I am 15 but all my teeth have fillings in, can I have dental implants?

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011
Q.

i have just turned 15 and allmost all my teeth have fillings in, i dont get how my teeth are so bad when i brush them 2times a day and i tend not to drink fizzy juices and sweets. i hate laughing and smiling because my mouth is almost silver with them. Is it possible for your teeth to be taken out and new ones put in? but not like false teeth that old people get, single ones? and how old do you need to be?

The white bonding on my teeth doesn’t match the colour of my teeth, what should I do?

Monday, February 21st, 2011
Q.

I recently had five of my back teeth on the bottom row of teeth from metal to white however the white does not really match the colour of my existing teeth and there are bits of black around the edges. I got this treatment through my dental practice and paid over £1000. My dentist has since left the practice and I requiree root treatment on one of the teeth that the filling got replaced but the colour again is not matching my existing tooth. This work was done by another dentist who joined the practice but I have not been able to establish a rapport with and I am really unhappy with the work I have had done.

What could be the cause of holes under my fillings?

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011
Q.

After a visit to the dentist i was told that i have holes under my fillings. Is this possible. The dentist thinks that the filling material is failing (the fillings have been in for about 7 to 8yrs). The dentist took some x rays and said we shall monitor the situation in 6 months. I have no pain. What is the cause of this?

Can my NHS dentist replace 8 amalgam fillings with composite/ceramic ones?

Friday, January 14th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes,

I have 8 amalgam fillings done 10 years ago.

In the last few months i have been thinking that these might cause bad breath as there is a tooth decay underneath. Can this be related to bad breath?

Apart from the above I have good healthy teeth and good dental hygiene and my NHS dentist doesn’t seem to think i need them replaced.

I would like to have them replaced with white composite fillings or ceramic for cosmetic reasons and for a possible relation to bad breath.

I suppose the tooth decay underneath will still be there but less visible.

I would greatly appreciate your advice.

many thanks

My NHS dentist never picked up on problems found by a dentist I visited in Australia – what do you suggest?

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
Q.

hi, I have just returned from visiting Australia. Whilst I was there I visited my parents dentist and he was horrified at the state of my teeth due to NHS care. I had been going every three months and 3 days before going to Australia. The UK dentist failed to find 4 fillings, one abcess which was so bad it needed extracting and the tooth next to it needed a huge filling and two loose front teeth which have now been bound! I am now terrified to go back to an NHS dentist and have a 10 year old daughter who they checked and found to have her lower teeth pressing on her upper gum. Anyway, I would like to have my teeth properly looked at to make sure that I do not have gum disease, to assess the loose teeth for possible implants and find out what else is wrong as the Australians ran out of time before we needed to return to the ‘front’. What would you suggest for me and my daughter. Does she need you or an orthodontist and how can I manage my teeth properly if the NHS is failing me so badly.

I had a filling done two weeks ago and now I am in pain when drinking cold water and eating hot food; why is this?

Thursday, January 6th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I had a filling done about 2 weeks ago, was only a small one so had it done without the injection. Now when i drink cold water or eat hot food it really hurts.

What could this mean or be?

Thanks

i keep getting infections and my dentist keeps prescribing antibiotics; should I get a second opinion?

Thursday, January 6th, 2011
Q.

I keep getting infections and my dentist just keeps giving me amoxicillin but the infection comes back a few weeks later each time. I have now had at least four infections and been given amoxicillin each time.

I also have pain under a tooth which he fitted a veneer on to recently and my bite doesn’t feel right because I can’t chew my food right down since he fitted fillings, but every time he looks in my mouth he just files a tiny bit down and it never gets fixed right as I still can’t chew my food right down into a liquid.

I have been getting treatment under sedation since march as I have a terrible phobia of choking and extremely sensitive teeth.

The dentist seems to think I don’t need any further fillings or root treatment but I keep getting these infections and pain in the tooth with the veneer on it – the last infection was particularly bad as the pain was in both my upper and lower gums on the right hand side of my mouth but I was just prescribed amoxicillin for it again which hasn’t really helped as I seem to have an ulcer on my lower gum now and it is very tender to touch.

Should I try changing dentist or persist with the same dentist? I’m still in pain with my teeth.
