Q. Hello Dr Moore Last Friday i when to see my dentist for what thought was the last appointment as in this appt the crown was to be fitted.The dentist found the crown was too long from was requested and spoke to the tech. who re-aasured that he had made as per instruction.Then the dentist thought the teeth had moved but i had temp.crown and i am healthy non-osteoporotic patient.then the crown was fitted with additional filler and now my teeth are not alignment and the inplant grinds with lower jaw teeth.i phoned the dentist who suggested i visit her again but i an very uncomfortable about going back as i have lost all confidence her abilities as she may do more damage and i need to resolve the poor fitting crown.Ihave had an inplant previously from another dentist with no such complications.Please could you advise me on what action should takeie should i return even though i feel she may do more harm and should i see another dentist?i look forward to your advice
A. Go back as she is the best person to sort this problem out another dentist may not understand the situation you can always change when the problem is sorted out

Q. I have pain in one of my back teeth which had an existing filling. My dentist took xrays and advised of a crack. He has now cut away half of the tooth and is intending to place a Prcelin cap on it in two weeks time costing £650. There is still a large crack running down the back of the tooth that is now visible. It it correct to place cap on this now? Thanks
A. They are trying to b ond the tooth together and prevent the crack spreading. If this works your tooth should be fine for many years

Q. hi i feel i need implants as many of my teeth are going rotten my dentist have done fillings but they have either cracked or broken so i fell it is a lost cause. I am only 24 i wont to get my teeth done more then any thing. Will they have to be paid for by each appointment or is there a payment scheme each month as i hear they are not cheap? Many thanks
A. Hello, You will need to budget around £1500-2000 per tooth. Payment plans are often available subject to status. At my clinic we offer 1-2 years credit to help pay for extensive treatment such as implants.

Q. Hi, i had a brace when i was about 13 for 10 months and had to have some teeth removed to make space for them to straighten out, well i am now 20 and during the last couple of years i have started to grind my teeth, they have become sensitive and look awful my two front teeth are the worse one is shorther then the other and 3 of my bottom front teeth have been ground down aswell so all my back teeth are fine but when i bite my front teeth dont meet, what is the best way to sort this and least expensive? Thankyou so much
A. hi many thanks for your email, the best least expensive way to sort this out is rebuild the front teeth using white filling material and then invest in a nightguard so if you do grind your teeth at night it will be the nightguard which is ground away and not your teeth.

Q. Hi. I read in ‘Guide to NHS dental Services’ that white fillings are provided by NHS(doesn’t specify front or back). I called a few practices to ask this and I was told that white fillings are available only for the front teeth. But my children had white fillings at the back and didn’t pay anything. So which is the truth?

Q. Hi, i have about 11 silver fillings i want to get removed and replaced with white, can you tell me roughly how much you thing this would cost and if its adviseable? The dentist i went to did not give me a choice of white or silver and im so depressed with my mouth like this as my teeth are perfect on the outside…. thanks

Thanks for your e-mail. The cost of replacing each amalgam filling for a white filling will vary between practices, I can only advise that at my practice the cost of white fillings starts from around £80. As you seem to be seriously considering this course of treatment, I would advise that you see a dental professional to assess whether this is adviseable as I would be unable to answer this question without a consultation. Q. Hi, I’ve had a molar tooth removed recently after it fractured from eating food. I took some photos with my camera to see if it was healing well and i noticed that at the base of the cavity it looked quite dark, almost silvery like my other fillings. Is it normal to be this colour?, could the dentist have just left the lower part of my tooth etc in my jaw? Can i send the photo to get your judgement? Thanks

Q. hello there, i have had some tingling (not like normal tooth pain like when i have needed a new filling) just really annoying in my top uppper large molar inside the tooth. it started a few nonths i went to my dentist he did a tapping test and could not find anything wrong. it ago lasted a month or so then went off for at least 5 months. now it has come back it does not hurt when i eat or is not particulary senseative. i have bee to the doctors and had anti biotics and a nose spray just incase it was a sinus infection she said. WHATS YOUR OPINION IT COULD BE I WOULD BE SO GRAEFUL FOR YOUR ADVISE. kind regds
A. I recommend you go back to your dentist and ask him to take an x-ray of this tooth and to check your bite.

