It sounds as though you do need your tooth removed- please discuss your anxiety with your dentist as the problem of removing the tooth will only increase the more the decay is allowed to grow

Q. I HAVE TWO TEETH MISSING COULD YOU ADVISE MY TREATMENT AND COSTS

A. I would recommend implants over bridge work over dentures provided various factors are met.  I cannot give you costs as there are too many variables

I need to have implant and I cant have missing teeth for 6 months any advice

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Q. ive got two implants either side of a tooth thats had route canal work done,my dentist has told me the impants will have to come out have titanium screws put in so i can have a bridge made, but in the mean time i have to have 6 months for my gums to heal, working in the public sector i cant go to work with 3 teeth missing for 6 months,i cant wear false teeth as i have tried before, any ideas and is it expensive

A. I’m a little unsure of your situation. Just to clarify- once implants are placed into the jaw- you cannot ‘take them out’- unless of course you’re referring to post crowns?
It sounds as though you have been recommended an implant retained bridge. Dental implants are titanium screws like you said, and you can have 2 placed with a 3 unit bridge over the top. (3 teeth on 2 screws)
This is financially a better way of doing it. There is also an option of having a temprary bridge in the meantime onto these implants. You need to be aware that integration of the bone may take a little longer as they will be loaded staright away. Alternatively, a partial dentiure is agood way of letting the gums heal and settle around the sites before they are restored. If you have any questions, I’m sure your dentist will clarify. Otherwise, I would be more than happy to offer you a free consultaion at my kissdental practice to discuss this further. hope this has helped.

I have teeth missing ate the front of my mouth will dentures be able to be fitted there

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Q. I have been told by my dentist that I need to have surgery to re-align my lower jaw which I broke 6-7 years ago. It has broken and reset slightly wrong plus I still have roots embedded in my gums which apparently cannot be removed. This means I have to have dentures and was hoping for implants. Please advise as I don’t want surgery but as I have teeth missing at the front of my mouth will dentures be able to be fitted there

A. It is normally possible to make dentures for any gap although implants are preferable. i’m not sure why the roots cannot be removed but they may be close to a nerve and might cause nerve damage if they are taken out.

my son has braces and he has teeth missing and lots of decay how can he get the smile again

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

Q. my son was attacked and he has braces on and he has teeth missing from the attack and he has a lot of decay going on now///the crime victims assisstance is gave the go ahead so now I am trying to find somewhere that will work with me and my son to get the braces off and get him back to smiling again

A. It sounds like your son needs to be fully assessed so a long term plan can be made to get your son smiling again.  The decay will need to treated first then possibly implants to fill he spaces.   How old is your son? You can send me some some photos or come and visit my practice if you need more advice.

Ive 2 missing teeth and my front teeth are also receeding can ive veneers and whats the cost

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Q. I have 2 missing teeth at the top either side of the middle two. My two front teeth are also receeding. It sometimes hurts when i brush them. I was wondering would i be able to get veneers on the top teeth, if so how much would it cost. My bottom teeth are not too bad, but i really hate them. Im embarrassed when people see them, and hate smiling!! Need to do something…

A. You need to have you teeth assessed by a cosmetic dentist to get the best result you may need your teeth moved by orthodontics first of have some gum grafting to improve the look.  You could have implants to fill the missing gaps.

My 6 yrs old lost both his incisors one of them has come out how long should i wait for the other

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

Q. My daughter, who is nearly 6, lost both of her incisors at the same time. Two months later her canines fell out. My concern is that although one of her incisors has grown through the other one hasn’t. And as already mentioned her canines are also now beginning to show through even though they fell out two months laster. I am worried that she has not got an incisor to come out and I was wondering whether if this can be possible and if so what can I do to help her. No one in our family has ever had this problem, although I have read on the internet that adult teeth in children can sometimes be missing and that it is genetic. Please help. How long should I wait before I can be sure that she hasn’t got a tooth to come out.

A. I would ask your dentist to take an x-ray of the area to check the teeth erupting.  She is quite young, the teeth maybe under the gum as they don’t always come through in pairs at the same time

Ive two missing incisors and can i just close the gaps and make my canines look like incisors

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Q. hey, im 15 and i have two missing incisors. Its next to my front ones and the canines. So i had braces in 7th grade january and i have spaces there and im moving the roots now. I looked at options until i get my implants and they don’t really look that great… Im kind of depressed and im wondering if this is the right choice for me. I am wondering if i just close the gaps and make my canines look like lateral incisors if that will be the better choice? I heard that i’ll probably need a root canal and a crown to do this? or is there a different option? its high school next year and im so depressed over this. i havent had a girl since 8th grade because the gaps got so big i look like im from tennesee. Please help me? Which is a better option? How long will it take to close the gaps anyway?

A. Its always best to keep the teeth if possible so I guess the best option when you’re young is to build out the canines with veneers to look like the laterals. You need to discuss this in detail with your orthodontist. Good luck Andrew

My top front teeth are misaligned with the center of my face what can be done to fix it?

