Q. My front teeth are big and prutruding, i wore a brace when I was younger, but probably did not give it enough time. I have always been paraniod of my teeth, and now coming up to my wedding i dread the photos. How much on average would it cost to correct?

A. Hello, thanks for your question. There are lots of different types of braces for different degree’s of crowding and what you want to wear during the treatment. There are invisable braces such as Invisalign, fixed braces including 6 month smiles and removable braces such as the Inman aligner. Q. Hi, I have a quick question I hope you might be able to answer. One of my front teeth is slightly twisted and is particularly noticeable when you look at it from the side. It makes me self-conscious when I smile, although my other teeth are still in place and I would be happy to leave them where and how they are. I wore a fixed brace and then a removeable brace as a teenager and have recently had my top 2 wisdom teeth removed due to overcrowding (perhaps this may have caused the front tooth to twist?). I asked my dentist about possible treatments but he seemed reluctant to suggest anything as the tooth is healthy. I wouldn’t want to wear another fixed brace and ideally would want a quick, long term solution, preferably not too expensive. I was wondering what might be the best option? Thanks.

Thanks for your question, probably the quickest method to improve the appearnace and position of a tooth would be to place a veneer on the tooth. The dentist may be able to prepare the tooth, so that a veneer would sit in line with your other teeth, however depending on how much preperation is involved, it may require root treatment of the tooth as well. The other alternative would be a straightening system. I know that you are reluctant to wear fixed braces again, but you may be interested in the Inman aligner, which can acheive results in as little as six weeks, and is also one of the most cost effective straightening systems. I hope this will help you mae a decsion.

Q. Dear Mr Bohara, My top central incisors or the teeth shown when u smile closest to the nose. Have been pushed outwards to such a degree that, when i smile you cannot see many teeth and definitely not my top set of teeth. This is highly embarrassing for me, are there anyways i can push them back in??. I presume this was caused due to the fact that, i used to suck my thumb throughout my child hood. Causing my teeth to be pushed outwards. What can i use to push my teeth inwards? can i use removable retainers? rather than fixed braces??

Q. I’m thinking about getting a brace as my two front teeth are inverted, i beleive this was caused by my wisdom teeth putting pressure on them (I have since had all my wisdom teeth removed) I would like to know if a brace could fix them and make them straight, how much it will cost, and how long the procedure will take and what type of braces involved. Thanks for your questions, braces are used to straighten misaligned teeth, but I would recommend that you visit a dental professional to find out for certain if this is suitable for your particular case. Q. ok i 13 i have a gap in between my wide two front teeth and ppl say its fine and it well close and i have all my adult teeth and i have a missing adult tooth in the back and i say i need braces or a retaner but with do u think i should do?
A. Thanks for your questions, I suggest that you attend a dental practice to obtain a professional opinion on whether you would benefit from braces or not. Once a dentist has seen you, they will be able to refer you on to an Orthodontist, if necessary, where you will be able to receive treatment. I wish you well.

Q. I am 23. I had braces for 18 months when i was 17/18 on the NHS and my teeth were perfect. I was given a retainer that broke and because i didnt realise how imortant it was i didnt get it replaced. Since then my teeth are moving back to their original position – if I want them re-done or whatever is needed will I have to pay again? If so without knowing the full extent of the movement how much do you think this would be?
A. Thanks for your enquiry, unfortunately, you would now need to pay for any orthodontic treatment as this is very rarely available to adults on NHS. Although prices will vary between practices and for different straightening systems, I can tell you that the current costs at my practices start from £999. I hope this helps.

Q. Hi, i’m 18 and i had braces for 2 years when i was 13. since then i havent had any trouble until recently when my lateral incisor has felt slightly loose. this was one of the teeth which moved the most during my orthodontic treatment. in the past few weeks it has felt slightly painful in what im assuming is the root. i have noticed it has moving so i’ve had to wear my retainers every night nd they feel tight around this tooth whenever i put them in. is this normal? i have also read that these sort of symptoms can be related to sinus problems, is this likey? i did mention that my tooth felt loose to my dentist but he said it was about 0.5 on the scale of looseness and not to worry, did he miss something? generally my teeth are healthy and i have not noticed any abcesses.

Q. Good day Dr. Solanki. I had dental braces for 2 years and 6 months and I am quite satisfied with the result except for one thing. One of my front top tooth is kinda “pear shape”. That tooth was protruding in before the braces and when it was aligned after the appliance, there was a wee gap at the top part of that tooth near my gum that can be seen everytime I would widely smile or grin which looks so unappealing. My orthodontist said it was because of the shape of my teeth. Is there a remedy for this? I hope there is, after all the costs and pains of wearing the braces. I hope its all worth it.
A. Thanks for your questions, you may wish to consider having the tooth veneered. A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain which is made to fit over the front surface of the tooth and can be used to alter the shape. However an alternative, less expensive, and more conservative option may be to consider using a composite material to desguise the shape. I hope this helps.

