points makes me hope that you may be able to guide us a little?… My daughter is 16, and her two front teeth protrude/tip forward. This is by 8mm, we have been informed, but there is otherwise no problem with her teeth. The rest of them are beautifully alligned, and her oral hygene has always been exceptional so the condition of her teeth and gums is also extremely good.

Prior to moving, we were told by our dentist that a brace would be needed for 8mths, with no extractions. A different dentist then said her teeth were not ‘bad’ enough to warrent a brace. Her new dentist has suggested 2 extractions (of perfectly healthy and perfectly alligned teeth, futher back in her jaw), and a fitted brace for 18-24mths. He has suggested this is her only option, and will not discuss otherwise.

I have now read many research papers, and also many sites claiming success for different procedures. There is support that from 16yrs, a female’s structue is no longer pliable, and contrary reports that the structure of adults of any age is malable to a degree.

My daughters teeth may be seen from different angles in photos at the bottom of this page (copy & paste): My question is this, in your opinion, is it possible that only extraction and a fixed brace are available as a route for her, or could INVISALIGN/INMAN; DAMON SYSTEM; LINGUAL BRACES or even the HOMEOBLOCK be viable options?

I am concerned that removing teeth and having a conventional brace fitted would result in VERTICAL GROWTH, and therefore possibly ruin a budding career, and would very much appreciate an honest response regarding these points… any further info./suggestion is obviously welcome, and your opinion is highly valued. Thank you in advance for your time.

I am having issues with my orthodontist, what should I do?

Friday, March 18th, 2011
Q.

I have a missing 2 teeth from birth, (its the second tooth next to my big front tooth on each side)
all my teeth was moved together so no gaps were left, this is when I was small whilest living in a different country. I have had braces put in for the last 2years and 5 month.
The dentist took my baby teeth out , which were behid my canines. Now the orthodontist was meant to move my canines into the corect place, which is almost finished, but she created masive overbite. ( which I didnt have before), my top teeth completely covers the lower ones. She basickly moved my front teeth forward so much to creat the gap for a bridge, not moving my canines much. I do not like it , Shouldn`t she fix this? Most people would have braces put to correct what she created.
Is there any chance I can change to another orthodontist. Unfortunatelly my dentist send me to this one even though I should have been reffered to dental hospital and have my treatmet for free & done be top orthodontist.
Please can you tell me what I can do? Can I go to dental hopital to have it corected?
Many thank.

My daughters braces pushed back her teeth, can this be rectified?

Friday, February 25th, 2011
Q.

My daughter has had braces on in the Dominican Republic for just about 3 years and now she has had the top set taken off I visited a different dentist for fitting of a retainer. It has come to light that her teeth have been ‘pushed back’ as the braces were not correctly applied. Please can you advise if the teeth will naturally ‘move forward’ or if there is treatment to correct this. The new dentist wants to reapply the bottom brace to close some gaps but says she can’t correct the ‘push back’. I am also locating a lawyer for the malpractice of the initial dentist. Your advise is much appreciated.

My teeth are crooked, what can i do to straighten them?

Friday, February 11th, 2011
Q.

I am now 37 and all through my life and two pregnancies my dentist said I had very healthy teeth. Now I have 6 very crooked teeth on the bottom and they cross over alot. I am very concerned about it and try not too show them so when I smile I just raise the corners of my mouth. Also my front two teeth have always been fab but now they are looking transparent and have visible lines that I notice when I look in the mirror. My dentist said it was due to my age! Please help and tell me what can be done to straighten my crooked teeth. They cross over by nearly a third in 1 or 2 places so I think braces is out of the question.

What are my best options to straighten my teeth, preferably as quickly and discretely as possible?

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011
Q.

I am 38 years old and had braces when I was 19. I wore my retainer faithfully for about 2 years, and was very happy with the outcome. Every month or so I would try on my retainer, and if it felt tight to get on, I would wear it for a week or so. I have noticed lately that my teeth aren’t as straight as they once were, and my retainer won’t even fit around my teeth. What are my best options to restraighten them – I really want something fast, and as invisable as possible – cost is not a problem.
Thanks you.

I have been told braces would make my TMJ worse. What are my options to straighten them?

Monday, December 6th, 2010
Q.

Hi, I’ve always been very self-conscious about my crooked front teeth. So I decided to have braces. The orthodontist told me that I will need 4 bicuspid tooth extraction. My parents were against it but agree to let me make my own decision. But unfortunately, just a few days ago, I found out that I might have TMJ disorders so I went on asking about it and found it was true. I have TMJ. And some even said that bicuspid extraction will actually cause TMJ to severe. So in the end I had decided not to have braces. But right now I’m still feeling very upset about my teeth. How can I straighten it a little? Braces is definitely out of the question. I just want to make it look better a little, is there anything I can do?
