Q. the tooth next to my upper front tooth has over the years pushed right forward. My dentist says that if the tooth was taken out then the gap would be to narrow and any replacement would not look natural. is there a treatment to cure my problem. Thanks
A. Probably orthodontics might be a route to take.

Q. Hey Dr. Solanki I have two big buck teeth that really bother me they are way big and have a gap in the middle but the rest of my teeth are pretty much straight just those two and my teeth also arent the whitest what would you recommend to fix my buck teeth and whiten my teeth?
A. hi many thanks for your email, the two options to fix your buck teeth are braces or veneers, the braces are more conservative but the treatment may take longer, the veneers are a much quicker fix but hav the draw back of the teeth needing to be filed down and also the veneers will need replacing every 10-15 years. the whitening treatments i would recommend is zoom2 whitening or enlighten.

Q. Hi. Many thanks in advance for taking time out to read, and hopefully answer my question. Over 20 years ago I had a dental brace, but for the last few years, my teeth have started to move. It appears that because of the gaps in my teeth I have developed a “rasp or lisp” in my speech, which is very distinctive. My question is this. I realise and accept to have a dental brace will cost me money. I am prepared to pay this. However, in view of the fact the gaps in my teeth are causing me to speak with a lisp/rasp, could the gaps in my teeth (one of which must be close to 1cm) be repaired under the NHS, or if not, would it cost of a dental brace have to be funded soley by myself? I am intent on having a brace, and this question is the first step in progressing. Many thanks
A. Thanks for your message, there are very few, if any, circumstances in which the NHS will subsidise orthodontic (teeth straightening) treatment for adults. As a result of this, I feel that you will be looking at private treatment. The prices for orthodontic treatment will vary between practices and between different systems, however I can tell you that at my practice, our prices currently start from £999. I hope this is helpful and encourage you to contact me again if you require any further assistance.
Kindest Regards

Q. Hi dr rob…. I am now 27 and had a number of removable braces from the age of 14-16 than a fixed brace from 16 till I was nearly 19. I was really happy with the results, but shortly after having this removed my bottom teeth all crossed over again. I did visit my orthodontist about this but told ne at the time all they could do would be to file each tooth down then put a fixed brace on again. I was concerned about the health of my teeth filing them so did not go ahead. Since I have remained unhappy with my teeth but thought there was nothing that could be done, until I heard recently about invisable braces. I would like to look into this but feel that as the job wasn’t done properly in the first place that to pay for this now would be unfair. My top teeth have now also moved since I have a wisdom tooth coming through, and now I am feeling unhappy with these also. I was also told I would never get any wisdom teeth!! What would be your suggestion for how I go treatment from here?? Kind regards
A.
My first impression is that you are unlikely to get funding for invisible braces. Also all braces need space to move teeth around and so even Clearstep or Invisalign may need “interproximal stripping” ( removing enamel between teeth) to create space. After treatment you will need to wear lifetime retainers.
Hope this helps

Q. I was born without incisor teeth but the eye teeth grew in where the incisors should be. On the left side there is no gap for an incisor to go and on the right side, the gap is very small. My incisor teeth are right next to my front teeth. How do I get these teeth when there is no room in my mouth? what are my options?
A. You need to have a consultation the options would either be closing the residual spaces or opening the spaces and then adding 2 new teeth.

not have invisible braces on the nhs you would have to pay for them, you could see an nhs orthodontist to have a consultation but you may not be eligible for treatment.

Q. hi, i suffered with bulimia for 5 years and have not made myself sick for almost 4 years now, as a result i have now got gum diesese and have gaps inbetween my teeth, i also have clear patches on my 2 front top teeth and have a large white patch which my parents were told was because i had too much calcium as a child, im 28 and am now very insecure about my teeth and would like to know whats the best option for me?
A. You would need to consult a dentist for a full check up and x-rays so that they can make sure your teeth are healthy. From there you can book in with a cosmetic dentist to see what can be done aesthetically.

Q. Hi, I am 53 and had conventional orthodontic treatment to straighten my front teeth as a teenager. In recent years, my front teeth have started to move forwards and have gaps. I initially looked into orthodontic treatment but was told that it was unlikely to be successful due to ‘getting long in the tooth’. Is there anything by way of cosmetic dentistry that could done?
A. Im sure orthodontics could improve your teeth aesthetically. But it depends what you are looking to acheive. If you simply want to align them then orthodontics is the way forward. If you would like to change the shape, colour and size of your teeth then Veneers may be what you are looking for.
you are very welcome to book with either myself for a cosmetic consultation, or with my collegue Dr Darsh Patel for an orthodontic consultation at my clinic, Umbrella. Please visit www.umbrellasmiles.com for more info.

Q. Hi there Justin, i could really use some good advice. I am hoping you can help me, my dilema is this…….. a good few years ago my dad who is a dentist put in 3 crowns on my incisors and my left lateral incisor and then a gap appeared between my 2 front teeth. I am a proffesional singer and my smile is everything to me so i was livid ! so i went to see a cosmetic surgeon near by and i have paid out a hell of alot of money to have my top 10 teeth done properly. This was september last year and i still have yet another wax up in !!! i have been 5 times to visit the lab to go over shape and size and there every time i take photots of teeth i like the look of and go over and over the shape but they cant seem to get it ? I am starting to get phobic of going back and having yet more injections and more wax up smashed out of my mouth its getting very frustrating and now one of the laterals is getting very tender and looks like a root canal might be in order. anyway the look i am going for is similer to katie prices l.a.a smile but my mouth is alot smaller and i have a small arch apparently ? so putting teeth the same size as hers just makes me look like a horse so i need get this sorted as its driving me crackers. My dentist seems insistent on using the same technition but said if all else fails he will go to the da vinci labs. I am thinking of saying its gone on long enough and to go to da vinci. what do you think ? any advice would be valuble to me. kind regards.
A. I would say that that is a good idea if the current lab you are using are not giving you the result you are looking for. The ceramist in my opinion, is just as important as the dentist in the part of a smile makeover. It is critical they can acheive the results each patient wants, as no two cases are the same.

