Should I get invisalign braces or a six month smile program?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

Hi, I am 24 years old. I have been looking into having my teeth straightened for some time now. I am really unhappy with the appearance of my smile. I have had a consultation with an orthodontist and following x-rays and impressions I have been told that I have over crowding on both upper and lower teeth, my two front top teeth stick out almost 7mm more than my bottom front teeth so I am self conscious of this. I have a gap where one of my molars has been removed and my dentist said that this would cause a problem with invisalign braces. He advised that I have an implant after the orthodontic treatment. I was quoted between £5000-£6000 for invisalign or £2500 for fixed braces with clear brackets and told that they would be fixed for 12-18 months. As I am a teacher I am keen to look into the least noticeable options. Would you recommend the six month smile program? Ho much would it cost in the UK? I live near Cardiff. Thank you very much.

Q.

For how is the treatment? If I am in age 26 is it too late? is it painful? do you have to change invisalign every month? Can I pay monthly?

Thanks.

One of my teeth has shifted since I’ve had my braces off, how can I fix this?

Thursday, November 18th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr I have had the whole process of braces in my teens. I did everything that the dentist told me but for a few years now one tooth had started to move back. Just to let you know its the tooth next to the front two teeth, I think it is called the lateral incisor? I have visited the dentist for several check up’s and every time she says there is nothing that she can do to move the tooth forward to its original position.Overall I have nice teeth but its that one tooth that makes my whole smile look wonky. What do you think I should do? Thank you,

Can I close the gaps in my teeth without resorting to braces?

Thursday, November 18th, 2010
Q.
Hi I had a brace on my top teeth when I was a teenager. They removed my first premolars (I think thats the name, the pointy ones!) The brace was meant to close the gap but was taken off too early and I now have gaps, one on each side. I am an actress and want to close the gaps. I’d prefer to avoid getting a brace again. Is this doable?

Can I correct my misplaced midline without using braces?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Caplan im a 21-year-old girl living currently in UAE , I started orthodontic treatment when i was 11 ,and at 15 I had my perfect desired teeth , but recently im realizing that I have a really big problem that is getting worst day by day , its misplaced midline , my upper central teeth are completely moved to left and replaced by my left latral tooth , im losing my confidence and since im 21 and its really embarrassing to use metal braces , I wanted to know is there any method that this flaw could be fixed at this age ? (I forgot to mention that I still have my wise teeth ) Thank You,

Having previously had braces, will I be able to have them fitted again by a NHS dentist?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I had 4 teeth taken out and a fixed metal braces when I was younger, but my dentist took these off before the gaps had fully closed. I was just happy to have them off at the time. But now at 23 I am conscious of these gaps as you can see them when I smile, and my front teeth have moved forward rather than sitting straight. So, my question is, is private the only way I can get the ‘perfect smile’ or can I get braces again with an NHS dentist (obviously I would have to pay), and if so what braces do the NHS offer and what are the average prices? I think I would probably prefer the wire behind the teeth! But would like to know my options. Many Thanks For your time!,

Can I get invisible braces fitted if I have incisor protruding and misaligned teeth?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I have the flowing issues that i’d like to get resolved and as the quality of my teeth is good (I don’t want veneers etc) I wonder if these issues are likely to be able to be fixed using invisble braces? • Upper lateral incisor protruding • Upper First and second bicuspid narrow • Slight (2mm) misalignment between centre of top central incisor and bottom centre of central incisors,

Can invisalign braces be fitted to teeth that have a crown fitted?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
Hello. I have a crown on one of my top, central incisors which I have had for about 8 years. I have noticed over the last year or so that my top front teeth are becoming crooked – specifically, the tooth with the crown is moving forward very slightly. I am very unhappy with the effect this has on my smile and wanted to look into Invisalign braces or something similar (something discreet) but my question is whether it would be OK to undergo such treatement with a crown fitted, or whether the braces would cause the crown to break off, rather than realigning it and the remaining tooth underneath. Please advise me. Thank you.,
