What is a cheap way to treat discoloured and misaligned teeth?

Friday, January 15th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I am a 20 year old college student and since middle school, my teeth have been severely discolored and unaligned. Everyday I wish for a better smile, but I always come to the conclusion that this is how mother nature made my teeth look. I want to live confidently knowing I have a beautiful smile so now I am seeking any way possible to achieve this. Unfortunately, veneers and lumineers and braces are all very expensive. Where can I found an inexpensive, beautiful, and happy smile?,

Can I not get braces if I have gum disease?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Caplan, I am a 23yr old female with severe gum disease. As a teen I had been initially refused orthodontic treatment on the NHS, due to the poor condition of my gums. I had lost faith in my dental care and hid away from my dental problems. As an adult I now realise how much my teeth have affected me mentally. I am so depressed about my crowded and crooked teeth, I find it hard to talk to people let alone smile incase they notice my ugly teeth. I have become a social recluse and feel so alone because of being scared to show my teeth. Since my teens I have had a patchwork of different work done by different dentists and my mouth now looks a mess. There are badly fitted miscoloured crowns on my UL2 and UR1. However, my gums have improved a lot. They are now a pinkier shade, compared with the liver red that it used to be. Also, the teeth and gums are a lot less sensitive. Do you think that there is any chance that I could get treated privately? Will private dentists/orthodontists refuse to treat me due to my gum disease? Or is that just an excuse for the NHS to refuse me due to their overstretched waiting lists? I am grateful for your reply, as I feel so lost and desperately want to sort out my teeth once and for all.,

Are there any alternatives for straightening crooked teeth?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hello, i’ve got a problem, My two front teeth they are kind of crooked, the front tooth on the right is overlapping the left hand tooth. And also my canines are sticking out of the gum. More pushed out more than anything. What would you insist on doing? Bracers is one option, but is it possible to get a brace that is removable, for example: Like a retainer or something like that? Because i’ll admit I am completely ashamed of my looks. Teeth wise anyway. And I like my teeth their clean and healthy. I just couldnt see my self wearing a brace in clear daylight. So maybe is their something I can get that i can take off instead of a permanent brace.,

What options are there for tooth gap?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hello I am waiting to have a root canal done because my right front tooth is dead and slightly discoloured. After I will have clear step braces to close the gap between my two front teeth. The Clearstep practitioner said that i would need to wait 6 months after having the root canal treatment, to have the braces in, is this true? I really want the gap closed asap. I would like to know if there is something I can do which is inexpensive and quick to hide the gap until I can have this done.,

Can braces treat overlapping teeth?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
My top set of teeth tilt slightly to the right, so that they overlap my bottom set. If I were to bite so that my front top & bottom were touching, then I would have a big gap inbetween the top and bottom on the left, but not on the right. I was told by my a dentist many years ago that this was called a ‘side-bite’ & could be easily corrected by orthodontic treatment? I didn’t follow it up at the time but I’m growing more and irritated by my horrible teeth! My teeth are also quite wonky but that can be sorted with braces. Could you tell me if my problem is easily treatable? I want to keep the treatment as natural as possible (such as braces) because I don’t want something that won’t last and that I will have to fork out to replace in 10/20 years time. Thank You,

Treatment for missing teeth that are causing me misery?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hi there, I am 21 years old and had braces when I was around 19. I used to live in Spain and had them put on and checked rugularly when I lived there. After about 9 months of having them on I moved back to London and therefore didnt really complete the procedure as its was hard getting to Spain because of work etc. I had 2 teeth removed so there are two large gaps on my top gum. My bottom teeth never had a brace as theyre alright, I had it basically to push my teeth back into my mouth. So now my teeth are a little more pushed in but Ive got these two big gaps. I am really uphappy and it’s really affecting my life more than anybody could imagine. I dont want to smile or laugh I hate having my picture taken and am scared people will see I’ve got missing teeth. I work full time but doubt I’ll be able to afford the procedure to fix my teeth. What do you advise? Many thanks,,

Is inman aligner best option for me?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr Glaister, My teeth are straight, except for one top lateral incisor which is rotated. I never considered braces, since i only need one tooth corrected. I don’t want a veneer because i don’t want to shave down an otherwise healthy tooth. I recently heard of the Inman aligner and thought I may be a candidate for that, but I notice Simpli5 is a similar price, I’m not sure which is better for me? Also, simpli5 seems to be a similar system to Invisalign but is far cheaper, is there a catch i should know about?,
