Is Gum Treatment Free for Under 16s?

Friday, July 22nd, 2016
Q.

Hi! I am 14 and have had braces to fix my teeth. I am now on night-time only retainers. I have 3 problems:

1) My gum line is uneven.
2) I lost my first retainers and had to go without them for a while and though I asked to have my teeth straightened as they stuck out a little, I was advised by my orthodontist to ‘just leave it’ and now have retainers in the form of my goofier teeth with my wisdom teeth almost fully grown.
3) My front tooth has a little yellow stain from natural causes.
What I want to know is, will the gum treatment be free for me? Will the stain be able to be removed?
Will I have to still pay for new retainers that fit over my wisdom teeth also?
Thank you.

What Advice Can You Offer About Gingivectomy?

Friday, January 23rd, 2015
Q.

Good morning Dr Hughes. I would like some advice on Gingivectomy, as I would like to have this procedure done but have no idea where to go for this?

I am almost 30 and from since I can remember I have been embarrassed about my gummy smile.  My teeth are nice and straight but very small and when I smile wide all you can see is gums, or so I think.

I would just like some advice as to if this is safe and where to go, plus how much this generally costs.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind Regards.

Hello. I Would Like To Have Treatment For Hypermobile Lip. Could You Help Me Find Someone?

Thursday, June 12th, 2014
Q.

Hello. I hope you can help me Dr Hughes. I would like to have treatment for hypermobile lip. It is something that has bothered me for a long while.
When I smile or laugh, around 8mm of my gum is exposed. I asked my dentist but said he couldn’t really help as gum contouring would probably not reduce my gum enough. I’ve tried botox injections but they didn’t work either.
I’m having trouble trying to find a surgeon or someone who would perform this sort of treatment.
I am happy to travel to London, Birmingham, Manchester etc, Can you help?
Thank you for your time.

My Front Tooth Sticks Out. I’d Like To Know A Way To Fix It Without It Being Extracted?

Friday, May 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hello. I’m 47 and one front tooth sticks out really bad, my dentist said there is nothing he can do, because of gum problems, apart from taking it out. I tend not to smile very much because its very noticeable and I think its gotten worse over the years. If there is anything you can consider for me to bring my smile back I would be very grateful. If there is something you can do without taking it out? I am really frightened of the dentist at the best of times. He also said a crown would not work because it would make my tooth look long.

Are there any alternatives to false teeth for someone with progressively receding gums?

Monday, March 18th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I wonder if you could advise how do you deal with a person who has progressively receding gums and does not want to have dentures? I am 56 and one of my teeth at the front is already quite loose where my gum has receded so badly, I also have crowns at the top. All I can remember of my mums teeth from being a young girl is that she used to take them out every night and they looked false, just like the name. Help, I don’t want the same. Thanks

What can be done about bleeding gums and crooked teeth?

Thursday, February 25th, 2010
Q.
Hello Mr.Moore I am quite concerned with the health and severity of the condition of my teeth/gums. Whilst brushing, my gums bleed quite severly, and in some areas have become enflamed and very very sensitive…even though i am using mouth wash. Additionally small food gets stuck inbetween some of my teeth leaving a nasty smell in my mouth. My teeth are quite crooked and are becoming a hastle for me. I am desperately wanting to get them fixed but i do not know where to turn. Thank you, regards james,
