My 3 Unit Bridge Has Been Poorly Fitted And Now My Gum Is Inflamed. How Should I Proceed?

Wednesday, August 13th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I had 3 unit front teeth dental bridge done 4 years ago. I noticed that the gum is red above the abutment teeth. I am not sure when this started. My dentist says my bridge was poorly fitted hence the inflammation. He fitted a temporary bridge and said the inflammation would disappear but two weeks later it hasn’t. I also noticed that the crowns go deep into the gum line. I am afraid of receding gums due to this bridge. How should I proceed? Should I get a denture? Or should I opt for an implant? What should I do? Thanks.

I Can’t Sleep As My Tooth Is Really Painful. Do You Know What Is Causing This?

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013
Q.

Good morning. I just want to ask how I could release the pain in my tooth because inside my right front tooth it’s really painful I can’t even touch it because it’s so painful and it’s affecting the others sometimes? I haven’t slept all night because of the pain the only way to reduce the pain is when I drink cold water and take Ibuprofen but most of the time it doesn’t work. Do you have any idea why this is? Do I need to see my dentist? Many thanks, I really hope you can help me Dr Gambroudes.

One of my new crown feels tight and one tooth is now sensitive. Is there inflammation? What should I do?

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012
Q.

I had the crowns on my two front teeth replaced six months ago after root canal treatment. The crowns have felt “tight” ever since they were placed, and one of the teeth is sensitive to touch. My dentist has buffed them down four times now (including, last time, filing one of the lower teeth) to try and correct the bite, but to no avail. I had a consultation with another dentist who saw a very slight shadow on the x-ray that he thought might possibly be inflammation, but he wasn’t sure. Subsequent x-rays taken by the dentist who fitted the crowns showed no inflammation (according to him). Post root-canal and pre-crowns I had no pain or discomfort. What would you advise? More filings, a second opinion? I’m not in bad pain, just some discomfort, but the situation isn’t very satisfactory. My dentist is very thorough, but he isn’t a specialist in cosmetic dentistry, could that be a factor?

I was woken up on friday night, with really sharp throbbing pains in my tooth, molar, which was crowned about 6 months ago, I have been taking painkillers for 2 days but is no good, pain is still there and is strong, do you think i have an infection in my crown?what could this be? I have not had any root treatment for this tooth. I have had another crown on a different tooth, but that has not given me any problems, I havent made an dentist appointment yet should I make one? Should I have root canal treatment prior to crowns being fitted?

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011
Q.

Is it best, or should I say good practice, to have root canal treatment carried out prior to the crown being fitted even if the root of the tooth appears healthy?

Would a apicoectomy help reduce inflammation following a root canal or is extraction necessary?

Friday, November 26th, 2010
Q.

I’ve had two RCTs from the same endodontist and in both cases, the pain remained. X-rays are fine. second opinion agreed. He will not redo the RCTs, only extract. I saw on the X-ray that sealand had leaked. Would that cause inflammation? Would an apicoectomy help? I face losing two teeth. also, is tooth ache after three days normal post-op (after two relatively pain free days?)

Should I return to the dentist if antibiotics have relieved my tooth pain but I am unable to put pressure on my tooth?

Wednesday, November 24th, 2010
Q.

Hi, I went to the dentist this week as I had waves of intense pain, ear ache and jaw ache, and medication wasn’t touching it. The dentist did an xray and couldn’t see anything wrong. My fillings that side looked normal, there were no tooth cracks either. However my wisdom tooth can be felt above my teeth and is inflamed. I have now been reffered to the hospital to have this removed. I was also given antibiotics. My question is, I am now 2 and a half days into my antibiotics and the very bad pain has gone, however I cant bite down as there is pain on one tooth. It’s so bad I cant eat as I cant put any pressure on it. Will the antibiotics clear this or is it something my dentist has missed? Should I return to the dentist before my course of Antibiotics is finished?

I have food stuck underneath my gum-line. Will it cause any harm to leave it there?

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010
Q.
I got two really tiny flat bits of food (pepper I think) stuck at the top of one of my canines, and in trying to get them out, I pushed them up further, under the gum. Now I can just very faintly see tiny shadows underneath my gum at the top of my tooth (though apparently my friend can’t see them!) The tooth is right at the front of my mouth & I don’t want to damage the gum by trying further to get the bits out. There is no inflammation. Will it cause any harm to leave the bits there? Will they come out by themselves or get worse? Thanks for any help you can give!,
