How long does the infection in my mouth last for?

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Q. Hi i just got dentures about 3 weeks ago and they still hurt abit when i chew my food. Is that normal? and also i have a infection on the roof of my mouth my dentist gave me this medication called nystatin ointment to put inside my denture it doesn’t taste very good i gag everytime i use it. how long does the infection usually last for. Thanks

A. Nystatin treats fungal infections. In general fungal infections tend to require prolonged treatments.
If you are new to dentures a small ammonut of discomfort is normal, if this continues for more than 2 weeks I would return to your dentist for further assesment.

WHATS YOUR OPINION IT COULD BE I WOULD BE SO GRAEFUL FOR YOUR ADVISE. kind regds

A. I recommend you go back to your dentist and ask him to take an x-ray of this tooth and to check your bite.

Can u gimme some information about why my lower jaw goes to the right?

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Q. Hiya, im 21 and have recently noticed that my lower jaw goes to right. I never really noticed it until it was mentioned to me about 6 months ago. I have tried looking on the net but all i can find is info on overbites, and nothing regarding anyone with there jaw going to the right. Best regards

A. This can be caused by asymmetirical growth of your jaw sometimes caused by trauma at a young age. If your teeth fit together corectly, the upper teeth being on the outside of the lower teeth the chin can be reshaped to improve the appearance by a plastic surgeon. I the teth do not fit together properly you may be able to have youtr jaw broken and repositioned correctly.

Thursday, December 11th, 2008

Q. hello,i have had many fillings in my 40 years ive recently had a front tooth taken out which had a root filling and a terrible mess made fitting a false tooth almost half the size of my other tooth cause of the impression im looking fow vaneers i think for a nice smile how much would this cost?? i have holes at least 2 plus discoloured teeth and as i say alot of fillings A LOT thank you

A. It is difficult to quote without an examination. Some practice like ours offer a free initial consultation with a dentist to give you some options with guide prices. i recommend getting two or three quotes before deciding on the best treatment ( and cost ) for you.

I have weakened enamel on my teeth

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Q. I have weakened enamel on my teeth. I have read about remineralising treatment available to help strengthen the enamel. I currently use duraphat toothpaste for my problem – would remineralisation help, and how much does it cost?

A.

hi
if the enamel is weak but not cavitated a high fluoride toothpaste or liquid would help remineralize and toughen the enamel.
the amount of time it is in contact with the tooth surface is crucial the longer the better.
so it would be wise to have mouth trays custom made to hold the fluoride against the teeth without it being washed away
cost approx 140 for trays and fluoride can be bought inexpensively in most places

Do you know anywhere in Scotland that does Inman Aligner

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

Q. Hi there, can you tell me if there are any dental practices offering the inman aligner near the paisley area of scotland? What exactly is the process of the inman aligner? do you get a mould of your teeth and need to collect the aligner at a later date and also do you need to revisit the practice to have the aligner moved etc? how long does the whole process take from the first appointment till the teeth are straightened? and lastly what would the total cost be to get my upper and bottom front teeth fixed with the inman aligner? many thanks

A. I am not aware of any practices in Paisley offering the Inman aligner.
The first appointment will involve taking a mould of your teeth so that the lab can construct the aligner. The aligner will then be fitted a few weeks later. Treatment can take from as little as 6 weeks to 12 months. It all depends on the amount of crowding you have and on the complexity of the case.