Q. Hi there, I suffered from bulimia when I was 18 & 19, I’m now 36 and my 2 front teeth have several fillings caused by the bulimia. I’m happy with them at the moment, although the fillings did fall off and had to have them redone but my dentist has said that I should have crowns and that Lava crowns would be the best solution. He has said that I should have them on the front top 4 teeth. Is there a problem with me leaving it as I’m happy with the fillings and think that Lava means that I will have to have a lot of my real tooth filed down and think what is the point if it looks ok and isn’t really causing me too many problems.
A. If you are happy with the fillings you have, then the best option by far is to leave them as they are. If you want to change them in the future i dont see why you cant have them changed for fillings again or even veneers as these are both much less invasive than a crown.

Q. I was diagnosed with slight TMJ many years ago and it show up now and again with a lock jaw and difficulty when eating. I used to sleep with a guard on my upper teeth. Do you think it is worth having another guard made? Also do you think an old filling on the bottom molar teeth could be contributing to the lock jaw pain? I plan to be in London during the summer. Q. I had a white filling placed on one of my front teeth a few years back, I don’t think the dentist was comfortable with the bonding procedure, and since then the surface of that tooth is lumpy and uneven. Would it be possible to have a dentist “smooth” the tooth out by buffing or polishing it? Thank you.

Q. Hi Doc I have a chipped upper left single tooth which is not broken. I have protected it with dental cerment for now. I live in a caravan and move every 28 days. I am also constantly looking after my pet dog who requires 24 hour home care due to an illness. Is the dental cerment the best temparly thing to use until I get to a dentist. The chip is at the awkward side. It is important that I protect this tooth is that correct. Any advise please. Kind regards

Q. Looking for a temporary filling product in the UK? I’m looking for a “temporary filling” product like “Cavi fix” on sale in Chemist shops in the UK.? Just lost my filling and can’t afford to go and see a dentist…need something to block the hole so the nerve doesn’t start to play up in a couple of weeks time…. Just found Dr denti ” Tooth-Fil on line… but would like to know if its available in Chemists shops. thanks for any info. Plase remember that I’m asking this question because for the moment I CAN’T AFFORD to go and see a dentist, so please dont suggest that I do.

Q. I am a UNITED STATES 43 male, and just had checkup. I have reflux and have ground teeth into the denton. Kanines are level w/others. molars have very wide fillings. backs of front teeth have been acid washed to denton, i guess. told i need 14 crowns immediately. front upper 6 +canines+back molars. $12K. is there some insurance I can buy to offset this? or is it too late, since I already saw the DR. I am scheduled for this friday. Please respond ASAP. URGENT to know. what is your advice? do you think this is urgent/necessary??
A. If teeth have severe acid erosion the options are onlays or crowns depending on how much tooth is present. I am a British dentist and do not have knowledge of your insurance schemes

Q. The gums under my bottom teeth have turned black, could this problem be fixed? An I would also want my teeth whitend, what kind of price am I looking at for this to be done?

Q. Hi. I had SEVERAL fillings done about 1.5 months ago, and on occasion, those teeth will hurt, especially when I chew gum. It seems that the sensitivity to hot and cold has diminished considerably since I had the fillings done, but most times when I chew gum, those teeth hurt. The fillings are white, not silver. Is this normal?

this problem can occur several factors play a part the depth of the filling/closeness to the nerve.

as symptoms are improving over time -give it a bit longer or contact your dentist to check everything is ok as it may settle

Q. my mum forgot that a dentist appointment was scheduled for her it was ment from 11.30 to twelve and now it;s been moved to the 26th. i just don;t understand how she forgot i was there when she aranged the apppointment. you see mums mouth has a hole in one of her teeth and it needs to be fiiled as my mum has lost her filling. if my mum leaves it this song. what will happen ?
