What Should I Do About My Gingivitis?

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have severe gingivitis and it’s extremely painful. It flares up at least once a month, and I now have loose teeth but my dentist refuses to take my teeth out. I’ve had composite fillings along the gum line and the nerves were being affected. I keep my mouth and gums as clean as I can, gently brushing approximately five times a day and using Corsodyl mouthwash. My teeth are also crooked and stained, and the pain in my whole face is becoming unbearable, it is affecting my life in a big way. What can I do? Thank you.

Good Afternoon. Do You Have Any Particular Toothpaste Recommendations For Gingivitis?

Thursday, October 31st, 2013
Q.

Good afternoon. Which toothpaste do you recommend to be best for hygiene and freshness?
Would you recommend an antibiotic for gingivitis?
Shall I ask my GP to prescribe me a particular product?
I am considering teeth whitening.
My only concerns before I make an appointment are:
How long will it last?
Do I have to purchase expensive products to maintain it?

Sorry, I am just trying to decide if it’s worth it.

Kind Regards.

My Gums Started Bleeding Recently, I Want To Know How Long It Takes Each Stage Of Gum Disease To Take Hold?

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hello, Dr Moore. About a month ago now, I noticed that my gums began bleeding after brushing. This kept happening for around a week or so. I visited my dentist and he gave me antibiotics. I will see him in four weeks from now.

I have also now started using the recommended mouthwash. My question is how long does it take to go from minor gingivitis to periodontal disease? Approx how long would it take to get to that stage if unchecked?

P.s if you are at periodontitis stage, can this alter your face?

What are the tell tell signs that distinguish each stage? Thank you in advance for your consideration.

I’m Pretty Sure I May Have Gingivitis, As Whenever I Brush My Gums Tend To Bleed, What Mouthwash Can I Buy To Fix This?

Friday, September 27th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, I’m worried because I’m pretty sure that I might have gingivitis. My gums are always slightly bleeding and I can NEVER brush my teeth without seeing “pink” in the sink and to make matters worse, what used to be a tiny gap has gotten bigger and one tooth seems to be growing outward. What is your advice on this? Who can seriously afford braces in this economy and is there any Drug store medicine besides mouthwash that would rid me of the bleeding gums once and for all? Please doctor, help me.

The Gaps In My Teeth Are Getting Me Down, What Can I Do?

Thursday, August 22nd, 2013
Q.

Hi, I’ve recently suffered with gum disease and I’ve been to my dentist to get it sorted out, and she said my bone tissue was OK. After cleaning and scraping I had some antibiotic chips placed under my gums, they are much better now and the swelling has all gone down, but it has left small gaps in all the front of my teeth. I’m not liking how it looks, is there anything I can do to rectify this? as it’s just depressing me the way it looks. I’ve always been a pretty confident person, and now I don’t want to go out and talk to people as I’m very paranoid about how it looks, I did smoke for 25 years but I have now stopped for a year, I have heard about bonding and porcelain teeth but you will know better than me, could you please advise me? Thank you very much.

My Gums Are Bleeding Due To Gingivitis, Can I Be Cured?

Monday, March 11th, 2013
Q.

Hi Doctor.
Can gingivitis be permanently cured ? I have experience bleeding gums for a couple of
months now and what worries me is sometimes I feel my gums are fine and after couple of days I experience that my gums bleeding again. If I have got gingivitis then I am a bit annoyed and confused to be honest with you. I say this because of my oral hygiene routine, like I am always super aware of whether my teeth are clean and if I have bacteria causing bad breath etc. It seems unfair.  Can these symptoms happen if I am having gingivitis ? I do brush / floss / mouth wash every day and how can it leads to detal conditons ? Can there be othre reasons to get bleeding gums ?
If teeth are cleasned too often can it lead to more sensivity ?
Best Regards.

How Can I fix My Teeth Without Effecting My Speech And Appearance On The Way

Friday, January 25th, 2013
Q.

I currently have a bridge over a front missing tooth, anchored on both sides. The remaining front tooth that is an anchor has a root fill, this was done some 20 years ago. I have some gingivitus around the gum line of this tooth and now have discomfort on the very top edge of the bridged tooth up against the gum line. The bridge is very firm, but I feel discomfort when pressure is put on the tooth. I have been given Amoxicillin which has not eased the problem. I have had an Xray and the root canal is still good with no absess or problems showing on the xray but there is a metal plate on the back of the bridge that covers anything that may be going on with the tooth itself. I am paranoid about them doing anything with the bridge in case I end up loosing the front anchoring tooth. The dentist has suggested a course of flagyl next stept. I do lots of lectures and am very self concious about my speech and my appearance – what should I do not please?

How much will braces cost me to have?

Wednesday, October 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi I went to a dentist yesterday after not going since I was 16, I am now 22. I was told I had great teeth and they are all perfectly straight too except one canine because my baby tooth hasn’t come out it has slightly grown to the left not much but the dentist suggested I go to the orthodontist and get a brace to pull it down because I definitely don’t want and implant, he said it would be a shame as there’s nothing wrong with my teeth its just this one tooth, I do have to see the hygienist twice as he said I have early stages of gingivitis but after that treatment I wanted to book in to get the brace done but I was wondering now much will it cost with me being a student? I know the NHS pays so much for me but unsure how much they will pay. Also how long will it take for my tooth to come down? thank you in advance.

I have had veneers for 4 years but am now suffering from gingivitis, what can I do?

Friday, November 4th, 2011
Q.

i had veneers placed on my top 8 teeth almost 4 years ago as a cosmetic solution to missing teeth and gaps. I did not need any veneers on my lower teeth as only my upper teeth were visible when i smiled. Now, less than 4 years on, when i smile you can see my lower teeth which means i no longer have that elusive hollywood smile, and i am experiencing gingival problems only on the area where my veneers have been placed so that my gums are visible on top and in between my veneers. My dentist says i need to have my veneers removed and only if advised after a suitable period of time can they be replaced. But what does this mean? I know a lot of tooth structure was removed in order for me to have veneers, i don’t want to have my veneers removed as i have hardly any teeth remaining underneath. and if it is unadvisable to have my veneers replaced does this mean i will forever have no teeth? Please help as i’m losing my mind here over this!