A. Yes it can! You may have gum disease but you may just need a brace to move your teeth into a more stable position – teeth keep on growing if they are not in a stable position

Q. Hi, I had a brace as a child to correct two prominent front teeth. Which was done successfully, but over the years they have slowly returned to how they were. My question is would it be possible for these teeth to be replaced by implants, or is the only option the lengthy process of having another brace fitted?
A. The most likely option for you would be brace work – possibley invisalign that would be more socially acceptable

Q. I had braces for a year, and ive took it off, and started wearin retainers, but my doctor said that i have to wear the retainers for a life now, i want to know is there anything that i can do, because i dont want to wear them for a life?
A. I recommend lifetime reatiners to ensure the teeth don’t move back. You can have a fixed retainer placed behind the front 6 teeth and then only wear your other retainer at night.

Q. i am 29 and have just registered with a dentist after waiting for a few years,im interested in having a brace fitted as im starting to feel very wary of my teeth when i smile,Can it be done on nhs or will i have to go private? And at what cost?
A. Thanks for your questions, NHS Orthodontics treatment to adults is not usually available, however an enquiry to your local Primary Care Trust should be able to confirm this for you. There are many teeth straightening systems available privately, with some treatments taking as little as six weeks to acheive results and others which are virtually invisible. The costs for these treatments will vary between systems and practices, but I can tell you that straightening treatments at my practices start from £999. Many practices now have the facility to offer payment plans, such as interest free credit to help you spread the costs. I hope this helps.

Q. Hi, I had braces on my top teeth when I was 17. I’m now 30 and I’m very self conscious of my ‘goofy’ teeth. The braces did straighten my teeth but my top teeth have always stuck out over my bottom ones. When I close my back teeth I am able to slide my little finger between the gap. When I had braces they never addressed my crooked bottom teeth and so I never have elastic bands to help the alignment of my teeth/jaw. As an adult now I feel I was possibly mistreated. I’m incredibly self conscious of my smile and I find I’m beginning to hide my teeth and mouth when I speak and laugh. All of this infuriates my husband who insists its part of what makes me me but I hate it! Is there anything that could help?
A. Thanks for your questions, there are many teeth straightening systems available now, with some that can acheive results within six weeks. I would recommend that you attend an orthodontic or cosmetic dental practice for a consultation, at which they should be able to advise you of the systems which are avilable to suit your case, the approximate treatment time and the price. Many of these practices will offer a free inital consultation, so that you can obtain the necessary information without any financial commitment and often have interest free credit facility to help spread the cost. Q. At the age of 15 I had four teeth removed and was given a temporary brace to move my teeth, then a fixed brace on my lower teeth for 9 months and one on my top teeth for only 2 months. My teeth were never completely straight at the time I had the brace removed and I stated my worries to the orthodontist. He ignored my request to keep the braces on longer. When removing the braces he cut my gums severely and did not polish them afterwards. I was given a retainer to wear and was never invited to a check up. I have expressed my concerns to my NHS dentist as I have marks on my teeth from the braces and my top teeth sit slightly behind my two front teeth. I am 18 now and a student I would really like the perfect smile I thought I was getting. Is there any way I can be referred to get the treatment I should have got at the younger age? Thank you for your time.

Q. I was wondering i would be able to get vaneers or implants done on the nhs as my two front teeth at the bottom have formed a gap as all my bottom teeth used to be perfectly straight and no gaps until i became addicted to coca cola and i would like the replacements to look like my own instead of having dentures like old people have as i am only 30 years of age and as an adult would i be able to have a brace fitted to my top teeth on the nhs as i have got gaps between my teeth that i would like closed up.
A. Thanks for your questions, it may be possible to have veneers on the NHS if they are clinically necessary. However, if there is no clinical need for them, then it would be deemed as cosmetic, and therefore would not be available on the NHS. If this is the case, your dentist may be able to offer a bridge as an alternative to a denture. This would depend on the stability and health of the teeth on either side of the gap. In order to fit a bridge, you would have the teeth on either side of the gap prepared for crowns, and the laboratory would attach a false tooth to the two crowns. This three unit bridge would then be fitted. I hope this helps.

Q. I have had braces and yet i have a small gap between my two front teeth, my orthadontist said i should go and see my dentist for bonding or venners as there is nothing else she can do. i was just wondering which technique is better and longer lasting and if they are stain resistant. Also i may consider home teeth whitening kits, and was wondering if they the veneers or the bonding will whiten also. morevover can you please tell me the NHS prices fro these and if there is a significant reduction in prices if you are a university student.
A. Thanks for your enquiry, firstly these procedures would be classed as cosmetic, and so would probably not be available on the NHS. If you are considering having your teeth whitened, then I would encourage you to do this before you have any restorations placed on your teeth, as whitening only works on your natural tooth. The material which is then used would be matched to the whitened shade of your teeth. There are benefits to both tooth bonding and to veneers, as tooth bonding is a less invasive treatment however veneers would lead to a more aesthetically pleasing result in my opinion.
