Q. i have got to go under sedation and worried about it, how could i get out of this phobia of being sedated its sounds worrying knowing that ill still be awake during this.
A. Sedation is an excellent and safe technique for nervous patients, although you’re still ‘awake’ you wpn’t be aware of what is going on around you. Perhaps you should ask your dentist for some more advice regarding the procedure.

Q. Hello, I have been to the dentist today to have a filling and my dentist gave me 1 needle and started drilling straight away, while he was doing this the pain was unbearable he then gave me 2 more needles and tryed again the pain was still agony and he said i waas lying even though i was shaking and crying. i am not terrified of going again but i have to go 4 more times for 4 more fillings. i was wondering could i be put under general anastetic so they could do everything that needed doing in one go as i dont think i could possible go back and be awake for another filling im just to scared!! please help me!!
A. hi many thanks for your email, obviously this experiance has shattered your confidence with the dentist. my advice would be to seek a dentist that maybe does treatment under IV sedation which is much safer than general, and can be done in a dental practice setting. the sedation will really make you less anxious and willing to accept treatment.

Q. hi i need a lot of dental work. im 21 and terrified. can you be put asleep in your local nhs dentist?
A.
You cannot go under GA in any general dental practice you would need to be referred to the hospital by your general dentist. Some dental practices however so offer sedation.

Q. A.
It sounds as though you do need your tooth removed- please discuss your anxiety with your dentist as the problem of removing the tooth will only increase the more the decay is allowed to grow

Q. hello, back in october last year i had 8 teeth removed,2 months later i had a dental absess that ingulfed my face. i had to have surgery and more teeth removed as they plugged the absess. in that time i had the inside of my mouth cut open in 2 places with a scalpul and an epidural needle plunged into my face. as a result of this i have had a nervous breakdown and think about my mouth 24 hours a day. i have only 7 teeth on the top set left, 2 have extreme long tooth and 2 are crowns, the bottom i have 9 teeth all my fronts mainly and one side which i use to eat. they need a very deep clean.now since all this has happened i have tried to go to the dentist but i have huge panick attacks and vomit my nerves are shot, i even tried to go via sedation but even the though of needles etc coming near me sends me into tears and i cant breath. as i cant seem to deal with this would i be able to have my teeth taken out under general at the hospital, and if so how would i go about doing this. would be grateful for any advice.
A. You need to try and get your dentist to refer you to hospital where they should be able to manage your extreme dental and needle phobia

Q. I have always had a potruding lower jaw & due to being terrified of dentist since a child had neglected my teeth resulting in 4rs ago have the few teeth I had left being extracted & full dentures fitted, however my jaw is now potruding even more & making my profile very ugly I also need new dentures as my present ones are loose now, is there anything that can be done for me ?
A. Dentures will not correct you jaw position- but can help with the aesthetics of you smile and fill your face out- if it needs to be. there are options- but are very drastic measures. Orthodontics can work- aswell as surgery, but this is not something to go into lightly- and also can be a costly affair.
If you need new dentures, then I would see your dentist and have a new set constructed to your liking. With a new smile, half the battle is won. Hope you get it sorted.

Q. Hi I was hoping you could give me an idea of what the best way of sorting out my smile would be and maybe a rough idea of how much it would cost. When i was younger my third tooth i think its called the canine grew twisted and closer to the front than it should have because of this my second tooth never grew so now i have one tooth in the middle of where two teeth should be with gaps on both sides. i don’t mind if my rogue tooth needed to be removed for the best results. But i would like to be able to smile properly as quickly and cheaply as possible as it is really beginning to get me down. Thank you in advance for your help & advice I look forward to hearing from you.
A.
Check out some dentists in your area that offer a free initial consultation, You should be able to get some rough prices for veneers, bridges, cosmetic bonding, or orthodontics (braces ) then balance the cost with the speed and the “smile” result.
Cheap & fast but ? result in your case would be cosmetic bonding.

Q. I am looking at getting teeth implants (most of my teeth are capped, filled or missing). I am nervous when visiting a dentist (which I havent for about 8years) If I get implants is this done under local/general anesthetic? Also can you recommend a good Dental Insurance Plan.
A. With the appropriate dentist you should be able to have dental implants under local anaesthetic or with IV sedation which is a better option than general anaesthetic as you do not fully lose consciousness.
I think you will find that any dental insurance company will not cover implant costs for pre-existing conditions but it may be worth a try

Q. can you be put under general anesthetic to have dental implants?
A. It is possible to have a general anaesthetic for the placement of implants. However the operation is performed very gently and usually requires only heavy sedation even for the very nervous patient. With this you feel very happy and do not recall very much of what actually happened. Sedation is also far safer than a general anaesthetic.
