My 6 yrs old lost both his incisors one of them has come out how long should i wait for the other

Sunday, June 21st, 2009
Q. My daughter, who is nearly 6, lost both of her incisors at the same time. Two months later her canines fell out. My concern is that although one of her incisors has grown through the other one hasn’t. And as already mentioned her canines are also now beginning to show through even though they fell out two months laster. I am worried that she has not got an incisor to come out and I was wondering whether if this can be possible and if so what can I do to help her. No one in our family has ever had this problem, although I have read on the internet that adult teeth in children can sometimes be missing and that it is genetic. Please help. How long should I wait before I can be sure that she hasn’t got a tooth to come out.

A. I would ask your dentist to take an x-ray of the area to check the teeth erupting.  She is quite young, the teeth maybe under the gum as they don’t always come through in pairs at the same time

Monday, June 1st, 2009
Q. Hey Yesterday I was airsofting when a plastic pelet struck my Lateral Incisor tooth. It crasked the tip taking 1/5 of the tooth off. Also alot of the back of the tooth was taking off. It hurts a little when I poke the back with my tong… What does this mean and can it be fixed? Thanks!

A. You need to get this checked out as soon as possible, most of the time teeth can be fixed with crowns or fillings

i have a gap on my top incisors and one of them is also rotated clockwise can this be fixed

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009
Q. I have a gap on my top fron incisors which is slowly expanding (at 2mm at the the moment). one of them is also rotated clockwise by 5 degrees. How can this be fixed as economically as possible?

A. You might need to see a dentist for some quotes regarding orthodontic treatment, you might also consider using white filling to bond to the teeth to make the gap look smaller

how can i fix my broken pin supporting my smaller incisor?

Monday, April 6th, 2009
Q. My front incisor which was capped but supporting the smaller incisor beside it via a titanium (I think?) pin, broke off at gum level yesterday leaving a large gap! What are my options? Can you use the healthy root of the main incisor as the anchor for a pin? The canine tooth beside the smaller incisor is completely in tact. Could the ‘floating’ incisor be mounted on that? What would all of that cost – roughly if it’s at all possible that is?

A. Without assessing your mouth i really cannot advise you on your options and there are many factors that have to be considered.

I advise that you book in with your dentist to have an assessment and an xray taken of this area. Then you will be in the position to be correcly advised of all your options.

For a straight smile can my incisors be trimmed or is this being daft?

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q. I have two ?incisors at the front of my mouth that look much bigger than the two next to my two front teeth (top). Basically for a straight smile can they be trimmed or is this being daft?

A. The 2 upper central incisors should be bigger. However if they are out of proportion then some adjustment could be a good way of improving their apperance

i used to have a gap on both sides of my incisors

Friday, March 13th, 2009
Q. I used to have a gap on both sides of my incisors between them and the lateral incisors. over time 1 closed to a amount i am comfortable with but 1 remains large. is it possible for this gap to shrink naturally? if my 3rd molars come in straight will this shift the teeth shrinking the gap? please respond, i have been obsessing over this.

A. Hi
there is research to say it wont but this  is an area debated in dentistry.
my best advice would be to see your dentist and rule out the reasons why it could be happening, but dont rely on the wisdom teeth theory

my incisor is cracked

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009
Q. Dear Sir/Madam, I’m writing to ask about incisor repair. My friend’s one of the incisor is cracked. She had treatment before , the back of incisor was granded thinner and patched with a half incisor sized artificial teeth. So the patch is attached to the front part of the incisor. But this time the crack happens to the front part. The cracked piece is about 2mm size. Could you suggest a likley treatment and how much it would cost? Many thanks, Jay

A. The decision on whether a crown , veneer, or refill would be taken when the tooth is seen. NHS costs £44.60 or £198 private costs £150-700 very rough guide as there may other work involved.

One of my upper incisors B didn’t grow It is genetics

Thursday, December 11th, 2008
Q. Hello, One of my upper incisors (B) didn’t grow. It is genetics. My sister don’t have one of the incisors (B) too. They move her teeth so the big gap size of a tooth dissapeared. In my case they put a temporary porcelain tooth which is glued with some special glue to my incisor (A) and canin. I was supposed to have a surgery where they would give me implant. But I don’t want to have implant. I am just 22 years old and I don’t want to have fake tooth all my life. I would like to have my teeth moved, so the space, where is porcelain tooth now, will be gone. They did this with my sisters teeth so it is possible isn’t it? It doesn/t matter that the gap is big as a tooth? I would like to ask you if it can be done and if it can be done with Invisalign. Thank You very much

A. The larger the space the harder it is to close. You will probably need normal fixed braces to achieve this, especially with adults. Consult an experienced Orthodontist and ask them to give you a full treatment plan and options

I’m 21 years old and I definitely dont want any braces

Friday, November 28th, 2008
Q. Hey, I’m 21 years old and I definitely dont want any braces. But, I have this one tooth between my incisor and canine which is completely crooked. It looks like I have a gap in my top half set, and then when you look close enough there is a tooth sitting at a 45 degree angle between two other teeth. Do you think if I had my widsom tooth in the top right corner of my mouth removed, my crooked tooth would straighten up? And if so, how long would it take? Thanks

A. It is very difficult to give you an answer without seeing you.  It is highly unlikely removal of a wisdom tooth would cause your teeth to straighten naturally.  Orthodontics can now be done in a number of ways and is probably the best way to straighten your teeth.

