I Wasn’t Provided With A Retainer After Dental Treatment And Now I Require More Dental Work, Please Help!

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013
Q.

Hello Sir,
I’ve had a previous orthodontal treatment about ten years ago and now that treatment has lapsed due to the retainers which weren’t given in the end of the treatment. This is an open bite case and now the acclusion isn’t happening on the molars. They have suggested a cosmetic surgery to correct it by rotating the molars as the muscles near the chin only is enabling the balance of the teeth. I am kindly asking for your opinion on this as I feel it is slightly extreme. I don’t understand why I wasn’t given a retainer at the end of my treatment, because I’d never had any orthodontic treatment before I did not know what to expect. Thank you for your advice.

I chipped my two front teet about 8 years ago and I have had them capped but because I grind my teeth a lot the caps are continuously being worn and chipped. I have a night guard but they are still really noticable when I smile. How can I fix this?

is there a treament for chin and nose that protrude and set back teeth

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008
Q.
Do you know of a treatment for when the front teeth top and bottom are set too far back and from the profile view the chin and nose protrude. I wore a brace when I was 13/14 and think that the teeth were pulled back too far. I have seen a local surgeon who really made me feel uneasy and wouldn’t speak to me privately and since then i’ve been really depressed. At school kids used to goad me about it. I am not confident when I smile and really would like to restore that confidence.

Can we have a better obturator for the roof of the mouth

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008
Q.
My father-in-law recently had an operation for cancer, which involved removal of some of the roof of his mouth, as a result of which he now wears an obturator. Following radiotherapy, his obturator now fits so poorly that he is almost unable to eat or drink, as everything comes straight down his nose. It also makes his speech difficult to understand. He has gone from 12 stone down to about 9, and is still losing weight – to the extent that everyone involved in his care is concerned about him, but his reconstructive dentist is too busy to anything about it. Is it possible to have an obturator made privately? What would the likely cost be? How long would it take? It seems absurd to cure a man of cancer only to condemn him to starve to death! I look forward to hearing from you.

I chipped my front tooth and several crowns have fallen off the stump

Saturday, June 28th, 2008
Q.
Hi there, I chipped my front tooth some years ago and after various crowns falling off the ‘stump’ that was left, the stump rotted completely and was removed. It was replaced with a metal rod to which a crown veneer (?) is now attached. I am happy with the appearance of the tooth but the gum above the tooth has got progressively more discoloured over the years. I am concerned about this as I haven’t heard that this is normal and it is understandably bothering me as it is my front tooth and so visible to others. My NHS dentist informed me that the grey was in fact the top of the metal peg showing but I’m not sure if I believe this as the gum actually looks grey. Furthermore, i’m sure that it has changed colour- going from a pale grey to a darker grey over the past few years. My dentist also informed me that I was being too aggressve with my teeth brushing and that the reason you could see grey was because I had brushed the gum back and that I should stick to a more gentle, circular cleaning motion in order to reshape the gum. I tried this over a period of several months- in fact I am still following his advice, but I can see no change. I want to know whether this is a problem you have encountered before? And if there would be any cosmetic dentistry service available to remedy it?
