How can I prevent two front teeth from chipping?

Q. Sorry for the email but I made this email when I was a kid. Anyways this is my question I’m 15 years old and my 2 front teeth recentely started chipping for no apprent reason, I drink water,milk and I eat hardly any junkfood. I think I grind my teeth at night maybe that’s why they’re breaking? Any suggestions on how to stop the 2 front teeth from chipping?,

A. Hi I would recommend that you visit your dental professional to assess the damage to your teeth, and to have the treatment required to repair the teeth. I would also recommend that you gain their opinion of the reason for the teeth fractures. Can dental bridge be refitted?

Q. Hi I have had a front single bridge crown since 2001 but unfortunately I must have ground my teeth whilst sleeping last night and the tooth became detached it is in perfect condition and so is the what appears to be metal filling material that bonded it to the next tooth. My obvious question can I have this refitted? My dentist did advise when she first fitted this that you never quite get the same strength on subsequent bonds? Thank You,

A. You could try to recement this bridge if your dentist thinks it’s worth while

Worried to loose tooth due to my grinding habit can I have veneers?

Q. Hello I grind my teeth a lot in my sleep and sometimes during the day when I am nervous or stressed. My dentist gave me a hard retainer which did not work. He then gave me a softer one which I chewed through. I now sleep with the hard one in and the soft one on top of that, and it helps but not completely. I am now starting to chew through them both. I have a lot of headaches, mainly tension ones, and I often wake up with tension in my neck and shoulders. I have also started to notice that my teeth have become much more sensitive and I am worrying that I am slowly grinding my teeth away and exposing nerves! I was wondering if I do (fingers crossed I don’t), would I be able to get veneers? Also would i get them free or would I pay? And if I did would they be made of something strong enough to put up with my grinding? Thanks!

A. Veneers would not be a good idea as you will break them. The hard splint is what I would recommend - it will need adjustments as your jaw settles into its correct position. Once this has happened the muscles should relax.

Need a home remedy and reason for my sensitive teeth.

Q. Hiya im 16 nearly 17 years old and i woke up this morning and one of my top teeth hurt when i toached it with my tounge or closed my mouth and put my teeth together. It also hurt when ate food or swished water round my mouth. Later on i realised it wasnt just one of my tteth but the whole left upper side of my teeth from the back to the canines. I brush my teeth twice a day but i have not been using mouthwash for about a month. I wear a retainer brace at night and have been doing so for about 2-3 years. The pain is a sort of tingling pain when i touch the teeth with tounge or teeth or swish water round my mouth or eat. I have used mouth wash but it hasnt seemed to help. I’m really scared i might lose my teeth, please can you tell me what i could do at home to help?

A. It is probably a case of night time grinding that is making your teeth sensitive – this often begins due to stress such as exams

My porcelain teeth has broken twice what could be the cause?

Q. I have a dental implant on my front tooth. the porcelain tooth has broken twice, once biting on an apple and lastly biting on a provita cracker. the metal part of the implant did not move and x-rays show it’s still totally inplace (I had bone graft taken from hip 1 year prior to implant placement) My question is could it be due to poor quality porcelain? what else can cause it to break in half widthwise twice? should I avoid biting on any hardish food in future? I do not grind my teeth at night. There is no stress pressure apparent from biting down against lower teeth. It’s a bit of a mistery to my dentist too!

A. It may be a material issue but it is likely be due to a bite issue – especially in lateral movement

Q. Would you be able to mend my teeth idf I am a grinder, I grind my teeth across my dentist told me. would it be possible to do my 2 front teeth with Cerec, I need a good smile this is ageing me terribly

A.
It should be possible to have your front teeth veneered or crowned to improve their appearance. However I would recommend that once you have had this procedure, you should wear a nightguard. This will help to protect the restorations, and prevent you from grinding them down.

Can veneers be fitted if one has gum disease?

Q. I suffer from severe teeth grinding and i also have bad gum disease although i am only 34 and have never had a filling. i went away travelling and have not seen a dentist for over 5 years. i would like to know if i am treatable and what my options are for a smile makeover as my teeth are now yellowing, there is some movement and the gums are tender sometimes, I have started to become very self conscious and upset about it. Can veneers be fitted if someone has gum disease, what costs am i looking at or do you think i need false teeth?

Q. My teeth have become shorter by youthful grinding !!!can you offer a solution ?

A. Normally veneers or crowns are the only option in these cases however very good aesthetic results can be acheived.

I need to fix the shaky front tooth

Q. I seem to have a habbit of pushing my front teeth with my tongue and then pushing them back again and now, i find myself doing it all day without realizing it and now i think one of my front teeth are shaky, it seems to move a bit more now, out of place when i push it and instead of stopping, i do it alot more now to see if it really is shaky or not. im terrified as im only 21. what can i do if they fall out? i also grind my back teeth in my sleep and during the day which is a new thing during the day. what are dental implants? are they screw ins? if my teeth come out could i get them on nhs? in the morning i feel as though if i just push my teeth theyl pop out so i try to avoid doing that 1st thing in the morning. im terrified on dental jags so cant go to dentist, i would go if i could get put to sleep tho, please help

A. Start by forcing yourself to visit 3 different practices that seem friendly to anxious patients. You can be adamant that you only want an opinion not treatment. ( check prices for assesment before you go )
One of them will feel better and more in tune with you. Then start with some simple treatment to boost your confidence.

I hv receeding gums around my teeth Plz help

Q. Pls help im very worried, just got back from my nhs dentist my gums have started to pull away from some teeth, my dentist said this is due to my age, but im only 27, in the past i did brush to hard, my biggist mistake, i have booked an apoinment at red sky dental spar this is a cosmetic dentist, could they help me to retore my gums around some teeth that have reseeded thanks

Hi msny thanks for your enquiry, firstly if your gums have receeded around some teeth this can be caused by a number of factors: hard brushing, grinding teeth, stress, gum disease, poor oral hygiene, hereditary. My advice would be to seek a consultation with a periodontist who is more qualified to discuss your recession and also give you some predictable solutions. Red Sky Dental are a good cosmetic practice however have no speciality in periodontics.