I am having four old crowns replaced at the front

Thursday, November 13th, 2008
Q. I am having 4 old crowns replaced at the front ,the 4 upper incisors either side of two front teeth, (they where 23years old) .For the first time I was having pain in my lower and upper jaw . I believed it was because the temporaries where too tight ,so returned to dentist yesterday and he removed them and replaced with individual temporaries. At 4 o`oclock this morning I awoke with this throbbing pain returning to my lower jaw . I`m losing confidence in my dentist. To put on the new temporaries he took 1.5 hours. By which time the novocaine was wearing of and I was v.sensitive to the placing and removal of the crowns . He seemed to fit each one around 4 times ,off and on. This is not normal as I have had crowns fitted for the last 34 years,I have never suffered with temporaries before. What is going on?

A. Difficult to say without seeing you .  A possible cause is the lower teeth catching on the temoporaries as your lower jaw moves forwards.  In my experience this would usually give you pain in the temporised teeth and not the opposing teeth.  I fthis is the case adjustment of the back of the upper temps should help. He is obviously taking great care in trying to give you the best work possible if he is taking that amount of time to refit your temporaries.

I have a gap between my front incisor

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008
Q. Hi, I have a gap between my front incisor and the next tooth (can’t think what that one is called) i would like this gap closed, but have been told that i would have to have all of my teeth shaved down from canine to canine just to close this gap! Is there anything else that could be done? I don’t really want to destroy perfectly healthy teeth. My teeth really bother me and I am looking to have the work done ASAP. I look forward to your response. Regards

A. Hi, many thanks for your enquiry, there are many options to close gaps, one of these options are veneers which is what you have described but other options are much less aggressive. the best thing would be to seek a cosmetic dentist like myself to help in discussing all the options and hopefully we can find a solution to your problem. i will arrange for a member of my team to call you to book this appointment.

I have a gap because my lateral incisors are missing

Friday, August 15th, 2008
Q. Hi Dr Suri. some reason my lateral incisors (upper) never grew. As a result, I have a gap between my central incisors (probably drofted apart) and two gaps where my lateral incisors should be. I should also point out that I have ‘27′ teeth in all so I’m guessing there’s a few more missing (probably molars). I’d really like to get my teeth sorted cuz I haven’t smiled in years!! What procedure would you suggest that I undergo?

A. Thank you for your question. Congenitally missing lateral incisors is an hereditary condition and it can also mean that other teeth don’t develope as well. You need a combination of braces and restorative work. The two front teeth need to be moved together to close the gap between them and the open up the gap for the laterals. You then have 2 options. The first is to have implants placed in the gaps. This is the ideal treatment because implants don’t rely on other teeth for support and therefore adjacent teeth are not damaged. They also last a very long time.
The second option is to have two bridges made to fill the gap. Ths may involve shaving down one or both of the teeth on the side of the gap to cap them and add the false tooth in the middle. This is obviously more destructive than having implants placed. A bridge can last for a long time, on average approximately 10 years. If looked after it can last longer but when it fails the other teeth will be damaged as well.
If you have a dentist already, ask to be referred to an orthodontist for an opinion. If not then the best thing to do is to find a cosmetic/ restorative dentist and preferably one that can place implants or works closely with an implant dentist and orthodontist. The treatment may take some time but you are young and it will be worth it. If dentists offer you quick fix solutions these may sound appealing, however they may not be stable and will probably not be the best option for you.
If you are within travelling distance of the practice I would be happy to see for a consultation. There is no charge for the appointment.
You can contact the practice via e-mail if you wish
Kind Regards

I have twisted, crowded teeth and my teeth are moving what is the treatment cost?

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008
Q. Hi, I basically have a cost question. I have a few issues with my teeth, nothing major but enough that I’m considering having them fixed. I can’t seem to find a cost-quote though, I’ve read a load of material but nothing with a price-list!.. Anyway, the problems I have are:

1) I have a twisted tooth on the lower jaw, it’s the one immediately to the right of my left incisor. It’s always been twisted so I was wondering if this was fix-able and also what the cost of doing it would be.

2) Again on the lower jaw, the second tooth from the left incisor has moved forward from the others, this has happened within the last 6months or so. It has always been slightly forward but it seems to have moved more recently. It has, however, set in place now so I was, again wondering if this was fix-able and also at what cost.

3) The most urgent problem I have is with my upper jaw, the tooth to the right of the “big2″ has moved behind the big2 somewhat. This happened pretty much overnight, perhaps due to sleeping on my arm. It felt sore for a while but then it seemed to set in place, then again a few weeks later I awoke to find it was sore once more. It has basically popped behind the “big2″ and the right incisor, so again, was wondering if this is fixable and at what cost.

Those are the three things I would like to have fixed if possible, and if you could provide me with a quote/ortho-reccomendation, I’d be more than grateful! Also, as a side-note, I’m 21 and male. And a general point is that I think my teeth may be a little “crowded” since they sometimes feel cramped and I’m guessing this is why the teeth have moved around, lack of space may be causing them to migrate!.. Anyway, thank you in advance for your time and response. It’s much appreciated and a big help. Kind Regards K

A. Dear K,
My first thoughts are that you need to diagnose why the teeth have moved and how stable they are. This is hugely important, to find out if there is a reason, such as gum disease causing bone loss around the teeth, as you must correct it before starting any cosmetic stuff. Also it might affect the best way of tackling the problem you have. Our prices are on the website www.e-dentalpractice.co.uk in the services section download the pdf on the right side of the page.

My Second thoughts are that 21years old is young for gum problems and that sleeping on your arm should not affect healthy teeth.

If you can make to central Birmingham shops/financial district I can offer a free no obligation assessment to give you some options and some prices to consider and at that point you might even be able to price compare. It can be tricky to make comparisons if you haven’t got the basic agreement on the treatment route or the specifications so this would be a good start.
