Q. hi, my teeth are quite small for my age. i’m 16 and only noticed this 1 year ago after an orthodontist pointed it out to me. My molars are maybe 2-3mm out of my gums and my other teeth are less than an inch out of my gums. is this strange or common, furthermore, my to front teeth overlapped as i grew up. is this related?
A. Size of teeth and crowding/spacing are related. The size of your teeth oftens relates to your general body size.

Q. Hi, i had a brace when i was about 13 for 10 months and had to have some teeth removed to make space for them to straighten out, well i am now 20 and during the last couple of years i have started to grind my teeth, they have become sensitive and look awful my two front teeth are the worse one is shorther then the other and 3 of my bottom front teeth have been ground down aswell so all my back teeth are fine but when i bite my front teeth dont meet, what is the best way to sort this and least expensive? Thankyou so much
A. hi many thanks for your email, the best least expensive way to sort this out is rebuild the front teeth using white filling material and then invest in a nightguard so if you do grind your teeth at night it will be the nightguard which is ground away and not your teeth.
hope this is helpful.

Q. hi, 6 to 7 years ago i had veneers privately done on my front 4 top teeth. i was pleased for the 1st year or 2 but over time they now look awful. i had braces for 4 years (not train tracks) when i was in my early teens as i had a large gap in my teeth and they pointed abit forward and made me look goofy, after time with the braces the 2 front teeth eventually crossed over so went from one extreme to another, i then had braces to stop the crossing and push them back, they soon became straight. after not having the braces on for about 2years i decided i wanted dental veneers as one of the front ones was badly discouloured and i thought they were to long! so i went ahead and had venneers as i said above i was happy at first but now the 2 front teeth have crossed again but even worst they point forward making my lip pertrude slightly!! i never imagined this would happen with vaneers but it has done! also i feel they have slightly come away from my gums with the movement and on close inspection you8 can see a gap and the very top of the veneers have a ruff edge and are black! i smoke around 8 day i realise this hasnt help, but they are now crooked, discoloured and come away from my gums, i really dont know what to do!! do you think 4 implants would be a good idea, i know it would vbe pricey and it very cliche of me to say but all i ever wanted was a perfect hollywood smile, i heard about the invisable braces but im not sure this would be right as i would still have to keep the veneers! please help!!! thanks so much in advance.
A.
It is a very difficult for me to advise you without seeing your mouth. However, I can tell you that implants are not the way forward. Please book in with a cosmetic dentist for an acurate opinion. It may be orthodntics you need, or a simple case of changing the veneers.

Q. Hi, I am 53 and had conventional orthodontic treatment to straighten my front teeth as a teenager. In recent years, my front teeth have started to move forwards and have gaps. I initially looked into orthodontic treatment but was told that it was unlikely to be successful due to ‘getting long in the tooth’. Is there anything by way of cosmetic dentistry that could done?
A. Im sure orthodontics could improve your teeth aesthetically. But it depends what you are looking to acheive. If you simply want to align them then orthodontics is the way forward. If you would like to change the shape, colour and size of your teeth then Veneers may be what you are looking for.
you are very welcome to book with either myself for a cosmetic consultation, or with my collegue Dr Darsh Patel for an orthodontic consultation at my clinic, Umbrella. Please visit www.umbrellasmiles.com for more info.

Q. My question is about my lower teeth, 4 to 5 of them are overcrowded but also some are kind of chipped but do not have a hole in them. Is there a way to get them to line up in every way?
A. You could have the teeth straightened and then have the chipped teeth re built. You need to have a consultation to see what options are available.

Q. I had veneers fitted on 6 of my front teeth at the top and they are all beginning to come loose as apparently the teeth under them are beginning to rot (i only had them done 3 years ago). I have had to have one of these teeth removed completely (one right at the front) and am now having to wear a denture plate thing which keeps falling out when i speak and i cant eat with it in. I have not been able to leave the house or see anyone because i am so depressed and my gp has put me on anti depressants (not just because of the tooth – have lost loads of family recently amongst other issues and losing my tooth was the straw that knackered the camels back) . in circumstances like this where patients are upset about the way they look because of thier breast size the nhs sometimes do breast implants – is there any way of getting a tooth implant done on the nhs as i am a single parent and was made redundant a while ago and can’t go back to work as I have just been diagnosed with ME so i just cant afford much – is there anywhere that could help? besides – arent teeth cheaper than boobs?
A. I like your reasoning but unfortunatley I’ve never heard of treatment being done because of these problems.
You could try a teaching hospital as they can sometimes provide subsidised treatments.

