Could you suggest treatment for broken tooth?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q. I have a crown for a missing front tooth, supported by two at either side. After taking x rays my dentist says that one of this tooth is broken at gum level. She removed my crown today, and couldn’t do anything. She suggested either a tooth implant(done by another dentist) or another bridge with 5 pieces, which I think is too much just to support one missing tooth. I got no idea what to do now. Could you suggest something. Many Thanks,
A. I would suggest an implant as this is the optimal treatment to replace missing teeth; as it doesn’t affect the adjacent teeth, is often easier to keep clean, is very strong and looks very natural

Would implants be best option to replace gapped teeth?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q. I had a large gap between my two front teeth and my eye teeth are missing. I had two braces – the first one didn’t work at all – they sprung back before the retainer could be fitted and after the second one I had a wire put on to the back of them to keep them together. But the side teeth moved to create two gaps either side and the front ones began to cross. I then opted for four crowns to fill the gaps but in order to do this they are so big I look awful – like a horse and have no confidence. And I STILL have a gap in the front as even the crowns couldn’t stop them moving apart. I cannot see the way forward: If I have smaller crowns it won’t fill the gaps. Would implants work – can they only be placed where the teeth were before so would still have to be big? I’m 27 and have spent all my life dreading opening my mouth to talk to people or smile. What, if anything can be done? Thanks,
A. It sounds as though you are in real need of good cosmetic dentistry.  If your gap keeps opening up it will be caused by your bite and the shape of the back of the crowns.  You may need your teeth splinted together to stop the gaps opening up.  You definitely sound as though you need your bite and gum health carefully assessed to diagnose why your teeth keep separating.  I would love to help you – please contact my surgery for a free consultation.

Can I have a bridge instead of implants?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q. I have to have my four lower front teeth extracted due to gum disease and my dentist suggests that I have a partial denture placed directly after the extraction. Later on he suggest that I have implants to replace the extracted teeth. My question is whether a bridge could be used instead of the implants and if it is an option, which is the best option in the long run?,
A. If the adjacent teeth to the gap are strong than a bridge might be an option the teeth would have to be examined.  if you have suffered with gum disease than the bone may not be strong.   I think implants are the best long term solution.

How to repair a newly implant tooth when it seems wobbly?

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009
Q. Dear Sir Please help me to advise how to repair a newly implant tooth when it seems wobbly. I had 2 implant teeth with a middle bridge. I would have thought that the reason for this is one of the implant is not deep enough. When i first had the implant, part of gum and 1/2 of my chin became num for a long time. Then the dentish had decided to lift the implant 3mm from the bottom of the jaw. Please help me to advise what i need to do. These have been done recently, just 3 weeks ago. I look forward to hearing from you. Much apreciated. Kind regards

A. There can be 2 causes for the looseness- either the bridge needs to be refixed or the implants are failing.  You need to ring your dentist ASAP to reduce the chances of the latter situation.

How much will dental implants cost for my front six teeths

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009
Q. How much will it cost the implant of the front six toths, but still have not take them out yet.

A. All depends on how many implants you need and the type of final restoration you require.  Also you may need bone grafting if bone is lacking.  The best thing to do would be to come an see me for a consultation to discuss this matter further

Could the dental implants be placed at the time the teeth is removed

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009
Q. I am considering a complete lower jaw implant procedure that will involve removal of some remaining teeth. Would I have to wait for a healing period after extractions, or could the implants be placed at the time the teeth are removed.

A. If the bone is sound then place the plants at the same time if possible

Do you think dental implants would benefit me please advice

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009
Q. Dear Mr Moore..I am a 42 year old woman who has always visited the dentist, and have alays had to have work done, i have not got very good teeth & have many out in the front and have bridge work also. The remainig teeth up top i dread wont last must longer due to stress… i am considering having dental implants (about seven) but i am a very nervous paient. Do you think they would benifit me & could you see any reason why i couldnt have them. What would be your advise when i research a dentist.. I look forward to your reply.Regards

A. Without seeing you I don’t really know how much 7 impalnts would make but in the majority of cases it would make a big diference. If you need implants try to find an experienced implant dentist perhaps one with Dip Imp Dent after his/her name or an MSc in implant dentistry. If your close to my clinic I would gladly take a look for you- Andrew

Ive a bone recession Is a sinus lift successful and painful?

Monday, December 21st, 2009
Q. I had a number of teeth removed wen I was 17,(unfortunately )mainly back lower right and left and 2 under left sinus.Obviously I have bone recession.Implants would be the way to go I presume for appearances. Is a sinus lift succesful, painful?.I have history nose fracture /septolplasty.How soon can one fly after it and swim.Is it expensive.I am 52 non smoker .

