Why Have My Teeth Turned Yellow During Brace Treatment?

Tuesday, June 16th, 2015
Q.

Hi. I had Six Month Smile braces fitted a month ago and my teeth have turned a yellow colour. I’m very cautious of the colour of the food I eat. I drink coffee through a straw and clean my teeth regularly. I have spent money on different types of cleaning brushes but to no avail. I use Sensodyne toothpaste and Oral B mouthwash. Friends have commented on them therefore I am very conscious of them. Is there anything I can do?

What Can I Do About My Gum Recession?

Tuesday, May 5th, 2015
Q.

I have gum recession on one front tooth on the bottom and it’s quite deep. I don’t feel any sensitivity usually. I had a check up 3 weeks ago and my dentist hasn’t mentioned anything regarding gum disease. They just said to ease off brushing that tooth very hard. I used to have a piercing there but I did take this out years ago so I don’t think this is what has caused this. I’m now worried about my other teeth heading this way, I think this one of my back upper teeth is now starting to recede slightly I’m also obviously worried about losing this tooth.

What can I do for this?

Thanks.

Has Chewing Food Caused My Gums To Recede?

Wednesday, July 10th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Bohara, I am hoping that you can advise me with something. Is it possible that the gum that surrounds the inner sufaces of the upper molars, at the roof of the mouth, could be gradually worn away or pushed away from the tooth, perhaps caused by years of chewing food?
I am now 40 years old and have very sensitive teeth in this region of my mouth due to the receded gum line and I was wondering what treatment options are available in order to fix or halt this?
The receded gum is on the left side of my face. This is the side that I tend to use most often when chewing food. I have never had any real dental problems until now so I’m not really sure how to go about getting help for this particular issue of mine.Thank you for your help.

How can I keep teeth healthy and free of gum disease?

Monday, March 28th, 2011
Q.

Andrew, as a dentist, what is your ultimate advice and tips to keeping teeth healthy and free of gum disease? Can you really prevent it entirely and do any health factors (ie strength of immune system) have anything to do with it?

Also, should we clean our teeth in warm or cold water? I’ve been using warm (as i’m told it softens tooth bristles and kills bacteria) but is this the correct way?

Many thanks!

Why does my tooth keep rising, 18 months after a root canal?

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011
Q.

I have a molar ( #19) that had a root canal 18 months ago. The tooth continues to rise slightly in the socket, and my dentist has to grind the crown down slightly twice. I do wear a splint at night on the upper teeth. I do not feel any pain in the tooth, but as it continues to rise it meets the upper teeth and begins to become tender in the root area. My question is why does the tooth continue to rise, and will it stop rising?

My molar has cracked in half. Would I be able to get treatment on the NHS? Also, what can be done about brown tooth stains?

Tuesday, November 16th, 2010
Q.
Hello I am unemployed and a part time university student. One of my molars has cracked in half and is causing me some discomfort. Will I be able to get any help with getting this sorted out? Also, I have just given up smoking and have noticed behind my lower central incisors there is alot of brown/black, possibly tobacco staining. What is a good toothpaste to get rid of this? Thanks,

Is cost of hygiene treatment at private practice accurate?

Thursday, March 18th, 2010
Q.
I am registered at a private dentist and currently have a Maternity Exemption. I thought all my routine check ups and hygienic treatments should be free while my Exemption card still valid but my dentist said that the hygienic treatments are not free even with the NHS exemption. The thing is they don’t do the hygienic treatment in one go but asked me to do it in 4 visits and that means I have to pay 4 times. Is that right for them to do that? Many thanks,
