My gums have receded to the extent would lumineers be the way forward?

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Q. I have 15 year old veneers on 8 teeth and my gums have receded to the extent that the old scraped down teeth is now visible behind the veneers and is ugly and extremely sensitive. Unfortunately I had one replaced by my dentist last year and it looks even worse, he had to shave half of it away so I could close my teeth, not a great job, and I am terrified of the dentist!! Would lumineers be the way forward for me, and how expensive are they? Thank you :)

A. Lumineers are a type of very thin veneer more suitable for people who have never had treatment on their front teeth so I don’t know if they would be the best option for you. It sounds like you just need the veneers all replaced with good quality veneers made using an experienced dentist and technician.

How to whiten my teeth with veneers?

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Q. Hi, I have had lumineers for about 2 years, and I had bulimia for most of that time, I noticed recently that they are yellow, especially towards the gumline, I bought white strips, but it says it doesn’t work on veneers, What is the best way for me to whiten my teeth? is it possible to whiten them? please advise. Thank you.

A. If the underlying tooth is dark it is very difficult to whiten them. Whitening gels may damage your veneers the only option may be to replace them.

how much do lumineers cost do you do lumineers in manchester

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

Q. hello i was wondering if lumineers are more expensive than other types of veneers such as mac or durathin veneers that i have been reading about on your website.

do you know of any clinics in ,manchester that do lumineers and how much this would cost?

A. Hello,

Lumineers are a thin type of veneer and the brand states that they need no or minimal preparation, you must note that lumineers are NOT right for everyone and after a consultation with your dentist you will get a better idea if they are for you. we offer lumineers at our practice and I am not aware of other manchester practices that do but you could do a search online for lumineers in manchester on google.
If you are interested in veneers we do offer a Free consultation

Could you give some details on Lumineers?

Monday, October 19th, 2009

Q. HI, I have a gap in my two front teeth and want to close it. I have been to the dentist who advises invisalign or veeners. I didnt want the veeners I dont want to have my teeth enamel removed and invisalign is quite expensive and I am not sure whether I want to go through that. I then came accross lumineers and got very excited as I thought thats for me!!No invasive procedure great. What do you think to them do they look nice and are they safe. Are they really reversable.Or would you just go for direct bonding I have some already now that needs redoing could it just be touched up and not have to be drilled off.

A. Lumineers a brand name for veneers.  They are marketed as non prep veneers but can often require some tooth shaping.  Once they are bonded on they do need to be drilled off if they require replacement.  If you have gaps betwen your teeth yo may requre “proper” veneers to prevent the 2 front teeth from looking too wide.

Can lumineers last for more than 20 years?

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Q. I am interested in Lumineers however my Dentist does not provide this service and says she wouldn’t touch them as they cause all sorts of problems including inflamed gums. This confuses me as the Lumineers website says they can last for over 20 years (do they?) Please advise Thanks

A. Hi,Lumineers are a great way of improving your overall smile- especially ifyou dislike the shae of your eeth. You need to unerstands that a degree of reparation is always needed to fit the veneers onto your teeth. Inflamed gums can happen if theveneers ae nt cemenetd properley- and the excess cemenet has no been removed fully. It can also happen if the veneers are made to a poor standard. For this reason alone, I would highly recommend that you see a cosmetic dentist- someone who has experience and someone who fully understands aesthetics of a smile. If you dislike your teeth, you have the opportunity to resolve your issues. Hope this has helped and good luck.

Could you Plz give some info on vampire teeth

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Q. I need to know of where I can get vampire teeth at?

A. Veneers or lumineers would be the normal way to achieve a semi permanant look but be aware that the human bite does not naturally conform the enlarged teeth and a higher rate of fracture / restoration debond is likely.
Also consider if you want Nosferatu middle fangs or Christopher Lee Style corner fangs
guide price £400-600 per tooth

Ive gap between my front teeth what is the best solution invisalign or lumineers

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

Q. Hi Doctor, I have been reading a lot about Lumineers and invisalign. I had braces at the age of 22 for about a year and a half. I used have uneven teeth, which sort of got straightened but nothing close to perfect. I have a gap between my font teeth which I want fixed. I am wondering what the best solution for me would be? I want to avoid undergoing the painful process of braces all over again. Can you please advice me on this? Also how can I get an appointment at your clinic and when? Thanking you in anticipation. Regards,

A. For me I would always want you to straighten your teeth, Invisalign is a great way to do this.  If after this you still wanted to have veneers it would provide you with the best possible outcome.  You are more then welcome to come in for a free consultation where we can look at all the options.  You can look at my website on www.mulberrydental.co.uk.

WHich one of lumineers, invisalign, and inman aligners are better for crooked teeth?

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Q. I have crooked and mishapen teeth, especially my top six front teeth. I’m trying to decide between lumineers, invisalign, and inman aligners. I’m 18 years old and live in the USA. I’m also a student in college. Cost and time have a big difference in my decision. What information can you give me to help me make my final choice?

A. I would always recommend some form of orthodontics to realign your natural teeth . Once that has been done reassess your smile and have veneer placed if necesary.

Can i consult my Dentist to redo my lumineers?

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Q. I had lumineers done 4 years ago on 10 top teeth to cover a large gap….i hate them..they look crooked, huge and bulky…i don’t take pictures anymore, …i am so depressed and don’t know what to do..is the doctor obligated to appease the situation? maybe by doing them over? even though some years have passed?

A. 4 years is a long time to wait to have them redone so you will probably have to pay for them to be redone. Perhaps normal veneers will be better where the teeth are trimmed prior to fitting making them less bulky.

What do u suggest for a loose tooth?

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Q. I have a tooth which feels loose what can i do? i dont want to lose it?

A.  You may have to lose it if there is no bone surrounding the tooth. Se  your dentist to have the tooth Xrayed to assess the bone levels and to see if gum treatment is possible

My teeth are almost see through thin would lumineers are right for me?

Saturday, August 22nd, 2009

Q. Hello, I am a 25 year female. When I was 22, I had the zoom whitening procedure done on my teeth, followed by at home bleaching trays which left my teeth whiter, but almost see through thin. I have stopped using the trays because I honestly feel like my teeth will fall out if I bleach them any more! I would really like to look into lumineers to help brighten and change my smile (I have never really liked the shape of my teeth). However, I have a couple of concerns. One of my eye teeth is really crocked and I am not sure if a lumineer can still be placed over it. Also, I have heard that you have to be very careful about what you eat because they chip very easy. What more can you tell me to help me decide of lumineers are right for me?

A. lumineers are just a brand of veneers.  They profess to be none prep veneers but the cases I have seen that have been done in this way have not been up to the  standard of “normal” veneers.  If a tooth slopes into the mouth can have a no prep veneer to produce a great result – it all depends on the tooth position of your teeth you want veneered.

Im 15 and Ive hardly no enamel left what can i do to help my teeth?

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Q. i am 15 years old and i had mono for up to a year; i got really sick and i puked everyday for 2 years in a row, my dentist told me i have hardly no enamel left is there anything i can do to help my teeth? so far i’ve had 2 teeth pulled and i’m about to get another pulled. i want to know if lumineers are right for me; i would really like to fix my teeth; no matter what i do my teeth stay yellow; what should i do?

A. Thanks for your email. We need to protect these teeth and build them up. Has the vomiting stopped? This must be your first treatment. Then I suggest a fluoride mouthwash.

Depending on how much enamel has been lost they can be covered with composite resin bonding (tooth filling material) or crowns this would also improve the colour. I suggest you find a cosmetic paedodontist (children and teens dentist). You are unlikely to be a suitable candidate for lumineers. Good luck!
