I Am Very Self Conscious Of My Gummy Smile. Can This Be Done Through The NHS As I Am Under 16?

Monday, August 4th, 2014
Q.

As a 15 year old would I be able to have my gummy smile removed and have my two front teeth filed down in line with the rest through the NHS? I am very self conscious of them and I avoid photos. I am also hoping to have a career in acting and I know that having those problems unfixed would jeopardize that. My gummy smile is a few millimetres of gum showing, mainly from a low gum line between each tooth. My two front teeth are also 2 millimetres longer than the the teeth next to them and I would love to have them filed down level to the others. If I can, how much would it cost and how long would take to get an appointment and have it done? Thank you for your time.

They come to far down and I can’t enjoy any kind of social life or take pictures without worrying.  Do you know if crown lengthening would work in my situation or is there some other form of treatment I could consider? I would really appreciate your advice regarding this. It has always something that has always got the way and I can’t get past it without help. Thank you for taking the time to hear me out. I look forward to your reply.

I Show At Least An Inch Of My Gums When I Smile. Can You Advice Me On Which Treatment Options Are Available To Rectify This?

Monday, July 7th, 2014
Q.

Hi there. I’m a 35 year old woman.

I’m concerned with my ‘gummy smile’ which causes me to feel self conscious. I show at least just over half an inch when fully smiling. Can you advise which treatments options are available to me and recommend the best UK dentists to carry out those treatments. A few years ago I had some cosmetic work to cover acid erosion at the top of my 2 front teeth. Would this limit my options? Many thanks.

My Smile Has A Gap And Is Gummy. Is There Anyway I Can Have The Gum Removed And The Gap Closed?

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Patel, I have a gap in between my front two teeth and the gum inbetween my teeth where the gap is, seems to be kind of gummy. Is there anyway I can have the part of my gum removed and something done to where my teeth will close in making the gap smaller within a small amount of time? This has been bothering me all my life and I have been made fun of all 29 years of it. I want better self- esteem. I am a single low income mother. Is there anything that can be done about my problem and if so what’s the cost and where can I get it done? Thank you.

Is There An Alternative To Breaking The Jaw To Fix A Gummy Smile?

Thursday, September 5th, 2013
Q.

Hi, the problem that I would like to to discuss is that I have quite a high smile line, where, if I smile too much my gums show and I’m a little self-concious about it. I was told by my dentist when I was younger and given a brace, that I could have my jaw broke and fixed to sort the problem out, however I didn’t much like the sound of that as you can imagine. However my friend has recently had it done and her smile line looks much better. I am now 21 years old and was wondering if you had an alternative option for a procedure such as this? Many thanks

and kind regards.