Q. Hiya, I’m 14 and have just been advised to get braces
. I have a huge overbite due to sucking my thumb at an early age and I really hate it. I’m really interested in getting my teeth straightened, have deneers and having my teeth whitened. Will I be able to get this treatment at my age and how much will it cost? Thanks.
A. At your age you can have braces on the NHS at no cost, however this does depends on your case but it sounds like you may be a candidate.
Veneers are not recommended at your age. I think you will find that once your teeth are straightened you will not need veneers. If you would like to whiten your teeth i advise you wait till you are 18.

Q. Hi, i’ve got a number of large gaps on the front bottom row of teeth. What can be done to prevent the teeth from moving? Will the effects be permanent? Can these gaps be replaced with anything?
A. It depends how big the gaps are, you may need orthodontic treatment or implants to fill the gaps, you need to have a cosmetic consultation to decide which are the best options.

Q. I’m 15 years old, and have a gap between my two front teeth. Lots of my friends have recieved braces, but I was never offered, and I heard something about once your 16, you have to pay for them. I wondered what my options – besides braces – were for closing the gap, within a resonable price range.
A. If you have enough functional justification for NHS braces its free till 18 or 19 if your in full time education.
Simple ways to close gaps at 15 are bonding tooth coloured filling ( cosmetic bonding ) to do a Diastema closure.
Once your gum shape stabilises ( aound 18-21yrs old ) Veneers are a googd option for diastema / gapclosure.
if you pay private fees expecty around £100 per tooth, but as the gap is usually closed from both sides £200 per gap. AN NHS dentist might do a simplified procedure for free.

Q. Hi, I had braces about 5 years ago and have recently started to notice some movement. A small gap (0.5mm- 1mm) has developed between the front upper two teeth. All other teeth are fine. Could this gap be closed and then maintained by getting a retainer made? i have heard a spring retainer can be used without the need for fixed braces? what would the cost be for this? Many thanks
A. You can have a retainer made that will close this gap.

Q. I’m asking on behalf of a friend how much he could expect to pay for bridges to fill in two gaps at the front of his teeth. the two top teeth either side of the main two front ones are only baby teeth and he has kept them in to prevent gaps after braces, but they are naturally a lot shorter and hinder his smile aswell as not being as stable as an adult tooth
A. hi many thanks for your email, there are many types of bridges which could be used to close the gaps once the baby teeth come out. the average cost would range from £500 – £1000 per bridge. Dental implants could also be an option to replace the missing teeth these would start of £2000 per tooth. hope this is helpful.

Q. Dear Dr. Moore, ten years ago I had RCT done for two of my teeth (left upper – 10, 11, i think) they were crowned in nice tooth colored crowns (matched my teeth color exactly)…now there was a small gap that appeared in between one of these crowns and another natural tooth so food impaction resulted , i needed a gum cleaning last week. Now doctor says he has to replace the crown as the space has to be closed. He also suggested gingivoplasty before the new crown is placed. I am also concerned about the new crown not being of the same color as my tooth. Can you please advise ?
A. If the dentsit has a record of the colour of the old crown then matching should be easy. If not most dentists can match the shade or send you to the lab technician for him to map the colour of the tooth.

Q. Dear Dr Glaiser Six years ago I wore braces to separate out two front teeth that were overlapping. This worked (up to a point) but now you can fly a Zeppelin between my lower and upper teeth. Is there any way this could be corrected? Thank you
A. Dear ,
I recommend you consult with an orthodontist to see if another type of brace can be worn to correct this for you.
I can recommend Dr Darsh Patel-www.umbrellasmiles.com

Q. Hi Justin I have just had emergency nhs dental treatment after breaking my insisor tooth which had to be extracted. The site was immediately alongside a previous extraction of an insisor near to the front right side of my mouth. I now have a sizeable gap which is seriously affecting my confidence as I now feel unable to smile properly and am having considerable trouble speaking properly as my tongue is protruding through the gap when i speak causing to lisp. I am on the nhs waiting list but don’t feel that i can wait forever to get this problem sorted. Please can you tell what my options are and approximate costs of getting the gap closed at a private dentist. I live in Pembrokeshire but would be prepared to travel if necessary. Thank you very much
A. Hi
The cost of an implant would be in th area of £2500 per tooth.
You could wear a denture to fill the gap in the meantime which would be aviable to you on the NHS. I am unsure whether you are on a list for a NHS dentist in your area or whether you are waiting for the hospital.
A denture is available form a private dentist from £250.
Hope that helps.

Q. can i have my four front teeth pulled out and replaced with false ones because they are buck, gap and crooked
A. hi many thanks for your email. This does sound somewhat drastic. there are many ways to correct the position of the teeth, with the advent of six month smiles and inman aligner technology the movement of teeth can take as little as 8-10 weeks. my advice would seek the advice of a cosmetic dentist. what you are asking for is in my opinion a last resort. hope this is helpful.
