How Much Would It Cost to Get Dental Implants Through the NHS?

Friday, September 12th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Huges. I am looking into getting all my teeth pulled out and have screw-in teeth or dental implants to replace them. I have had cancer and since then I have finished my chemotherapy and now I have had nothing but problems with my teeth, I brush them two times a day every day and they just keep rotting. I am in pain most the time, and I just want to get it sorted now. I currently don’t work so would have to go through the NHS as I couldn’t pay for private treatment. If you could tell me how much it will cost and how long the wait would be. I would be very grateful. Many thanks for your time.

I Am An NHS Patient But I Pay Charges For A Scale And Polish. Should I Have To Pay Privately For This Treatment?

Tuesday, August 19th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. My dentist refuses to polish my teeth after a ‘scale and polish’ saying this is cosmetic only. Can I insist he polishes them or can you tell me where I can go to get the stains removed? I am an NHS patient but pay the charges for a check up and scale and polish. He will carry out a scale but will not polish the stains off the front of my teeth.

Is it possible to have this done under the NHS or would I have to go private? Thank you.

I Am Very Self Conscious Of My Gummy Smile. Can This Be Done Through The NHS As I Am Under 16?

Monday, August 4th, 2014
Q.

As a 15 year old would I be able to have my gummy smile removed and have my two front teeth filed down in line with the rest through the NHS? I am very self conscious of them and I avoid photos. I am also hoping to have a career in acting and I know that having those problems unfixed would jeopardize that. My gummy smile is a few millimetres of gum showing, mainly from a low gum line between each tooth. My two front teeth are also 2 millimetres longer than the the teeth next to them and I would love to have them filed down level to the others. If I can, how much would it cost and how long would take to get an appointment and have it done? Thank you for your time.

I Got Knocked Off My Bike And Fractured My Tooth. Would Treatment For This Be Available Through The NHS?

Wednesday, May 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello,
I got knocked from my bike by a car last week and have fractured upper left 2, sublimed upper left 1 and chipped upper right 1. My dentist initially advised me to leave everything for a week and constantly wear my Invisalign aligner. I have done this and returned to the dentist today. I have been told this morning that upper left 2 has a vertical fracture with exposure of the nerve and needs to be removed. I have a few questions about treatment options. I have spent a lot of money and time over the last 5 years having orthodontic treatment and don’t want to have a noticeably abnormal tooth. What would be the best treatment option for this and would there be any way of getting some funding on the NHS to help pay for treatment?
Thanks.

Why Can’t I Get A Bridge Through The NHS, And How Much Would I Expect To Pay?

Tuesday, November 26th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I have something I’d like to ask. I had four veneers fitted on my four upper front teeth 21 years ago, one has broken and my teeth have gone completely rotten behind them. I saw an NHS dentist this morning who says the four teeth need removing and she advises that I see a private dentist for a bridge. How much should I expect to pay and why can’t I have this done on the NHS? She said she can only offer me dentures and she does not think this is the correct treatment? I’d like to hear any advice from this on this.

Can I receive braces for free?

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012
Q.

Hello Doctor, I am currently a 23 year old full time worker. I work for the nhs and i have always had very crooked teeth. This really gets me down and i feel very self-conscious. I had 12 teeth removed when i was younger due to overcrowding and i have now been left with a very unattractive smile. I would love to have braces fitted but cannot afford them privately, i know a few people who have had braces fitted for free and i would like to know if I’m in any way eligible for this work to be done because i work for the nhs? and how do i go about receiving the treatment? if not, do you know how i could spread the costs of the treatment? Thank you for your time.
