I Suffer Badly From Toothache. My Dentist Thinks It’s Tooth Sensitivity. Should I Get A Second Opinion?

Tuesday, October 21st, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I went to dentist today due to suffering badly from toothache! I was told I grind my teeth in my sleep as my front teeth are very worn! He X-rayed and sent me away with sensitive toothpaste as he is sure it’s sensitivity! However tonight I am in complete agony is this normally for sensitive teeth? I have taken painkillers but they haven’t helped! I don’t know whether a second opinion might be useful although I have never had any concerns about my dentist before. Thank you for your time.

Dear Andrew, I Have Noticed Some Enamel Loss Recently. Is There Any Way To Replace The Enamel I’ve Lost?

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014
Q.

Dear Andrew,

My teeth are in generally good health and I do not suffer from any sort of pain. However over the last few months I have noticed that my two upper right sided incisors have had some enamel loss, which has probably happened over time and therefore they are now shorter than my left sided incisors which looks quite odd. Is there any way to replace, naturally or artificially, the enamel which has been lost from a cosmetic point of view? Thank you, I hope you can help me with my enquiry.

What can I do about my teeth grinding?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011
Q.

I grind my teeth at night and have for about 25 years. Normally, I wear a mouth guard. I also have migraine headaches and other types of headaches. I think that there is an association between my grinding, ear issues, and neck pain. Is there any way to stop the grinding? Most of the night guards I have had recently, last few years, have not been helpful. They do not take the inclusion into consideration. My teeth have vertical lines in them from the grinding and my gums have recessed (I think there are other reasons for this, but hygeine is not one of them, FYI). What suggestions do you have for the grinding and for a mouth guard that is not expensive but works? Do the vertical lines in my teeth make it difficult for me to not have my teeth whitened adequately? (a dentist recently mentioned this and it did not sound realistic to me). Thank you!

Can you suggest how to stop teeth clenching?

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011
Q.

I have a problem with clenching my teeth. This has caused problems with my jaws. I wear a mouth guard at night, but I also find myself clenching during the day. I often have severe headaches which I attribute partially to the clenching. Any suggestion to keep me from doing so. Also, I believe my lower canine teeth are being pushed back.

If I have a pocket in my gum is there anything I can do to prevent it getting worse or stop my teeth from falling out?

Thursday, December 9th, 2010
Q.

hi doctor,i have been asking several people and still haven’t got any clear answers.i am hoping you can help.my two front teeth are slightly loose and when i went to see my dentists she said i had a tiny pocket but didn’t do anything else.i have to wear a mouth guard at night as i grind my teeth but was wondering what,if anything,i can do to prevent them from loosening anymore and falling out.i really don’t want to lose them.i have read up in case i do lose them about having a bridge, but i was wondering if i could have it as the two teeth next to the front ones are healthy but one of my fangs(as i call them)on my right side is slightly clicking.any advise would help,i thought i might add that i have started using corsodyl toothpaste and mouthwash as my dentist did tell me to use them, but im not sure what they would do to help.could you explain what they do if anything aswell.many thanks

My dental bridges have fallen out twice now and my dentist has said this is because I grind my teeth, what can I do about this?

Saturday, December 4th, 2010
Q.

I HAVE TWO PERMANENT FIXED DENTAL BRIDGES.

THE LOWER LEFT BRIDGER CONSIST OF A TOTAL OF 4 AND THE LOWER RIGHT IS

CANTILEVER BRIDGE FOR A TOTAL OF 3.

THE LOWER LEFT HAS COME OUT ONCE AND THE LOWER RIGHT TWICE.

THE FIRST TIME THAT LOWER RIGHT CAME OUT MY DENTIS CEMENTED THE CANTILEVER BRIDGE WITH RELY- X3M CEMENT. HOWEVER, THE BRIDGE CAME OUT AGAIN. I GOING TO SEE MY DENTIS ON MONDAY.

I SPOKE TO MY DENTIS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND SHE CLAIM THAT THE REASON FOR THIS IS THAT I AM GRINDING MY TEETH. I DO NOT BELIEVED I DO BECAUSE MY WIFE SAID THAT I SLEEP WITH MY MOUTH OPEN.

I HAVE TRIED TO WEAR A DENTAL GUARD AT NIGHT HOW EVER I HAVE BREATHING PROBLEMS WHEN I WEAR THE DEVICE.

I HAVE RETENTION CYST IN THE LEFT MAXILLARY MY EAR NOSE DR RECOMMENDATION WAS TO TAKE CLARITIN AND TO SPRAY MY SINUS.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATION REGARDING MY PROBLEM.

REGARDS.
