Is An Implant My Only Option?

Wednesday, July 17th, 2013
Q.

Had a crown for front tooth at least 20 it came loose after about 5 years dentist x-rayed it and refitted which was fine for about 4 years then infection showed up under crown dentist tried to get crown off but it would not budge so used cement to firmly fix it in place as said pulling it off could fracture tooth root. Had regular check ups and all has been well until I had an accident whereby I was hit in the mouth crown is now moving loose by the gum line. Old dentist now gone from practice but new dentist says he will do nothing and recommends implant. Is this only option?

What Should I Do If I’ve Cracked The Post Of My Crown

Thursday, April 4th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr. Moore
I had a crown fitted with post (a short post, apparently) some seven years ago on my large upper front incisor.
I recently bit down hard on a tiny piece of chicken bone (not knowingly!), suffering pain and very slight forward displacement of tooth.
Visited local walk in Teaching Hospital and X-Ray showed that the post was broken, with the crown intact.
There is slight movement to tooth, no constant pain and no signs of infection.
My questions;
1. Is it possible to replace post and/or crown
2. Will I lose the tooth
3. What are the chances of infection and further damage
4. What are my options
Regards.

My crown was infected and I strongly think I need a root canal, what should I do?

Monday, March 14th, 2011
Q.

For about 6 months I have had a crown that is loose, it caused a lot of pain when it became infected and I was given metrodindazole (or something like that!). The pain has now vanished for some 5 weeks but my dentist says she will not do a “root canal” because it “could” return. Surely lots of things “could” occur but lots of times they “don’t” occur. I feel strongly that an attempt should be made to save my tooth and she will not give any reason for her refusal except the one I have just given you. Please, advise.

Thanks

Front crown is showing signs of infection and I have been recommended its removal, followed by implants and dentures. Does this sound right? Can I get it on the NHS?
