Can not cleaning between the bridges cause bad breath?

Q. My husband had a bridge fitted last year (4 front teeth). He does not floss the area between his bridge teeth and gums – saying that his dentist said it was not necessary as the bridge was tightly fitted and there was no “gap”. He now has bad/stale breath and I believe it is to do with him not cleaning his bridge work properly but he won’t be told. I too have a bridge (1 tooth) and my dentist showed me how to floss the “gap” between bridge and gum. So who’s right?

A. I would advise that your husband visits his dental professional for a hygienist appointment. The hygienist will be able to clean the area, as well as advising your husband on how to care for his bridge. It may however, be that this is not the cause of the bad breath. I hope this helps

Please advise on bad breath with bleeding gum

Q. hi could you help me please my 10 yr old daughter as bad breath her teeth bleed when brushing them.her gums look darker and her teeth dont look right she is also very tierd and feels sick ..because i have never had dental problems b4 i am unsure if this needs emergancy treatment asap she is not in pain with her teeth. or could it wait til tomorrow thank you

A. I am sure your dentist has cleaned your girls teeth to remove the offending plaque

Q. my girlfriend has severe ulcers, pain , painful throat, gumboils( i think they are) tiredness,weak and unwellness, the dentist told her , she needed the hygenist to scrape away the tartar.and that was it. is this normall?

A. hi many thanks for your email, i think your girlfriend sounds like she is run down, and suffering from some form of virus. my advice would be to seek the a second opinion from your GP.

I hv receeding gums around my teeth Plz help

Q. pls help im very worried, just got back from my nhs dentist my gums have started to pull away from some teeth, my dentist said this is due to my age, but im only 27, in the past i did brush to hard, my biggist mistake, i have booked an apoinment at red sky dental spar this is a cosmetic dentist, could they help me to retore my gums around some teeth that have reseeded thanks

A. hi msny thanks for your enquiry, firstly if your gums have receeded around some teeth this can be caused by a number of factors: hard brushing, grinding teeth, stress, gum disease, poor oral hygiene, hereditary. My advice would be to seek a consultation with a periodontist who is more qualified to discuss your recession and also give you some predictable solutions. Red Sky Dental are a good cosmetic practice however have no speciality in periodontics.

My front teeth are sensitive could I get silver cap over it?

Q. im 17 and the side tooth jus next to my front ones are very sensitive and hurts everytime i drink a cold or hot drink could i get a silver cap over it.

A. hi many thanks for your email, i first think deal with the sensitivity, this may be due to a level of poor oral hygiene, if this is the case starting brushing over the gums as well as teeth, start to use a flouride mouthwash and also replace your toothpaste for a sensitivity version. once this has subsided then of course for cosmetic reasons you could have a silver cap over this tooth.

A. Black tea, green tea, red wine and then coffee. Tea without milk is the biggest stainer. Soy sauce can also stain teeth.

My teeth crumbled at the top except about 4 what are my options

Q. All of my teeth crumbled at the top except about 4 during chemotherapy. Now my immune system is compromised. I know that I may need a lot of work, but I am afraid. I am a breast cancer survivor of inflammatory breast cancer. My prognosis is 60 percent chance of reoccurance. What would be your recommendation. I had 1 year of chemotherapy, radiation and a year of herceptin treatment. I have hpb, atrial fibs and rhuemotoid arthritis. Thank you

What would be the cost for repair of chipped teeth?

Q. my two top front teeth are chipped and i am concerned they will chip even more is it possible to repair them, will i have to go private and hoe much roughly will it cost, as i am having trouble finding an nhs dentist.

My mouth has developed burning stabbing sensation Plz advice

Q. Hi Justin – Over the last 5 weeks, I have had antibiotics and used mouthwash constantly to clear up an abscess. On Monday after hygenist treatment, my mouth has developed a burning, stabbing sensation in the gums and also nerve pains in the face. Although now on medication for Oral Thrush, the dentist does not think this is the case. Her feeling is either allergic reaction to mouthwash, or Burning Mouth Syndrome. What do you think?

I hv sores in my gums Plz help

Q. I am 52 years & recentley my teeth have cracked, my gums are so sore & i can not remove the plaque from my teeth. After brushing it is unbearable to use a mouthwash because it feels like it burns. Certain foods makes my gums sore too! Please can you help me.
