I Clench My Teeth At Night. Do Metal-Backed Crowns Cause Less Wear Than Porcelain Ones?

Thursday, June 19th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I need 6 front upper crowns (that are 25 years old and metal backed) replaced as one has chipped. Is it true that metal backed crowns cause less wear on opposing bottom teeth (which are quite worn) than fully porcelain ones? I thought having metal backed crowns was now dated? I also apparently grind/clench my teeth at night.

Also is a home whitening system over 2-3 weeks more effective than in surgery zoom as my dentist doesn’t offer zoom due to some EU regulations and says home kit is better?

Is There Any Chance The Adhesive Glue From My Braces Could Cause My Teeth To Chip?

Thursday, January 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Marcus. I brush my teeth twice a day as usual yet over last few years my teeth seem to chip and are becoming thinner. My own dentist said it’s down to personal care. What can I do? Also two of my teeth have been removed due to breaking and I feel like at any time another could break as they look so thin. During my last check up they mentioned I have glue on my teeth from when I had braces at 12/13 years old and that there has been damage around the glue. I feel like I’m getting no answers and that I’ll lose all my teeth if nothing is done.

I’ve Spent A Lot On Dental Surgery And Now My Veneers Are Beginning To Chip. Why Is This Happening?

Thursday, November 28th, 2013
Q.

After an accident with a horse my teeth were pushed back. I had a hard acrylic mouth guard that the dentist inserted to try to get them to re-root & after a yr I lost it & the teeth started getting sensitive. I had 5 root canals. After talking to many people my father decided we needed to do all 6 front teeth & 6 lower ones so that my teeth weren’t different colours. We decided on dental works because they were the only 1’s that would do all top 6 at once then bottom at once so that they were all from same batch so they would all match. They told us they would do top crowns bottom veneers. A few months the veneers began chipping. I was getting upset & spoke w/a few hygienists where they informed me they should have never put veneers on the bottom. 3 yrs has past, they informed me when I talked w/them about them chipping that I would have to pay out of pocket for them to fix issues as they don’t come w/a warranty. Last month a whole sliver of my top front crown come off. Again they said I would have to pay. At this point I decided I would not pay them & go to a different practice. My appointment is n 3 weeks. Yesterday a whole veneer fell off. I contacted them and started explaining all the issues & that after only 3 years my teeth are falling apart. The dentist that did it was no longer with them. They have agreed to see me and see what we can do. I have a feeling they will only put the veneer back on for free. (It fell off in 1 piece which I still have) I am just wanting feed back on if this is normal and acceptable. Why others have said veneers should not go on the bottom. This has just been awful. We’ve spent $18,000, less than 4 yrs later they are falling apart.

Can Tooth Grinding Cause The Misalignment Of Teeth? If So, How Would I Fix This Problem?

Monday, October 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I am looking for an advice regarding teeth straightening. I have recently noticed that my teeth (front ones) are becoming slightly curved in appearance – they are not as straight (vertically) as they used to be.  I am not sure if this is related to the teeth grinding problem I am going through at the moment, and can I also ask whether teeth grinding can affect teeth alignment? Can you please offer any advice regarding this matter as I’d like to fix this problem in the future. Many thanks.

I Have Long Teeth, Can I Get Them Shortened?

Monday, April 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi doc. Well my question. Basically the best way I can describe it is that I have long length teeth. I want to reshape them as i am marrying soon. Is it possible to reshape them into normal length teeth via cosmetic surgery and moreover by changing the shape of teeth? If I could get this done then would my jaw shape remain same or it will affect as well. And what are the disadvantages of cosmetic surgery. Kindly elaborate. I really Need ur opinion. Please answer me as soon as possible. It would be a great favour for me.

Is it possible to have just 6 teeth prepared for veneers? Or is it standard practice to have more?

Wednesday, October 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi i am thinking of possibly getting veneers. It seems that porcelain are better, or Lumineers from what I have read. I was thinking of perhaps getting my top six teeth done and then whitening the rest of my teeth. My teeth are not in terrible shape but stained partly from smoking a little and i have been grinding a little also. Is this possible to do or is it more usual to do more including the bottom row. Any advice would be most welcome.
Kindest regards.

My false tooth keeps falling out, why do you think this is and what should I do about it?

Monday, August 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I am 17 years old and I have had a false tooth since late 2010, before that I had a cap on my tooth, but then I got an infection after a root canal and then my tooth snapped off in my sleep. I then got given a temporary tooth on a pallet and I had that for from October 2010 to July 2011, then I got given a tooth which glues onto the next one.

I had no problems at all to until 21st July when it fell out in my sleep, I then got it glued back in on the Friday and it fell out again in my sleep that night. I then went back the following week to get the same thing done and they sent my tooth off, so I had to stick with my tooth on a pallet, but then I had to get a mould of my tooth done so I could have one remade. I then had to wait two/three weeks to get it put back in, I didnt have any problems with this one and I had had it in for a month, but then it fell out in my sleep again, is it possibly that I grind my teeth in my sleep?
Because I am not in a proper dentist, I am in the NHS walk-in-centre, my dentist is only in Tuesdays and Fridays, so sometimes it is hard when my tooth falls out because they could be busy or they might not be open when it falls out, Im really confused on what to do.

What do you suggest that I do? Should I ask my dentist if I can have a screw in tooth? Or am I too young for one of them.. I am 18 years old at the end of the month and I dont really want to have a tooth on a pallet for it..
