Does an HC2 Exemption Cover Brace Fitting?

Wednesday, April 15th, 2015
Q.

My grandaughter has been attending the same dentist for the last 7 years and having 6 monthly checkups, and has been querying previously why she still has one of her baby teeth.
She is now 19, at university and has been back to the dentist this week and been told that the second tooth is trying to push itself down behind one of her other teeth and she now has an infection in it. She has been told that they will have to take the baby tooth out, and she’ll have to have a brace to correct this long standing problem. She has been told she will have to pay for this treatment and my question is does an HC2 exemption cover the fitting of braces (if she manages to get one), or should she make a complaint against the dentist who obviously has not been doing his job properly for the last 7 years? The other thing is that this is a herediatory problem as her mother had to have a similar brace fitted, and this was picked up by another dentist when she was 10, she had her brace and treatment at the age of 12. I would appreciate your advice please, and guidance as to what to do next. Thanks.

My Son Was Advised That He’ll Have To Pay £150 Toward A New Bridge As The HC2 Certificate Has Changed. Is This True?

Monday, January 20th, 2014
Q.

Hi, my son had a front bridge which has broken as he’s grown. He had his last one for 10 years and he’s now 24. He has recently tried a denture without success as his new dentist was reluctant to replace the bridge (my son has left home now and is a student and has MS and has a HC2 certificate). He could not eat with the denture having to take it out to eat and it affected his speech, the tiny front tooth snapped off after 3 weeks. The dentist has said it will probably happen again as it’s so fragile. My son was advised he’ll have to pay £150 towards new bridge as HC2 has changed – but we can find no evidence of this – and it’s cosmetic. Is it cosmetic if the back of his adjacent teeth were previously ‘shaved’ to hold his old bridge, are they vulnerable if just left? Or will he have to pay £8000 for implants across all three teeth? Is what this dentist says correct? I will pay the £150 if this is correct as he needs this doing for his well being. Many thanks.

Q.
I start a full mouth restauration a year ago.I had all the extraction done on upper and lower jaw ,been healed already with four teeths on upper jaw who require crowns and for teeths on lower jaw who are good.I manage to have 6 implants on my upper jaw but unfortunatly the circumstances change so I get stuck in the midle with an inapropiate temporary bridge on upper jaw and nothing on the lower jaw and I m on incapacity benefit right now and have HC2 certificate as well. What i wanna know if is possible to have at least upper jaw fixed on NHS with bridge on implants taking in consideration i will need 6 abutments as well .I know they are not suported by Nhs,but i would like to know an idea about how much it will cost me .I cant have any finance because of a bad credit but I can’t aford to pay some money montly. It is possible to get cover the amount from NHS and pay some as well?,