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Q. Hi Dr Moore, My front top teeth are missaligned with the centre of my face(nose)I do have a space in each side (second back teeth right and left removed) what would be possible to bring the centre line of my top front teeth back to the centre line of my face, I never smile as i am so aware of this problem. Thanks

A. It is very difficult to straighten a misaligned centre line howver it can be done with either a brace or veneers, depending on the severity of the shift. Ask you dentist for some options or a referral to a cosmetic practice

Iam 29yrs old reside in India what would be the best option to replace my missing tooth

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Q. Hi, Iam 29yrs old. I reside in India. I had an accident 1 month ago. I lost 1 tooth on the top center and 2 centers on the lower line. It also stuck the other center tooth on the top and one more beside it as well as one on the lower line next to the canine. These are still strong but got a root canal done as recommended by my dentist. To replace the missing tooth what could be the best option. What would be more advisable to do? A bridge or removable dentures? Iam also worried about loosing the bone structure at the spaces of the missing teeth. Will this bone loose lead to the neighbouring teeth getting loose over a period of time? If so how long will that be? Thankyou…

A. Ideally, you need to have a CT scan to confirm the bone levels in your jaw. This is the only way to determine how much bone you have and if it is possiblt to have an implant in the gap. This is by far your  best option. You are right in saying that you are worried about losing bone in the area. When a gap is present, the gum and bone shrinks back. The less bone, the less likely it is to have an implant placed. You may also find that the teethon either side may drift into the gap- often tilted at an angle. So, the quicker it is planned, the better. A removeable denture will probably be needed anyway if an implant is placed for approx 12 weeks afterwards. This will make sure that everything has healed before a crown is placed. I hope all of this information has helped in your decision.

I have two missing teeth is it necessary to have two dental implants for filling the gap in between

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Q. I have two teeth missing, one extracted over 30 years ago and one three months ago, both on the lower right. The two teeth inbetween the gaps are healthy. My dentist has recommended an implant at the back for the recently extracted tooth. When I appeared content with the price he suddenly announced that I needed two, one for each hole. How do I check this, after all the second gap has been there so long and I dont appear to be bothered by this. £4000 is a lot to pay if you dont actually need it

A. Obviously it is better to replace both teeth but if cost is an issue then maybe just go for one for now, you can always do the other later

some of my teeth missing and some are severley decayed and crooked what are my options

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Q. i have had crooked teeth from being a child and due to a bad experience during sedation i refused to visit the dentist. this has been my greatest regret in life. i am now 32 and my teeth are severley decayed with many back teeth missing. my front teeth are extremley crooked and to say this has affected my confidence would be an understatement. i am now so depressed due to my appearence i rarely leave the house and my work is starting to become affected. i need to know what my options are and at what price as money is another obstacle that i will have to address.

A. You need to know that there are options available to you. To have a smile makeover, there will be a considerable cost to it. I recommend that you have a consulation firstly and discuss the budget you would like to work to. Please note that there are financial options for payment aswell that can help. (such as 0% interest free finance)
As you have had sedation before in the past, I gather that you are very nervous. When choosing the ‘right’ practice, you have to feel welcomed and comfotable in your surroundings. I would be more than happy to see you for a free consultaion at my practice- or I can recommend some dentists in your area if you wish. THanks for your enquir and I hope that you’re smiling again soon.

What are the options for root canal failure and missing tooth

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

Q. I had a crown than a root canal and now i have been told to extract or an implant or bridge or removable denture its my back tooth. I dont know what to do please help

A. If a root canal fails then you firstly have 2 options.

Option 1: Re root canal the tooth with a special Endodontist. The pro of this is that you are doing everything you possibly can to save you existing tooth. Cons are that it may be costly and is not guarenteed to work.

Option 2: Extract the tooth. Pro of this is that you are not investing any money into a tooth that may fail. The cons are that you will be left with a gap and will need to decide on how, if at all, you would like to restore this gap.

The option for a missing tooth are:

option 1:  Leave the space. Th pro is that this is the cheapest option. Cons are that you have a space in you mouth and that eventually other teeth may fall into the gap and if it is only the lower jaw, the oposing tooth on the upper jaw my grown down into the space.

Option 2: Denture: This is the cheapest way to restore the gap. Cons are that it is removable and sometimes the plastic may be uncomfortable.

Option 3: A bridge: Pros are that it is a fixed restoration, therefore you will not be able to take it out. However the cons of this treatment are that bridges are very envasive as you have to corwn the teeth either side of the gap (which involves taking away tooth structure) retain the missing tooth. Bridges are advised to be changed every 10-15 years. As the price of a private bridge can be very similar to an Implant, if it is out of these two options an Implant would, without a doubt, be the best option.

Option 4: An Implant: Pros are that an implant is a fixed restoration that doesnt effect any of your other teeth. A titanium screw is implanted into your jaw and a porcelain crown is fixed on top. The cons are that this is the most expensive option with implants costing from £2500.00.

I hope this has help you in making a decision.

I have broken decay or missing teeth what is the best option

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Q. My front 4 teeth are just fine on the top, however the rest on either side are either broken, decaying or missing. What would be my best bet with dentures? Partials, over dentures, or complete upper set?

A.

It a specific answer that needs a clinical assesment to answer properly. If you are not sure get a couple of dental opinions and decide which outcome best suits your teeth and lifestyle.