Q. hey dr.moore what can i do about one of my front tooth is longer than my other.if there is a way to fix that how can i and what would the price be.
A. If it is only a small difference then trimming the teeth can help. If not it might involve a brace (£1500) or veneers (from £500 per tooth)

Q. hi,over the last 8-10 years my 2 upper front teeth have clearly protruded forward and it seems my teeth have become more crooked in general,i would like them staightened but there seems to be a vast array of braces to choose from. i am 39 years old and concerned whether braces work on an adult with much success, also 2 of my upper front teeth are noticeably smaller than the others, can you advise the best treatment to make these teeth the same as the others, thanks
A. Many times in these cases I will opt for invisalign to move the teeth into ideal position and treat poorly shaped teeth with veneers. As an adult the ortho using invisalign tyakes about 6mths to 1year

Q. I have had gum disease. My gum line is very receded and therefore my teeth are very “long”. I have been treated and see a dentist regularly but would like to improve the looks of my front teeth. I also have big gaps between my teeth where the gums used to be. Am I a candidate for lumineers?
A. `Hi If the gums and bone are stable it is possible to pace veneers on the front teeth to reduce the size of the gaps. Ask your dentist to assess the health of the teeth and gums to decide whether you’re suitable

Andrew

Q. the upper side of my teeth are slightly out from the front and on the bottom side the rest are farily normal but one tooth, which is in right the middle, is longer than the rest and actually digs into the upper of my mouth. what treatment can i have to fix my tooth of at least make it look nice?
A. hi braces or just grinding the offending tooth down may be an option, but this is difficult to answer without look ing at you.
i would advise a consult where you can be given brace or veneer options

Q. Hello, i am interested on getting some cosmetic dentistry work done in the coming months – Basically i am unhappy with the length on my central and lateral incisors, ive always been of this opinion, i had braces when i was younger, and am very happy with the position of the teeth. They are just too big in a length way!I am now 24 and want to get it sorted out, is there any way i can have them filed down maybe 2mm, i don’t think i need veneers, they seem expensive. I think it would greatly help my self esteem. If i can get this done what do i inquire about to a cosmetic dentist? and would you have a vague idea of how much this procedure would cost? Cheers.
A. the posh name for this is ameloplasty, so it can be done. 2mm is probably too much without causing sensitivity. Most cosmetic dentists would want to do a lot of simulation on study casts and photos before picking up a drill. So to spend a couple of minutes shaving the teeth, the bill is likely to reflect an hour or two in fees. (£2-400)

Q. I have two ?incisors at the front of my mouth that look much bigger than the two next to my two front teeth (top). Basically for a straight smile can they be trimmed or is this being daft?
A. The 2 upper central incisors should be bigger. However if they are out of proportion then some adjustment could be a good way of improving their apperance

Q. When I was young my teeth were awful. Since having braces when i was 14 my teeth are now quite straight. However, my two front teeth are still quite disproportionally large compared to the rest of my mouth (especially in width), there is also a small chip in my left fron tooth. What potential cosmetic treatments are there for me to reduce the size of my teeth and which is the best in your opinion. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks
A. hi many thanks for your enquiry, the first thing to mention is if your two front teeth are much wider than the rest of your teeth.the only way to make things in better proportions is to reduce the width of the two front teeth by preparing the teeth and spreading this loss of width to the surrounding teeth, therefore making the front two teeth less wide but making the other teeth slightly wider using veneers. this sometimes requires the front four teeth to be veneered but in severe cases it may require the front ten teeth to be veneered to help spread the width so everything looks in proportion. hope this makes sense and if you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Q. Hi, Is it possible to get one of my front teeth filed down?as its longer than all of my other teeth?i know i can have veneers on the others to match the long one but i think it would make my teeth look too big if that makes sense
A. It is difficult to tell whether the tooth is too long or the others too short without seeing you. It might also be wworth aligning the teeth with a brace, depending on the everity of the discrepancy.

Q. I was diagnosed 2 years ago (2 years after the birth of my child) with receeding gums. I had the receeding gum at the lower front teeth cut away to stop more gum from pulling away from the teeth. I am now ‘long in the tooth’ My dental hygiene from diagnosis has been meticulous; I brush, floss, use interdental brushes and a tongue scraper and mouthwash. However, my gums are continuing to receed. There are small gaps forming betwe
en most teeth, especially the back molers. I also get a burning sensation in my mouth. I used to smoke on a social basis during my university days but I do not smoke now. My mother lost her teeth to pyrrhoea at the age of 29 after her first child and my sister lost a tooth to pyrroea during her first pregnancy. No roots are exposed as yet. My teeth do not wobble uncontrollably. However, when I eat and food gets trapped between the gaps, my teeth slightly move before I remove the debris with floss and they then settle down again. I have booked in with a specialist but I am worried. I am only 30 and I do not want dentures. My dentist said that I would eventually lose my teeth in my fifties, starting with the lower bottom teeth. I was shocked. What can be done about the gaps between the teeth and my long bottom front teeth? Can the recession be stopped? Your comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
A. You are taken the right course of action by seeing a specialist ( periodontist I presume). If you have a genetic predisposition to this then now is the time to have treatment. Hopefully the periodontist will be abel to control your disease – they have many different types of treatment . Keep doing your best with your OHI. You may also need to be checked for general medical problems – usually with a blood test .

Q. hi im having a veneer put on only on my front tooth ive always hated my front teeth i think they look to long can you have your front teeth filled down to make them look a little bit shorter it would make me feel a lot better about my self. L
A. Hi L
To recontour teeth, as long as within the enamel, is a minimally invasive procedure and can improve confidence in your smile.
As this technique is so mimimally invasive start here and if you wish to look at further improvements then you could start looking at veneers.
I hope this helps