A. Sinus lifts are fairly routine and have a high success rate.  Pain after surgery depends on each individual case.  As with all surgery you should leave traveling a reasonable time after surgery – ayour surgeon will advise you depending on the type of surgery you have.

Im 18yrs old and I need to get a dental implant how much would it cost?

Friday, December 18th, 2009
Q. Hello. I am 18 years old and i lost my front tooth during an accident at school. I would like to have implant. could you please tell me how much it will cost as i would like to know price before i decide to come for consultation. I also like to know, if i am full time student, will my implant cost less. Thanks for your help. Your faithfully

A. Hello Thanks for your message, a normal dental implant and completed final tooth will cost around £1900, unfortunatley because implants are not available on the NHS, there is no discounts for students. I do run a course for dentists where we can offer the treatment at a reduced rate. If you come in for a consultation I can see if you  ight be a suitable case.Regards  Andrew

How much would it cost for 7 Dental implants

Friday, December 18th, 2009
Q. Doc how much cost of 7 tooth implant,or the cost per piece tooth implant, coz i have 7 tooth missing, thanks.

A. I charge per implant with crown from £1900.  Many times only 3 or 4 implants need to be placed to repl

ace missing teeth so it is not a simple multiple but rather each case needs to be priced individually

I have lost my front tooth is dental implant the right option

Friday, December 18th, 2009
Q. Hi Rob I want a permanent solution to my smile. I had an overbite when I was a kid and to correct this I had porcelain crowns in my upper jaw. Since then I have lost my front two teeth which has now been replaced by a platics denture, which is annoying and affecting my eating. After lots of research I think my answer is a dental implant. I do smoke and also have HIV (but my health is good) Could you please advise what options would be avaiable to me. I would like to try and keep costs down and wondered what would be avaiable at what price. Kindest Regards

A. The biggest question is whether you have a good volume of residual bone where you lost the teeth. Dental implants need to anchored in healthy bone. If you have lost a lot of bone you will need an additional bone graft procedure. Most implantologists would want you to quit smoking before starting treatment.Cost of a single tooth crown and implant £2500- 3000 including minor bone shaping but major bone grafts would be in addition and costed for the specific case.Regards Rob0121 643 0610 for further information.

My teeth are crumbling can I have implants?

Thursday, December 10th, 2009
Q. I HAVE HAD ALOT OF TROUBLE WITH MY TEETH AND MY BITE IS NOT RIGHT AND MY TEETH ARE JUST CRUMBLING I HAVE HAD CROWNS WHICH HAVE KEPT COMING OUT MY DENTIST WOULD NOT CROWN MY FRONT TEETH AND TALKED ME INTO TAKING THEM OUT PLUS 2 CROWNS AND PUT THEM ON A PLATE . CAN I HAVE IMPLANTS DOWN THE LINE WHEN I CAN AFFORD THEM.I AM DEVASTATED

A. Thanks for your questions, in order for implant treatment to be carried out, there would need to be a good amount of bone in the area of the missing teeth. However, if this is not the case, there would be the option of a bone graft. I would recommend that you consult with a dentist who offers implant treatments, to establish the feasability of this treatment. Many dentist will offer a free initial consultation, including myself, so that you can discuss the treatment involved and the costs which will be incurred without making a financial commitment. I hope this will be helpful to you, but please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.Kindest RegardsDr Kailesh Solank

I am assuming that my implants for full dentures causing neck pain.

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009
Q. I had mini implants for full dentures in August but have been experiencing severe pain in my neck head & ears for several weeks. Could this be caused by the implants?

A. It is unlikely it is coming form the implants but may be muscle spasm that could be due to how the dentures bite together.  Obviously please see your implant dentist asap

What ball park figure would be acceptable for having implant?

Monday, December 7th, 2009
Q. I am 63, had five front teeth ( 4 incisors and one cuspid) removed between the age of 17 and 21. I have all my other teeth intact. I have never got used to a partial, and wondered if there was anything else I could try at my age and so long after removal. ie implants of some sort. I know that if there is not enough bone left it can theoretically be grafted from elsewhere, but realistically, do you think this is possible and what sort of ball park figure would I be looking at if it were?

A. This is possible but you will  need a CT scan to be properly assessed.  A ball park figure for this type of treatment would be !0k to 15K depending on how difficult the case is

Does health issues like high blood pressure and others have effect on dental surgery?

Monday, December 7th, 2009
Q. Would having very high blood pressure mean implants were dangerous, what other health problems would be a problem

A. If you have high blood pressure it is likely that you are on medication which would need to be taken into consideration with any surgery.  Other health problems can be a potential problem such as diabetes, leukemia, Pagets disease etc and would also need to be properly asessed before treatment begins

A. Implants are definitely a possibility but you need to be assessed for available bone using a CT scanner and you may need bone grafts
