What are the factors to be considered before having dentures?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Q. hi I would just like to know about the metal chrome cobalt denture -the factors that need to be considered before the denture is prepared. thankyou

A. This seems like a question a dentist would ask.  Broadly speaking you need to assess the patients general health.  Then local factors such as bone pathology, gum health, tooth health.  Finally design needs to be considered such as path of insertion, clasping, pretreatment tooth adjustment etc

Could you suggest any other method other than opalesense whitening and gum shields?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Q. I have been using the Opalesence whitening and have been wearing the gum shields and using the gel for over a week now every other night. However my teeth are extremely sensitive at the minute and I am considering other methods. I dont notice much difference in my teeth either.

A. hi many thanks for your email, the whitening will work it is however a time thing. if the teeth are sensitive i would use the follow regime:

do the whitening twice daily for an hour each time for two weeks you will see a definate difference.

hope this is helpful.

Should I go for whitening or veneer for the tooth which had root treatment?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Q. I had root treatment on one of my front teeth years ago and the tooth has gone grey, would whitening help or would a veneer be preferable, if so how much would one veneer cost? Thanks

A. hi many thanks for your email, the gery tooth can be treated by internal whitening but this is sometimes unpredictable and even if the tooth whitens sometimes the colour can reverse.

the veneer is more predictable and long term, the cost of a single tooth veneer can range from £500 – £1200. dependant on where you go. my charge is usually £750.

hope this is helpful.

Is there a private dentist to treat our son who has abscess?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Q. Hi, our son has special needs (learning difficulties etc). We have seen the community dentist who wants to give him G.A and remove all his teeth that have cavities/ gone bad. We’ re not happy with this- we feel any tooth that can be filled should be!! We’re wondering if there’s a private dentist that would treat our son, and keep as many teeth as poss!! He’s waited 6 months already for an appt to have a bad tooth removed that we know has had an abcess on it!! Please help!!

A. hi many thanks for your email, the issue is how cooperative your son is while having dental treatment and what age he is. other options are sedation for treatment but he does need to be a minimum age of 16. hope this is helpful. i would be happy to assess your son and give you some more options that are available in the private sector.

I hav two caps joined together Is dat a good idea?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Q. I had 2 caps done that I wasn’t really sure about the way they did it. That is, they joined the two teeth together, rather than making them individual caps. The first go around they were individual caps but alot of food was getting stuck in between and so they join them…I’m not sure I like that idea…two caps joined together, what do you think?

A. May be a good idea if the height of the underlying teeth is poor or the teeth are mobile

Could you advise on whether I will be able to straighten teeth after implants?

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Q. I have been advised that I a lower molar needs to be extracted and replaced with an implant. Can you please advise whether I would still be able to wear braces to straighten the rest of my teeth when I have this implant? I mainly need to straigthen the upper teeth but have been advised that the lower teeth also need to be straightened to correct my bite.

A. hi many thanks for your email, as long as the orthodontist is consulted and is happy then there should not be a problem.

I have two chipped front teeth can I get crowns veneers from nhs?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Q. I’m 17 and still in college, I’ve got 2 chipped front teeth due to rough play as a child, also some of my adult teeth are missing according to an x ray they aren’t there so I’m stuck with rather worn down baby teeth. I never smile in photos and my teeth severly effect my confidence. Can I get crowns/vineers on the NHS?

A. You might qualify for NHS treatment but it is cosmetic treatment so I can really say for sure whether you will get your teeth sorted out on the NHS. Go to your NHS dentist and see what they can do for you.

Can I hv more aligners as I m not happy with the final results?

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Q. Hi, I have been on the Invisalign for about 15 months and I am on my last aligner. I am not totally happy with my final result and wanted to ask what options I have. Could I ask for more aligners from the dentist i am having treatment and will this cost more? Thanks

A. Thanks for your question, you should return to your dentist or Orthodontist where the next stage would be refinement. This will involve new aligners being made to hopefully acheive the results you have been aiming for. Many Thanks

Is there anything that can be done as I dont want to wear retainers for life?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Q. I had braces for a year, and ive took it off, and started wearin retainers, but my doctor said that i have to wear the retainers for a life now, i want to know is there anything that i can do, because i dont want to wear them for a life?

A. I recommend lifetime reatiners to ensure the teeth don’t move back.  You can have a fixed retainer placed behind the front 6 teeth and then only wear your other retainer at night.

I m 19 could you advice me on achieving celebrity smile?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Q. heya i am only young being 19 and hate my teeth and smile. i was offered braces when i was younger however i never wanted them i regret this decission now and would like advice on how i can achieve that celebrity smile? i really need your help.

