Please help me in getting golden teeth.

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. Hello Doctor I have a existing upper denture with four mollars on the right side and three on the left and two front teeth, could I have the two front teeth changed to gold. Many thanks

A. In this situation – as long as the remaining teeth are healthy – I use crowns and precision attachments to hold a denture firmly in place.  This produces a result that is very stable and removable.  If you wish for a non-denture solution then implants are a possibility – you would probably require bone grafting to allow for there to be enough bone available for implant placement.  Hope this helps

What kind of pain can I expect after implants?

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q. What kind of pain can i expect after implantof two teeth

A. Usually minimal discomfort that can be controlled by standard painkillers.  This is normally necessary for only a few days- some people have minimal pain depending on their pain threshold.

I have been suggested dentures and implants do I have other options?

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. Hi I have recently suffered a fracture to my upper right canine which had a cantilever bridge attached with a pontic for the lateral incisor. I have the same arrangement on the left upper side and two veneers on my central incisors. This is because I never got my permanent lateral incisors. My dentist says the only option for me is a denture or implants. I really don’t want to go back to having a denture but I don’t think I can afford implants. Would it not be possible to have another type of bridge using my front incisor and the canine for support? As What other options could I have? thanks

A. This is a possibility but you need to be properly assessed

My porcelain teeth has broken twice what could be the cause?

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. I have a dental implant on my front tooth. the porcelain tooth has broken twice, once biting on an apple and lastly biting on a provita cracker. the metal part of the implant did not move and x-rays show it’s still totally inplace (I had bone graft taken from hip 1 year prior to implant placement) My question is could it be due to poor quality porcelain? what else can cause it to break in half widthwise twice? should I avoid biting on any hardish food in future? I do not grind my teeth at night. There is no stress pressure apparent from biting down against lower teeth. It’s a bit of a mistery to my dentist too!

A. It may be a material issue but it is likely be due to a bite issue – especially in lateral movement

After my bridge broke I am considering implants please suggest.

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. I had a bridge spanning a gap of two front teeth attached to one canine and one incisor(think thats what its called middle front top) The bridge broke this week and broke the root of the front incisor and broke the post in half in the canine. My dentist says there is no option but to remove them and have a plate. As I have Sjogrens Syndrome, a dry mouth, I am looking for a different option if possible. I take 7.5mg of prednisolone daily for polymyalgia rheumatica and 150mg monthly of ibandronic acid for my bones to stop osteoporosis. Could I be a candidate for implants? Should implants be put in at extraction or do you wait till its healed? Obviously there is a gap where two have been extracted many years ago which would require implants as well. Advise please as extraction is pencilled in for Thursday next week

A. I would try to find a dentist who migt be able to offer you the cahnce of immediate implants, even if you turn out not to be a suitable candidate. In the long run you should still be able to have implants rather than a plate. If your in my area I would be quite happy to take a look for you. contact me on implant@advancedentalclinic.com

I would like to replace my dentures with implants is it possible?

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. Hi, I have full upper dentures, I have had them for years. I am 41, and would like to know if it is possible for me to consider dental implants? I seem to find conflicting advice on the Internet, and I am unsure if it is worth pursuing any further. I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

A. Hello , It will be possible to place implants but you may need the bone rebuilding prior to the implant placement if the teeth have been missing for a  long time. The next thing to do is to find a dentist to assess you and to arrnage a CT scan to measure the exact amount of bone available for implants to decide what can be acheived. let me know if you’d like me to take a look- implant@advancedentalclinic.comregards  Andrew

Need the cause and solution for my overbite issue?

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. Dear Experts, I have had 2 front teeth replaced by crowns and implants as a result of an accident. Unfortunately there are some discoloring at the top of the crowns where it meet the gumline which is unsightly. What can be done to rectify this? Also, it may sound silly, but it feels as if my teeth are too short and the bite is all wrong. My jaw and jaw muscles gets really sore when I close my mouth, trying to rest the top and bottom jaw on each other. So as a result, trying to compensate for the pain, I try and rest it on the front teeth. Unfortunately, then it creates an uncomfortable, clenching overbite. It is a very uncomfortable and painful situation and I would appreciate advice on how to correct this.

A. Firstly the crown may need replacing to correct the aesthetic problem. The bite problem is more complex and will need thorough investigation and teatment, perhaps involving a bite guard worn at night and the possible correction of the crowns.

Can I have implants to support two missing teeth?

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. Hello Dr. Moore, I have a dental bridge for a missing teeth for past 18 years (front upper). In order to strenthen the present arraingment and for cosmetic looks I was considering an implant not available as option when I did the bridge. Is it a good idea to replace the missing tooth with implant and using this also to support the two teeth around it (originally used to make the bridge) ? Or what would be the best option. Thank you and Best Regards,

A. You would need 1 implant for 1 tooth or 2 implants for 2 missing teeth, this would help with the strength of the teeth at the front of the mouth.

