Is Fluoride Varnish a Good Treatment Option for Children?

Friday, May 13th, 2016
Q.

My son, who is 7, has white patches on his emerging adult teeth which are quite extensive and some of these teeth also seem a bit translucent. He would always swallow his toothpaste rather than spit it out. I am concerned about fluorosis. His dentist is keeping an eye on his teeth and one thing he mentioned was about using fluoride varnish. I’m concerned about treatment with fluoride varnish and can’t find out any info about its use for this particular kind of problem – do you know if this is a good treatment option?

How Should I Rectify My Fluoride Staining?

Friday, June 7th, 2013
Q.

When I was young, I had nice white teeth but as I grew older and my adult teeth came through it began to turn brown! I’ve always taken care of my teeth and I don’t know why they turned brown, but I went to the doctor’s so I could find out what was going on and the doctor advised me that my mum had taken antibiotics whilst she was pregnant with me. I currently have 2 veneers and 4 crowns at the top but my bottom teeth still remains brown. I was just wondering if there was anything that I can do to solve my brown teeth problem!!! Please help as it’s getting a little bit too frustrating!! Kind Regards.

Is Fluorosis Irreversible?

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013
Q.

My daughter of seven years has badly stained teeth from using too much fluoride toothpaste and probably swallowing it. I overbrushed her teeth not realising the negative effects this could have on young teeth. Her self-esteem is affected now and she’s embarassed to smile. Do you have any advice? She’s using a non-fluoride toothpaste now and drinking bottled water. She’s also allergic to dairy products and is taking a calcium supplement. Is the fluorosis irreversible?Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks and we look forward to your reply.