A. Thanks for your questions. There are many teeth straightening products available, with some acheiving results in as little as six weeks and other which are virtually invisible. I would suggest that your first step should be to arrange a consultation appointment, either with an Orthodontist or a cosmetic dental practice which offer teeth straightening. There are many practices who will offer free initial consultations, to allow you to discover your options and the associated prices without any financial commitment. Many of these practices will also have the facility to ofer payment plans such as, interest free credit to help you spread the cost of the treatment. I hope that this will be of assistance bu turge you to contact you again should you require further information.
Many Thanks

How much would six month smile and invisalign roughly cost?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Q. Hi, i am 22 years old and had a traditional train track brace when i was 11, since then my one front tooth has slightlymoved forwards and my cainine teeth have moved upwards to there natural position and want to get them corrected, i dont have a high budget but have seen that the ‘6month smile’ is cheaper than the invisalign‘ how much do these roughly cost?, will the first consultation be free and do you do packages that include whitening?

A. Thanks for your enquiry, there are many straightening treatments available today, from systems which take as little as six weeks to acheive results to those which are virtually invisible. The costs for treatments which vary between systems and practices. However I can tell you that I am currently offering the Inman aligner, with whitening for £999 (for a limited period), but typically our costs for straightening start from around £1500. Many practices do offer a free initial consultation and will also have the facility to offer interest free credit to help spread the payments. I hope this helps.

Can I have brace fitted in nhs and whats the cost?

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Q. i am 29 and have just registered with a dentist after waiting for a few years,im interested in having a brace fitted as im starting to feel very wary of my teeth when i smile,Can it be done on nhs or will i have to go private? And at what cost?

A. Thanks for your questions, NHS Orthodontics treatment to adults is not usually available, however an enquiry to your local Primary Care Trust should be able to confirm this for you. There are many teeth straightening systems available privately, with some treatments taking as little as six weeks to acheive results and others which are virtually invisible. The costs for these treatments will vary between systems and practices, but I can tell you that straightening treatments at my practices start from £999. Many practices now have the facility to offer payment plans, such as interest free credit to help you spread the costs. I hope this helps.

Am I eligible for nhs dental treatment?

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

Q. At the age of 15 I had four teeth removed and was given a temporary brace to move my teeth, then a fixed brace on my lower teeth for 9 months and one on my top teeth for only 2 months. My teeth were never completely straight at the time I had the brace removed and I stated my worries to the orthodontist. He ignored my request to keep the braces on longer. When removing the braces he cut my gums severely and did not polish them afterwards. I was given a retainer to wear and was never invited to a check up. I have expressed my concerns to my NHS dentist as I have marks on my teeth from the braces and my top teeth sit slightly behind my two front teeth. I am 18 now and a student I would really like the perfect smile I thought I was getting. Is there any way I can be referred to get the treatment I should have got at the younger age? Thank you for your time.

A. You are limited as the NHS will not treat you for mior discrepencies

What is the possible treatment and cost for front teeth moving forward?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Q. I had braces two years ago, I am 17 years old now and I currently have a permanent fitting at the back of my two front teeth they were placed their in order to prevent my two front teeth from moving forward. However the opposite thing happened now I am starting to see them move forward and they look really ugly. So I was wondering how much would it cost to get my front teeth fixed?…..and what else could be done to them in order to improve their appearance?

A. hi
it would mean that your retainer has not done the job it was intended to
the amount they have moved would determine costs for treatment – if minor expect a cost -1500
if major could be approx 2700
after they are straight we would supply a retainer that would cover the teeth at night that prevents movement in either direction which you would have to wear 2-3 nights a week

Does crowded teeth require braces or some other treatment?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Q. hi, i am 14 and my bottom teeth are really crowded and crukid but my top teeth are slightly crukid but my two front teeth stick cus my teeth are going under my two front teeth… do i need braces?

A. Thanks for yur questions, it sounds like you may be suitable for brace treatment. You General dentist should be able to refer you to an Orthodontist for assessment on the NHS. The Orthodontist will then be able to tell you whether it is a case that fits the guidelines for NHS treatment. I hope this helps

Need a cost effective treatment for crooked and spaced tooth

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Q. My teeth are spaced out on the top(only 6 of hem) and on the bottom my teeth are a little crooked.(only 4 of them) I know it might not seem like a big issue but i was just wondering if there is a way i can get braces for about 6-8 months without it costing me too much?

A. Thanks for your questions, there are teeth straightening systems available now, which can work in as little as six weeks. I would recommend that you attend a consultation with a practitioner who offers systems such as the Inman Aligner and Six Month Smiles. there are many practices now that will offer a free consultation to enable you to discuss the options that would be suitable for your specific case and the prices, without any financial commitment from yourself. Many of these practices will also offer finance options such as interest free credit. Although the prices for these treatment will vary between practices, I can tell you that the cost of the Inman Aligner at my practice starts from £999. I hope this helps, but please do not hesitate to contact me again should require any further assistance.

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Q. Dear doc I had lost my baby tooth after my adult tooth grew in right in front of it and now my teth are crooked is there a way to fix this before my wedding in June?

A. You could look at short term orthodontics such as 6 month smiles or invisalign.  You really need a cosmetic consultation to assess your options.