Can my previous bridges be reused?

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. I lost 3 front teeth in an auto accident 16 years ago. At that time the dentist made crowns for adjoining 5 teeth in the form of a bridge. The bridge has now let go due to decay of (what used to be) healthy natural teeth and I am wanting implants. In this day and age of recycling, reusing and renewing, can my bridge not be retro-fitted for the implants??? Alot of $$$ went into them originally, I find it hard to believe that they cannot be reused.

A. No its a ciustom fitted device so the bridge won’t be used again

My dentist says bridges may cause infection is this true?

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. My regular dentist does not agree with brdges—he says they put more strain on the surrounding teeth and should infection occur then the whole bridge mudt be destroyed to eliminate the infection. I have a tooth missing which can only be rectfied by a bridge –which other dentists seem happy to provide—should I go for this??

A. Implants have a longer success rate usually but bridges can work very well if properly done

Receeding and loose tooth due to low bone density.

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q. I have been told that my bone density is very low and as a result have a loose tooth and receding gums, what can be done, im 45

A. If the tooth needs to come out you could consider a dental implant. a a rule though bone density is less important than the way you look after your teeth, your diet and oral hygiene procedures and the condition of the gums. I would find out if this is a general problem rather than a localised one, if the gums are receeding you may need to consider gum treatment to save the rest of the teeth.

My tooth keeps getting infected please look into my issue and suggest.

Thursday, November 26th, 2009
Q. I have had a root filling and a gold cap put over the tooth. The tooth keeps getting infected and it may be better to have it out. I have a 5 tooth bridge one tooth away form from the cap and if nothing is replaced it could undermine the bridge. Ive been told that a good option is to have an implant but the cost is 2,000 which i cannot afford can it be done chaeper or have you got any suggestions?

A. That is a reasonable cost for an implant.  The only other option would be a denture if there is not a tooth either side of the gap

My bad teeth is influencing my daily life please suggest on my issues.

Thursday, November 26th, 2009
Q. I am wondering what help is available to me. I had to have my top teeth from the canine teeth backwards out 10 years ago due to absesses. Since then I have suffered depression with no confidence and can not form a proper relationship in case anybody finds out that I wear a denture. I have been to a dental hospital who estimated it would cost £30,000 with bone taken from my hip. I have heard of other ways of having implants cheaper without the bone from my hip. Would the NHS be able to contribute because I have suffered with depression for all these years and lost out on 10 years of my life? Every dentist I have gone to have been very unsympathetic and it has come to the point where I can not bear daily life because of this. I think of my teeth 24/7 and it has restricted my life in so many ways. I would be grateful of any advice you can give me or who to go to next. I can not afford to go private Please help.

A. Unfortunately your only root is to have a dental hospital treat you – possibly if you can become involved with a postgraduate programme. Sorry I cannot be of more help

Does implants not fix a denture with bone loss issues?

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
Q. I am due to begin work for a full upper denture on 17/11 due to the loss of all byt 4 of my upper teeth. This was due to gum disease causing bone loss, passed down from my parents! My dentist tells me that an implant to fix a denture in would not stay put due to bone loss? Is this correct? Glad I found this site, and someone to answer my question, thank you!

A. Implants can usually be placed but you may need bone grafting to increase the amount of bone available

I want your suggestion on wearing dentures

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
Q. I currently wear dentures but the lower was originally made with a bar on a few of my teeth; but then one side came out of the gum; so the dentist removed the other side; so I’ve been wearing the lower using the pad. Now, I did go to a dentist who made a new complete set; however, I can not wear them-the lower-the first time the front teeth was almost laid out flat; so I couldn’t bite, chew, talk or sing; so he had it redone & then it was straight up way back behind my top; so I can’t chew-they just sit in the container. What should I do? They were very expensive to not be worn. The dentist did offer to refund half ot the money but at that time I refused. Should I sue him because if I call or go by; there is usually no one there.

A. You should be aware that lower dentures often cause a problem for patients because ther is no plate to support them .  If you need more stability the best option is 2 or 3 implants in the lower jaw to support the lower denture- It is unlikely to be the fault of your dentist and as such does not deserve to be sued

Should I choose non NHS dentures or NHS dentures

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009
Q. I have just been told that my remaining teeth need to be removed and have both upper and lower dentures. I am considering implants but at this time the cost is an issue. I would like an opinion on whether to pay the extra for non nhs dentures in the interim or to have nhs dentures until next year when I can have the implants. Thank You

A. I would guess Private dentures should be a better fit but this depends on who makes them. Implants will provide you with greater stability to the dentures or even fixed teeth. They might be worth paying for in the long run for extra comfort and confidence
